The Return of the Thigh: Chun-Li SSF4 Thread

it doesnt, its still the same as her low short

I think the best thing about Ultra 2 is the ability it gives Chun to do decent damage without using any EX meter.

J.HP-> Ultra
DF_ LK Ultra
Target Combo Ultra
Focus attack->ultra
Anti Air

That way she can stock EX meters for Super, and that will really shut down an opponents offense.

did df+LK hitbox get buffed? it seems to beat many jumpins clean now, and you can u2 on aa hit/trade

it DEFINITELY got buffed… how exactly we dont know… but really all we need to know is that its really good now.

has the akuma matchup gotten any better?

well having an ultra that stops all neutral game demon flip attacks is pretty cool, but not being able to stop teleports or air fireballs will be the disadvantage

I heard her back Dash got nerfed… any confirmations about this?!

I played her again today:

  • Dashes seem the same, didn’t notice anything, both of them still broke
  • df+lk is a great aa, it was good in vanilla but didn’t give any payoff, seems even better now and gives good payoff.
Didn’t manage to combo stomps afterwards, but I think it’s possible.
Was able to aa Zangief j.hp clean with it several times.
  • frames on c.mk might have been changed, felt different on block, might be + now?
  • st.mp still great
  • u2 is fun to use in conjunction with c.mk/st.mp, confirm, ex legs, u2
  • I’m not sure but it feels like you have to do st.mp x ex legs, ex legs, u2 sometimes to be able to reach, but u2 might reach longer than I think.
  • didn’t manage to get stomp x3, j.hk to combo, but didn’t get it to visible connect either, this is still an unconfirmed combo.

chun lis 2nd ultra is so good I started to main her.

It can be done after air to air hp. and her j.hp have very mutch prioroty, it beats anything, so jumper are going to get it harder. btw EX legs does 30 less dmg. I will test her more tomorrow

Looking at Yeb’s Cody frame data.

Looks like Chun can punish/reversal ultra all Cody’s specials with the exception of LP CU and Bad stones with U1. Should be able to Ultra/Dash ultra stones though, if the recovery is not too fast.

Good news that it reversals Zonk Knuckles.

Also Chun can reversal U1 his sweep.

But better news Chun can probably Jab -> Fierce punish everything providing distance. Most probably Swedish Firecracker as well, especially since it has more range.

Doesn’t look like Cody is safe on anything really if his blocked.

Will be interesting too see how many frames startup U2 is. Someone mentioned 7? If so that’s going to be dangerous for a lot of chars.

wow, that’s awesome. Good shit

I think that’s going to be my first thing to do this week when I finally sit down with it, go through a bunch of the characters and find out what can be U1 punished. It’s going to be highly underrated in favor of U2 by a lot of newer chun players who see the easy damage, but I have a feeling U1 will still be more valuable overall in terms of how you will force your opponent to play. Everyone knows her super is scary as shit, with these tweaks Hosenka may be just as scary.

Abel’s Ultra 2 is really fucking annoying. Don’t bother doing U2 it goes through the startup clean.

Chun’s trials are up on youtube:

U2 was a bit disappointing to me. Overhyped, IMO. I mean, I know it’s better than never landing Hosenka, but the damage isn’t that great on it. The buffed df.lk is nice, though. It was pretty good against Honda jump ins.

Honestly, it was a tad disappointing damage-wise in my point of view as well. But it’s still a really nice addition in Chun’s move set, and if it has a fast startup it will be a lot of fun to punish with it as well. 7-frame startup seems pretty believable for Kikosho. I’m really happy about the fact that we can punish most of Cody’s specials.

Edit: Found some footage of a Chun player who knows what he’s doing.

Played again today and I have to say that I’m totaly loving st.mp x ex legs, u2!

The Cody matchup seems much like how you play against honda/balrog/zangief, keep him out with pokes and fireballs.
Zonk and ex low ruffian goes through the fireball, but I’m not getting scared at all from getting hit by them, just be careful of ex zonk x fadc, u1.
EX legs connects 4 hits on Cody, which is awesome.
He’s got really good counterpokes against Chun so she’ll have to be careful in her poking, his c.hk counterpokes st.hk and st.hp really well.
His f+mp also has a surprisingly good hitbox for stuffing stuff while getting in.

f+mk might have been changed, not sure about this, but I was able to use it to extend my blockstrings pretty well today.
her previous blockstrings still work c.lp, c.hp/c.lp, cl.hk/far c.lp, st.mp.
far c.lp, st.mp x ex legs confirmed is really good now because of u2.
c.mk still seems improved somehow, can’t really say what it is but I could use it well doing c.mk, walkup, c.mk, c.mk etc.

Thanks for the info Skatan. I guess I will have to work on st.mp x ex legs now when we have Kikosho. Did you try stomp x3 into HK? Any more news on df+lk?

Didn’t get a chance to try stomp x3 into hk today =(
I’ll have a console with the game at my place this weekend so I’ll be testing stuff out!
And -everyone- should work on st.mp x ex legs, u2 because of the sheer fear it puts in the opponent from an already great poke.

One fun thing I did notice today was doing instant oh stomp shenanigans was more fun since it could lead into ultra.
So I think we’ll see some more of that down the road

you dont know even wtf you are talking about. Absorb fireballs/moves and till you get more ultra meter, then land it, it is so easy I would land it every round. I honestly think it is one of the best new ultras.
s.HK, EX Legs, Ultra II does like 450 dmg. and it is really easy to land.

btw df lk is amazing. omg it beat jumpin attacks all the time(all ranges). now there is no need to waste a EX for AA now.

There never was a need
