Hakan also has weak anti air without his insane AA ultra so that’s definitely a place to keep pressure on.
- Chun has improved far s.MP
Improving s.MP is a curious choice given that it’s arguably the one poke that doesn’t need improvement. I was under the impression that it was c.MK that was noticeably improved. What are your thoughts on this?
Personally, I’m just hoping that s.HK wasn’t nerfed. I rely so much on that poke in footsies and I attribute it’s speed and range to it’s usefulness. Has anyone encountered a video so far that can give further insight to this?
edit: At least for me, it looks like s.HK has the same speed : at the 5:50 mark
Aside from the st. mp what really interest me is the review of her footsies game, clear and PRECISE. st.mp is just an example here as well as d/f lk, I can’t wait to see what juicy changes to her normals can do, should be able to compete with Ryu’s cr. mk I hope. Can’t wait, so hyped.

2:14 her c.mk definitely got better!
I asked them to try out her old ultra juggles too, but it looks like they forgot
yep, unfortunately i think you’re right I remembered chun’s c.mk hitting only with her ankle, but i tried it right now and fuerte gets hit in the same way (the stupid idle hitbox tricked me)
so the actual known buffs are
- new ultra
- possibly an improved f s.mp
3)…?
and the nerfs are
- weaker EX legs
2)…?
the blog translation said “standing strong punch”, so maybe they meant her standing fierce.
Cause I don’t see many reasons to buff mp, while hp hitbox sometimes magically whiffs when anti-antiairing.
^The kanji in that part is specifically standing “medium/middle” punch.
from the new info thread:
"Chun:
U2 is insane. Can be landed from a lot of different situations. Top character for sure.
EX legs combo U2 does a lot of damage.
Other than this chun hasn’t changed otherwise. Because of U2 she has gotten much much better and is probably in the top.
U2 isn’t a charge move"
so it sounds like they really like U2 and say it does a lot of damage with ex legs? maybe they mean if you mash ex legs during a blockstring and land the ultra from it so you dont have the scaling involved when using 2 c.lks first?
i do like how it can be landed in “lots of different situations”
Well, think about it:
EX SBK (corner) > U2
Any jab > low short > U2
Focus crumple > U2
Upkicks > U2
EDIT: I’ll continue to list the setups that I suspect will work…
Any EX Legs setup > U2
C.fierce FADC > U2 (maybe??? not sure about this, but if it works you could have: J.fp x2 > C.fp > FADC > U2).
Any legs FADC > U2
Hasanshu FADC > U2 (Again…this is a HUGE maybe…)
Focus crumple > stomp > J.fierce > U2 (Again…big maybe here…)
hell yeah list em all!
i’m brand new to chun and still learning the basics
I think he was mocking my wording. It’s a little hard to switch from Spanish to English on the fly like that. I was typing that as I was listening and wasn’t paying attention to how I was saying things as long as I could convey the proper meaning.
i wasn’t mocking you at all, i was genuinely excited at the idea of being to land the ultra easily, its the total opposite of guile’s ultra
(i still think abel’s ultra1 is king though, easy enough to land and tons of damage)
Yeah, her Ultra makes her the new Rufus. Well, maybe not quite that bad. Landing it off of EX Legs will be a very common occurence though. Easy hit confirm.
Yeah man welcome to the Chun Army!
I’m just a grunt, so for the really good shit, you want to see someone in command: Mags, Dime, Shizza, Skatan, Nerd, Lud, et al… (you know who you are).
lol, parabellum you’re actually one of the reasons i’m picking her up, you wrote a post (about 6 months ago?) about why she was a good character for anyone to try learning because her low lifebar makes you really think about what you’re doing while you play. it stuck with me and now i’m practicing with her to improve my basic skills (pretty much every new character i pick up teaches me more about the game, i learned a lot about footsies switching from abel to guile, and now im really learning more about pokes and versatility/adaptability with chun)
Wow, I’m shocked and happy that I managed to recruit someone to the Fellowship of the Thigh!
I think learning chun gives you good spacing, footsies, and a strong appreciation for the many uses of most normals.
I actually started playing more Chun a few months ago because everything led me to believe that she would be more interesting to play in Super (and I was afraid Bison would suck).
I’m still working around some of her mechanics, like pianoing into legs with having the ex ones come out.
I cant’ wait to see if they really improved d/f+lk.
If d/f+lk becomes a reliable anti-air comboing into ultra2 from it would be really nice. :]
