Is it me or does the divekick seem to not have much blockstun? Which is strange because the hitstun on it is obnoxious.

So I was trying to think of ways to make use of Rufus’ stored counter hit. I found this:
After storing a counter hit with Rufus you can essentially do df. m on the ground(Rufus’ roll kick) then link c.lpxxEX GT then do whatever combos you know. This scares opponents to block low at certain distance when the counter is stored. This is especially great in the corner as you can do great damage

So I vaguely remember seeing nerd josh get 2 f.hk’soff of ex gt in the corner, but I wasn’t able to figure it out, so I came up with this combo:
Dive kick/j.hp/, s.hp xx hp gt, c.lp, s.lp, s.mp, s.hp xx ex ss
Now 3 things - I’m pretty sure you can get more damage than this, but this is a good option if you are just short on meter, it will build you up enough to do some extra damage if needed.
Next, I don’t recall off the top of my head because I just went for the above every time, but since you link the s.lp for the c.lp, you can do a different chain to get more damage. I want to say the most I got was 415 or something, but I’m not sure ATM
And 3rd because it is a link, I’m pretty sure after thinking about it, you could probably go c.lp, s.hp xx lp ss and tag cancel it. For 2 meters you can tag out during ex ss, which is swag as fuck, but 2 stocks is not meter efficient unless you have a real damaging tag in combo
Oh, and not really related to the above, but a blocked divekick, s.hp, hp tornado is a really safe way to tag someone in - characters tagging out finish the animation of the move they were doing, so if you mp/mk as soon as you start hp gt, you’ll be able to tag rufus out for free
In the corner I just go for Fragrance Palm x3 into HP Snakestrike. Sounds like that would be much more damaging then the above mentioned combo and it’s meterless.
After the tag you can com in for mix ups if the opponent is blocking the GT. Find a move with the character you’re tagging that is an ambiguous cross-up then do a combo.
Hmm, you can add a s.hp before hp SS. Didn’t someone mention lk messiah + lk follow doing more damage than SS?
it’s 90+80, quite a bit more than heavy SS (not even sure if everything connects). Not sure if it will work after s.hp (too many juggle moves?) but it a lot less hits, meaning it wont scale as bad.
Any general Rufus/Gief strats? Im maining Gief, and the general consensus is that Rufus compliments him insanely well.

Jwong’s Rufus is pretty advanced already. There’s still room for improvement but there’s some interesting tech and strategy most notably the use of special cancelling close standing heavy punch. The frame advantage and resets available with that were pretty nasty.
Another interesting thing he used was the buffed fragrance which I found myself utilizing online to a degree of success. Not only is it great for corner combos it is also incredibly helpful as a get off me tool. Anti airs well, hits both sides and sends the opponent full screen for a safe meterless tag/ Hopefully Jwong sticks with Rufus since he’s looking pretty damn scary in this game.
Cant we just get a dedicated combo thread going instead of having everything all mashed up in here and having to search through individual post for some combo help.

Im mostly using chainable normals into tag combos while midscreen, since I don’t have a good hit-confirm worked out with Rufus that will allow me to combo into non-ex specials

Snake Strike isnt that good imo. Maybe I am just doing it wrong. But here are my bnb’s off of dive kicks. Coming out of retirement.
Midscreen: TC, TC, F+HP xx hk messiah kick (messiah kick whiffs) 263 dmg
hp xx hp gt 246 dmg
hpxx lk messiah,lk followup 278 dmg
Corner: HP xx HP GT, TC, F+HP, HK Messiah, lk followup. 427 dmg
my go to for now is c.mp xx lp ss, m ight be able to get messiah instead though
Why not just follow up with hp instead? hp xx hp ss and hp xx SA is what I’ve been doing from it.
let’s say I just connected with a sweep. what specifically do I have to do in order to get a cross up dive kick ?
is Rufus looking as strong as SF4? or did he get the massive balrog nerf stick
new follow up - this is off of any air to air, btw
you can go tc, sweep or tc c.hp off of air to air hits that cause juggle state
You could also heavy punch into snake strike.
