The Return of the Thigh: Chun-Li SSF4 Thread

Chun Li is not nearly as handicapped as people seem to make her out to be. She lacks in a few areas, that’s about it. ‘Handicapped’ would refer to some of the other crappier characters in this game.

Then im saying it the wrong way. What I mean is im afraid that out of all the characters that need additional buffing, I don’t think Chun Li will get the most treatment or at least not wear she needs it. Im just paranoid, im sure she will get the treatmean she needs, it would just be nice to know exactly what kind. I’m hoping for another location test sometime before the end of February.

I do find it peculiar that from the sounds of it, Chun Li seems to have been nerfed more than Sagat. I mean Chun Li doesn’t need any major buffs, but she’s one character I never thought Capcom would be justified in nerfing at all.

If it launched on normal hit instead of counter hit, or if it had a startup of around 6/7 instead of 10, sure. But not as it is. You can’t fish for counter hits with something that slow at the range it has.

And it’s a a pretty weak attack to boot, damage is “really?” and it only hit’s once. I only got maybe one or two good uses and they were VERY situational. Considerign her options, there are far better ways to link her Ultra than d/f short which I think should be done away with. They also need to fix Chun Li’s heel stomp. when compared to Seth, Seth’s Heel Stomp feels exactly how you would play Chun Li’s Heel stomp game form other Street Fighters. Chun’s Heel stomp is too restricted to d mk, no flexibility.

Your talking about the slow down for the st.Roundhouse and cr. forward right? I also heard they lowered the damage on her EX Legs just because she can now do more hits depending on how much you press the kick buttons. I never understood Japanese philosophy in balancing games. But I did notice Chun Li seems to have more blood, at the fight club I notice Chun Li survived an Ultra Raging Demon at just a little more than 25% health. That don’t happen in SFIV as we speak.

Nah. must be a mistake. Even zangief can’t survive against an SGS with 25% of life.

K, it’s here it’s under Fight Club Part 3 Chun Li Vs. Akuma Starts at 4:56. You’ll notice she gets hit with a FA and he goes straight into an Ultra. and has a slither of health\ before Akuma just finishes her with a special.

Now I don’t know about you guys but i’ve been hit a couple of times by this in SFIV this week at 50% health and died. It’s still early to be certain but this is the build as we know it now.

it was a level 1 ultra scaled to 60% percent cause of being combod into plus FA and guts… combine that with chuns slight boost in hp that she seems to have in that build and you get a reasonable reason why that ultra did slightly less than usual.

so yeah i agree with you about chun having more hp in that build:

sgs does 450 damage at lvl 1 iirc, 60% of 450 should be around 250 damage or so and she does seem to have around 25% hp left so its reasonable to assume that her total lifebar may be 1000 instead of 900… although guts factored in as well so it may only be 950…

Seemed to me like a lot of stuff did less than in SFIV.
Looking througout the match Akuma’s c.hk seemed to do notciably less damage and also the air tatsu, lp srk x fadc, shaku did less.
So she might actually have 1000, or Akuma’s damage got nerfed.

thats eaxctly what i was thinking as well skatan… funny how we look at the same things… when he swept her at the beginning of the round i was like…" that didnt do as much as usual"

I doubt Akumas damage was nerfed.

at the very least give more HP…its hard enough dealing with her high risk attacks…her pokes are good for the most part unless im playing a decent ryu who can cr mk or SRK…exSBK should also have top priority since its easily punished…she has tools to deal with everyone its just hard playing good ryus sagats and rufus and im definitely no slouch

Chun’s changes in SSF4 are going to have us on the edge of our seat until we’ve broken down the game after weeks of play. For a character that is in the upper half tiers but can lose a round at a bad risk, I’m with the team “More HP.” Yeah, she’s got all the right tools to win. But you’re always gonna have to outplay your opponent. Gimme the life to block another shoryuken or two for an opportunity and I’m sold.

Or both, I think even at 1000 HP I think that would have killed her.
I think Chun Li might become even a bigger threat now. I just read the blog and some of the issues that make it easy to bully a chun player may be thrown out the window. Here’s a few quotes that caught my attention. The blog is up now.

Im not sure how but im assuming they are shortening the throw ranges or increasing the start up frames or both Thats what makes the wake up games really tough actually, there are situations where I feel like im caught in some loop and if I make the wrong move im smacked back down. Though I do remember that EX Bird pushes the enemy back on block now in Super 4 so that should help a bit.

I’ll just say I hope they consider Shoryukens with extream prejudice.

I kinda like that Chuns is one of those characters that can compete at high levels, but is more difficult to play because of her inconsistencies. I hope they don’t try to patch too many of her holes, because I’m not ok with her being another Ryu or Boxer. I would rather see a little bit of polish here and there than a bunch of drastic changes that round her up into the top tier.

Thats why im trying to get as good as I can get with Chun Li now, I don’t want to feel like I have to wait for someone to throw me a bone. And I have to say, each victory with Chun Li is rewarding at most. To win a fight where the odds are againts you and you come on top. None of your opponents gimmicks work againts you, and your actually a threat as a rush down Chun.

Brings a Tear to my eye everytime I see “Chun Li Wins!..PERFECT.”

 Yes I feel the same.

I agree that all Chun needs is 1000 health. I hope Kikosho isn’t TOO godly…

I hope they give Chun a penis to make her ex-sbk a more reliable anti-air. Seriously.

I am a little disappointed about the roundhouse being slower, but I think they should consider buffing df+lk and f+mk, because the first is virtually useless and the latter has too much startup, does not combo (as far as I know) and does poor damage. Oh yeah, I did not like the changes in EX SBK and EX LEGS also. I’m only looking foward to testing the new ultra basically lol.

I am the real-life Chun Li, since last night.

…or not.
