The SF2 Hyper Fighting Thread

He beat me and my buddy up. I think he started off by beating me twice with Ryu before I won one (and in between each of our fights he was playing and beating my buddy so he started off something like 4 and 0) and then he switched to Zangief and beat me many, many times in a row. 10 times maybe? I finally beat his Zangief and then he switched to somebody else. After I beat his Zangief the one time he didn’t go back to him (definitely NOT because he was afraid to use Gief after my one measly win over Z) and from there on out I’d say we roughly traded wins. But I was trading wins with him when he wasn’t using his two best guys. It was a lot of fun, he’s definitely better than me. Part of you never wants to lose but at the same time, when I was thinking about it before he came over, I knew that if he was better than me that was probably the best thing as it would really make the game interesting.

I also learned some things. Some things I learned I could put into play right away and other things will take some practice.

Again, I’ll keep him anonymous and if he wants to show up and claim his glory that’s cool too.

Posting in this thread due to post-Christmas purchase. Got it for $150. It wasn’t working due to a “problem” with the remote board for video. Well, all it was, was a bad solder that joined 2 contacts. Once I scraped it off the thing worked perfectly. Just gotta get the correct control panel now. For right now I wired in an old PS3 fight stick with sanwas but the new panel should be on the way in a few weeks and I have iL joysticks and buttons on the way.

Unfortunately, there’s no one in my area that will play ANY street fighter with me let alone on this thing and I can’t drag it to Pittsburgh where they’ll all stomp me anyways. So I think I’ll just use it as training mode and try everything in the HF guide in the first post.

Damn. Hella nice for 150 bucks man. Nice one

Yeah man. Random craigslist browsing, I wanted to buy a game and found this from a limo company that went out of business. I figured it would be original SF2 or something but lucked out. If I’m not playing it, my mom’s fiancee and his son are on it and they don’t even play fighters, they just have fun hitting buttons so its a good investment either way. Just waiting for Lizardlick to ship my parts out and some money next week to get the correct control panel.

Chun is a cheating whore btw. And I’ve fallen victim to walk forward flashkicks. I’m getting the hang of the combo system and the dizzies but its still a hard game but I love it.

Random dizzies in this game are hilarious. SFIV players who thinks Gief’s headbutt does crazy stun should play HF. It’s a 1-hit dizzy like 80% of the time.

Here’s some hitboxes I made for HF Sagat btw:

I believe I used FBArr and the hitbox scripts courtesy of dammit, more info at http://code.google.com/p/mame-rr/wiki/Hitboxes

Hey guys been away along time and alots happened in the world of Hyperfighting since then…

First off found out about the New Zealand HF scene, these guys have the most active scene in the world outside of Gangzhou china.

They have Arcade cab tournies and a whole load of oldschool players who are active on supercade. This was thier latest tourney:

This was organised by DJ REMINISE:

The guys also post here on what is the NZ equivalant of SRK:

Thanks to my contact deadlydaem who supplied the tourney cabs and will be posting footage in future:

In the US, oldschool legend Mike Watson has opened his own arcade in the L.A area, it has a Hyper Fighting cab and an open challenge for anyone to go down and play him!

The arcade is called SuperDojo and can be followed on twitter here:
https://twitter.com/#!/SuperDojo

Also, I hooked up Jeff Scaeffer on Supercade today. Thats right a true old school US OG HF player is gona be online and will be travling to NZ to fight in thier next big tourney!!
He also made his way to SuperDojo tonight to play Mike!:

Very exciting times for the HF community in 2012!!

Great work dude.

FYI, the arcade is actually called Super Arcade, located in Walnut, CA.

2011 Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting NZ Nationals Grand Final - B-Man (Brett Mullally) vs. DCUTS101 (David Cowan)

it’s been awhile since I played last and I been playing alot of ST laitly, so I could be going crazy, but isn’t that running too fast? that doesn’t look like arcade HF to me.

but awesome to see a scene and awesome playing for sure!

yeah only one of the cabs is a proper board, the others are multi game (mame I think) based emu systems.

ohh cool glad I am not crazy  I imagine you guys have some beastly reflexes playing at that speed

EDIT: oh yeah crayfish, are you still playing on supercade? you probably don’t even remember me but we used to play now and then and I remember you had a fatal fury special thread that was pretty good and that too is one of my favorite games, drop me a pm if you ever wanna play either game again.

Ofc m8!

If you don’t mind me asking…this is the 3rd SF2 game released on the CPS1 correct? What changes were made from the 2nd version (which made the bosses playable) to HF?

3rd SF2 yeah, after WW and CE.
#1 change: Speed. Frameskipping is on for SF2HF, hence the “hyper” or “turbo”. CE was the original, slow speed.
#2: Balance changes. Plenty of moves tweaked, hitboxes, frame data etc. For example, CE Dictator was stupidly good, and in HF he’s bottom of the tier list, haha. Overall, HF is very well balanced though.
#3: New moves. For example, Ryu/Ken’s mid-air Hurricane kick.

I think that pretty much covers it.

Here’s some work I’ve been doing on the Vega HF wiki: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Vega_(HF) , I think the only glaringly obvious omissions are more vs char strats. I also haven’t put in any jumping frame data/hitboxes, but that’s because I haven’t really worked out a good way to determine it yet. If anyone notices anything wrong/missing or has requests, just give me a yell. I can certainly tell you I learnt a few things gathering this data

I’m planning on expanding out to the rest of the cast, and filling in some general HF info as well. It’s been pretty empty thus far.

Also, since the (incredibly destructive and amoral) takedown of megaupload, even our poor 90s era HF strategy text file has been removed. I’ve taken the liberty of reuploading it to
http://cdn.anonfiles.com/1334973523566.txt

HOLY SHI… I didnt realise there was anything in place like this for HF. Dang, nice work!

I’ll re-edit the first post soon and add the txt file back in.

Yeah, will be good to remove the dependency on external sites for the hitboxes, I thought…

@fluxcore- Thanks for the info. Did some characters get certain combos in HF, like Dictator’s Jump MP, MP?

Juggles were added in ST, so none of that stuff is in HF. There is ryu/ken j.HP xx air tatsu though, that’s one similar combo I can think of that was new in HF.
