The Return of the Thigh: Chun-Li SSF4 Thread

Don’t forget TvC, OMFG she is beast especially teamed with Ryu as an assist.

EDIT:

Arrrg thats what im worried about too, I hope they did’nt get rid of her hitbox shinanigeins, most of these guys who played chun just did her basic stuff, nothign advanced so we don’t know yet. The midwest never seems to get these demos dispite the fact that Illinois is another major city otherwise i’d test the hell out of her. and report to the Fellowship on it. But at thsi point im pretty much SSFIV out, I know all the characters most of the change ups and all the modes, nothing more I can ask for, so all thats left is the waiting game. Plenty of games to play. My Arcade stick has been snailed mailed back to Mad Catz (TE version) so it will be awhile before I see my fixed up or brand new stick. uggg back to the fightpad.

Chun Ryu is a godlike team in TvC.

But so is Jun/Chun (the team I am trying to learn).

Tekkaman blade + chun is beast mode as well.

I would imagine that Yatterman-2/Chun is also good.

Chun is just damn good in TvC…her assist makes her a great secondary character.

Upkicks > Baroque > Upkicks all day long.

MvC2 is the only Vs. game she doesn’t wreck face in. That’s four for five. She’s better than Ryu on average, I reckon, and probably pretty close to Akuma as far as typical tier position.

I’m pretty sure she hasn’t gotten notably nerfed on normals or anything. This isn’t El Fuerte where his gameplan is so bereft of pokes that you’d be hard pressed to notice stuff, Chun Li’s array of normals gets used constantly, and is integral to the functionality of the character. Plus which Capcom’s made it very clear they’re changing very little aside from very specific changes. There could be minor frame tweaks, but nothing super important in general.

So did chun li get any buffs beside her ultra 2?

Any changes to her moves? Her normals?

I don’t believe her ultra 2 is that big of a buff, its an ultra you’d probably pick against non fireballers or someone who is not blanka. It’s definitely not going to be your “go-to” ultra for every matchup, because her ultra 1 offers so much - the pressure it provides you, it almost completely shuts down zoning with projectiles allowing you to rushdown better.

When you factor in all the zoning characters it doesn’t work on, plus the broken juggle, PLUS all the times where you land EX legs (where it would be a guaranteed U2)…I’m going to roll with U2 all day long, except for a few key matches (Blanka, Honda, maybe Ryu).

i fully plan on ditching hosenka entirely. unless of course, it actually works on everyone now.

its got some other weird problems like how 9/10 times it cant be jumped into, despite the fact that it seems like most of the time it should work that way.

ive literally gone through people with it. its just a bad/glitchy ultra, and it does not suit my play style with chun at all.

Capcom probably thought she was too good in MvC1 so she got nerfed hard. I was crying on the inside when I first played her in MvC2.

It’s suppose to be really easy to combo, and have super fast start-up. When it hits all the hits connect. I can see people getting off ultras on ex legs all day. Most people will use ultra 2 most of the time.

So they still didn’t animate Chun Li’s clothes when she does Ultra 2? That’s kinda lazy… must’ve been too busy looking at Turkish wrestling.

One of her biggest assets in MvC1 was her HP > Super Lightning Legs, and it was removed for MvC2. I remember the first day I played MvC2, the computer controlled Chun-li tried that very same combo on me, only to have it blocked and punished. It felt so strange. It was like the Chun-li AI didn’t get the memo on her own nerfs.

Ultra juggle on every character that’s all I ask.

as much as I love her in SF4 and 3S, I actually have no interest in playing her in TvC for some reason. Guess I’m not really feeling her combos yet, maybe that will change when I actually play the game more. Hmm, maybe I’ll sit down tonight and actually see how well she pairs up with alex, since there’s no way in hell I’m taking that damage monster off my team

I heard from a friend who played final version (or the copy reviewers get) that Chuns Ultra 2 did crap damage but had a ridiculous Hitbox.

Was that so in previous build or is this a new change?

Any word on whether EX lightning leg is still safe on block?

Also does cr.jab still do 40 damage?

Lastly, I noticed that in the wiki cr.lk is listed as +2 on hit, but clearly it links into EX legs which is listed as 4 start up.

I’d venture to guess that cr.lk is actually +4 on hit since 2 frame startup on a special seems ridiculous.

What’s the real frame data on this?

It chains. Kara cancels a chained cr.LK more specifically, probably.

I see, that’s probably why you can mash it.

Anyone else think this is a tad ridiculous now that she can reliably combo her ultra?

^^^^ nope

oh… i think we’ve been over this before havent we? lol

All I’m saying is if her spinning bird kick wasn’t so much of a pain in the ass to set up, I would most likely use her alot more. I’m not saying change the command, but I feel its more difficult than any other character’s down charge> up > kick command.

Yeah regular SBK sucks but i found some unpratical uses for it, SBK seems to be good againts Elf’s frog splash as an unconventional antiair, You just got to activate it when he’s timing his run againts you. Of course keep in mind this is not good for wake up though and we all know how un reliable Ex SBK is gaints good Elf’s. But SBK has uses just not reliable uses.

Crouching short check its the RETURN OF THEE THIGH

Only thing that’s on ma mind…is who’s gonna crouching short toniiiight

Kinda funny how Chun went from being joe blow…now er’body tryna U2…no bono.

Chun wasn’t so good in MSF imo. Then again, that was basically Wolverine: The Game. Perhaps the strongest non-hidden character in SvCC too.
