The SF2 Hyper Fighting Thread

i used to love this game but the xbox live community have made this game very boring

Yeah, it was a completely random that we went to it. One of us found out about it a few days before it went down and it just so happened that neither of us had to work that day, so we decided to take a road trip. It was a rush to see that there were these really great players and techniques we had never seen before.

The tournament itself was run on a big row of machines. They had far more SF machines than we had ever seen in a single arcade. And if I recall correctly, the ones that were being used for the tourney were elevated on this platform. So you had to walk up these steps onto a make-shift stage to play the tourney matches while the crowd watched the matches from the ground. They also had a few more machines off to either side and a couple more scattered about for practice play. They also had a beta of ST there. Playing that before it came out was a blast! The whole thing was a ton of fun!

Ahh memories… :wgrin:

Did they tone down Dic’s knee press corner trap in HF? If he gets Sim in the corner and starts doing that, is there a point where SIm can break it?

Also, when Dic does head stomp, and he flies towards (or behind) you, what are your options?

Thats so ccol JV, did U actualy get to see Watson play and pull ‘The Mike’ on anyone? & did they have one of the SSF2 ‘Tournament Edition’ 8player cabs?

Yes you can break out. They toned down Dictator in HF, increased his chargetime etc… That sequence isn’t possible anymore, whatsmore if the Knee Press hits you, the 2nd hit knocks down, so it can’t be combod off like in CE.
You mean the ‘Swallow Dive’? I dont think any of his standing AA attacks can beat it clean, but Im fairly sure you can slide it. Just block if in doubt.

Latest set from nFBA, very nasty Sagat player with the Tiger Knee, throw/TU mixup game.

Hyper Fighting Channel.

I got to see him play, but honestly I don’t remember the whole “The Mike” thing. He, and a couple of the other real good players there, just played a no-nonsense style. We were used to people jumping in over fireballs and so we could SRK, Flash Kick them, etc. But these cats weren’t falling for those parlor tricks. They seemed like a rock. Whatever you threw out or tried they just avoided or countered and their spacing and timing were superb. It felt like there was nothing you could do that would touch them. It was a much more refined sense of play than we were used to seeing.

They definitely had at least 8 cabs, but I don’t remember if they were the tournament edition or not. I don’t think they were though, but I could be wrong.

awesome Crayfish, you got the same Gamepro mag as me

the 90s mags that I have kept were mostly the SF related ones, many of them were those Gamepro ones with the Fighter’s Edge combo sections.

Casual games are whatever. It would be more interesting to record a tourney because everyone plays a different style. When you play someone all the time, you do become somewhat predictable.

If I played a stranger, I wouldnt mind recording games. I just need something to record with :). We’ll see. If someone wants to come over and record, Im down.

Any news on the vids from the tournament the Korean CE players went to?

Seem my response to SweetJV asking same thing in this post:

Why dont you just get a stick and record some online games with nFBA like I have been. There are plenty of stranges online, 80% of the people I play online are in Cali, so Ud get perfect connection. You could even organise an online tourney.

Things really picking up online now. Lots of people who’ve seen the thread are appearing on #srkkaillera for challanges. Here’s the latest set of highlights:

Guile vs E.Honda (vs BF)

Making Ur way through Guile’s Sonic Boom minefield can be hugely rewarding, tho its quite an uphill battle.

Ryu vs Sagat (vs MGear aka snake)

Just check out snake’s CPS1 chains in the first round! This matchup when back and forth, really great set of matches snake!

Guile vs Chun Li (vs MGear aka snake)

Match not showcased before. Chun can give Guile a good match. Chun’s c.HK can beat Guile’s c.MK clean if only the legs collide. Having a motion FB means she can force Guile to jump in if he gets behind, and s.MK, c.MK, s.HP will beat all his jumpins…

Guile vs Blanka (vs mad possum)

Another 1st showing for a great matchup. Blannka can trade c.HK sweep against SB’s for more damage and knockdown. Jump in MK, bite is a really nasty tick to keep the pressure on with & c.MK/c.LK can beat Guile c.MK clean. Guile should go for SB, jumping HP.
GGS mad possum, really wanna play that Honda vs Dhalsim match (that got interupted by desynch) with you again, that was really tough!

What I really wanna get is the recordings of you guys playing eachother. Now I’ve played quite a few different poeple, I think there would be some great matchups. Just download the Okai recorder from here: http://kaillera.movsq.net/#
*You need to have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package instald

Check ‘record matches’ in the little box before U check the ‘ready’ box. The tiny compressed ‘.krec’ replay files appear in the ‘records’ folder. That simple…

Hyper Fighting Channel.

Chun Li vs Zangief:

Ultima, some more info abt Ur local scene would be hugely welcome. Is there any chance of you getting out the video camera at any point?

Hyper Fighting Channel.

I like the chun/gief match here.

Nice matches. I like that Dhalsim!

Get some in games with me man!

Crayfish. I actually did get an adapter, but I don’t think its good because I was getting major response issues. ( couldn’t block fast enough, easy combos werent comin out… etc) Im not sure if its because of the lag or online play. Im still waiting for my super pro adapter to come in and we’ll see from there.

Tight execution is important. Every fireball, every combo matters when you need to position yourself. You will see better game play strategy offline. We’ll see how the adapter helps.

This guy is extremely good. Who is this guy? His timing is near perfect.

Ken

That’s TZW, a legendary group of Guile combo masters (only peer in oldschool SFII combos was Skill Smith). TZW-ART? is probably the one performing these combos.

are these programmed combos?

Some matches to tide us over until the China footage:
