The Rufus Thread

You can end with MK followup which will do even more.

ok im diggin this option… im done for the night so I havent tried it out yet…
My fav Rufus combo right now is anything taht gets me a :h:Galactic Tornado so I can Cross Cancel and do a j:hk: combo with my teammate… for ez 1bar 500damage

Rufus makes me rage. Both my winning streaks (20+), killed by a Rufus player. I’m still trying to find THE team. I’ve been running mostly Ryu/Bison and some Vega randomly. I find Rufus annoying as heck with Bison if I’m not catching my opponent off guard with EX moves.

this would probably be way better, you could also tag cancel off of the snake strike. converting huge damage from stray hits is rufus’ forte it seems

Any advice on partners? I’ve barely had anytime to play this game but from what I’ve seen Shotos, Chun, Vega look good? Basically characters that have moves that stay out for a while so Rufus can run a mix up.

I don’t know how important this is compared to having a solid partner, my alt in SF4 was Abel so I’m thinking of just running those two even if the synergy is ass.

Does anybody else have trouble doing snake strike consistently after popping them up with your partner and calling Rufus in?

Can anybody confirm that it is impossible to do in the corner that you are facing?

Also, do you guys think Rufus has easy matchups vs Vega and Chun?

Even though Dive Kicks have more hitstun, people can still dp through the blockstrings. Once again that f’s me up, I need help here.

if you think they’re going to dp, just do a divekick and press nothing intentionally, let him eat a ton of damage a few times and they’ll stop.

or just do your divekicks lower and go for easy stuff

The best thing about this combo is that after the HK.Messiah, Divekick over the opponent, then as they recover jump back into the wall and divekick again. Because your back is technically to the wall, they can’t roll away.

Rufus’ Divekick travels at a very steep incline off of jump back, depending on what they do, it can cause a ridiculously ambiguous crossup.

how the fuck you deal with dive kicks? i try neutral jumping and doing hk but that cant be reliable cuz rufus will do jump hard kick and get the jugle. i cant aa from the ground against it cuz he can switch the timing of the dive kick. i just cant figure it out. any ideas?

Jumping back is really effective in this game. I’ve had a lot of my predicting j.hk’s trade with jump backs. If the Rufus player isn’t mixing it up enough then adapt to it and find a way out. If he’s just spamming dive kick then throw out a guessing AA. If he ends a string with a blocked galactic then use that chance as your way out.

thx man, ill try this out, but it doesnt sound TOO concrete

Eh, he’s a divekick character. There’s no solid way of stopping him besides good guesses and reactions.

You could also easily Alpha Counter his blocked Galactic’s if you have a meter to spare. I think once people figure out when to use Alpha Counters EX Messiah will be less viable since characters without a good option against blocked EX Messiah can just Alpha Counter it and not have to worry about the mixup afterwards.

against people that start alpha countering my blocked tornados i will dash cancel it and just do another mixup lol

I’m having a REAL hard problem with ryus that just seem to want to do the “oh, lets just c.mp > c.mp > c.mk > dash cancel” as well as the jab pressure shit. alpha counter doesn’t do anything really for me for this situation. Also people who really enjoy doing air to air vs rufus and beating both divekick and jump hk with things like ryu’s jump in MK. Very frustrating when you can’t get any sort of rushdown going as you can’t really play good defense IMO with this character.

Also having a real problem vs jumpers once i’m grounded for some reason. What are you doing for anti-air other than trading with s.hp?

Other than doing things like s.lp x 3 > jump > crossup how are people reliably getting crossups for divekicks?

What are you doing to punish rolls other than jump back mk? I seem to get DP’d a ton when I try this.

c.mp is an amazing antiair in this game, much improved from sf4

as for people that beat you in the air, j.hk has 7 frames of startup, if i know someone is going to be jumping at me i’ll do n.j hk, starts in 6 and still does a lot of damage. even though they have the exact same startup, j.mk is really good as air to air as opposed to j.hk, and j.mp even has its situational uses

i usually go for nj.hk though, it really makes people think twice about jumping in on you

After a sweep (from his TC, his EX GT midscreen or FS.HK BnB into sweep) you can walk forward a little before going for a forward jump divekick and make a 50:50 crossup situation depending on when you do the divekick.

Remember when you have them in the corner delay your dive kick so they roll back in the corner instead of the opposite way. If you got a knockdown midscreen and weren’t expecting them to roll out you can quickly do a df.mk to keep applying pressure.

Doing the second thing vs the computer on roll it always rolls out of the corner no matter when i divekick or my positioning (if i am in the corner after they still roll out somehow)

Edit: Nvm worked after a mesiah kick.

I was wrong. Once you knock them down and you want to keep them in the corner you just have to quickly hop over them with a DK and then quickly DK back out of the corner again and you can continue pressuring them before the roll animation is over. After a sweep you can’t stop them from rolling out, but for corner combos you’ll be ending it with SS or GT anyway.

Been using Rufus since day one, and his chains are really good. You can land multiple crouch or stand lk/lp, into c.mk which leads to:

  1. c.hp launcher if you need to tag out.
  2. sweep which does a nice amount of damage from hit confirming c.lk

His far s.mk is very, very good in this game. Nice distance poke which you can combo into the same stuff.

If u are at max distance, u can delay into f.hk for a nice frame trap.

Btw, how are you guys landing qcf tag with Rufus, after TC x2, I can’t seem to get it to connect.
