Yes, it’s possible. Use HF Somersault for maximum style points (beware if you only get the 1st hit on Somersault though! Only use for flash, not to win).
Ok guys, starting today, Ive started uploading the Chinese HF tournament footage from 2008 I mentioned a while back. The Chinese communities in Shanghai and Gangzhou are the main HF scenes in the world, with possibly the best players too. Some of the Gangzhou players are probably some of the same people you have seen in the 2003 HF tourney matches Ive had up on my channel for a long time. HF exists as a side community to the huge CE scene there, with probably alot of overlap of players, hence the high standard of play.
This is the 2nd tourney between Shanghai and Gangzhou, I also have the first which I’ll be uploading later.
Massive thanks go to Korea SF2CE & friend Ying from Singapore (also one of asia’s top HF players) for providing me with this footage.

I liked the last one (#10) the best. It seems the second player intentionally cornered himself for many of the rounds and felt comfortable there, but in the final fight, he made a complete reversal and managed like three tick throws in a row as a result. Very nice! Also some good low tier action from Honda, Vega and Dhalsim players.
IT’s been a long time since I played this. Does Decoy, Gummy, and all of those play? who are the best in HYper Fighting in 2d? I really wanna get some matches one of these days.
So I’m pretty new to xbox live, and just learned that HF was re-released for live a couple of years ago. Does anyone still play this game? I want to download it, but only if there’s comp on XBL.
There were some pretty bad Ryus early on (Ryu jumping at Honda = WtF; Ryu losing to Honda = Double WTF), but it gets better later on. That is, if you can stand 872087120387123 Ryus.
I am pretty sure the player suffers from a particular problem that affects some fighting game players: he can not control distance when playing on one of the sides of the screen. In this case, he can not measure distance so as to mount an offense or counter while on the 2P side. Once the players switch sides, tatsus through projectiles, combos and ticks appear all of a sudden. Either that or he knew the opponent makes worse decisions on the 2P side, but my intuition tells me this is unlikely.
I’d have to watch the match again to double-check, but I find it odd that there would be such a player who reaches to that high a level yet is still affected by something as basic as side though.
I’d like to point out when talking about differences between CE and HF, Yoga book Hyper references will be irrelevant cause (US/World) version is different compared to Japanese CE(or Dash).
For example someone asked in this thread if Sagat’s Strong/Fierce TU knockdowns, yes in the Japanese version it does the US/World version it doesn’t, same story with Balrog’s rush straight in the Japanese version it hits crouch blockers in the US/World it misses.
I think CE and Dash have many differences with special moves properties or hitboxes, I have already managed to find some major difference between the two besides the Psycho Crusher, no egg beater and lesser damage.
A great series of vids just put up the Jeff Scheaffer talking all about the early competitive scene, all the players, Hyper Fighting etc. Get over there and check them out right away!!

I really would have appreciated it if I were brought up in Cali. When I was growing up all of the arcade cats I knew just fell off the face of the earth or at least Houston. Since HF I’ve been playing since I was 6 man I think I would have been awesome by now. The SF game I was best at. Those were some really good vids of Jeff on the OG scene, and I am humbled.
