The Return of the Thigh: Chun-Li SSF4 Thread

Uhh, LV, I think you double-posted, lol. Anyways, yeah I agree, a new link would be nice. In regards to Hosenka, seeing as how Kikosho combos off EX Legs anywhere on screen, I don’t have as many gripes with it whiffing if juggled anymore. I look at it like this now, Hosenka: powerful Ultra that is hard to combo, but brings the hurt, Kikosho: weaker Ultra that is easy to combo into for complete hit.

If I’m playing Gouken, and I’m going to choose Hosenka, and I’m going to want that that corner combo. If it’s blind select, and I choose Hosenka, and they choose Gen/Akuma/Whatever I’m going to want that corner combo. KikouShou comboing mid-screen isn’t going to help me.

Since KikouShou doesn’t look like an anti air, or really much use for anything except combos & maybe a focus breaker, that makes Hosenka the more interesting Ultra, and I don’t want the more interesting Ultra to be the least used. KikouShou is already going to be the default for blind select since it’s useful in all matchups, whereas Hosenka is great in some, but useless in others. Making it great in some, but harder to land in others makes it an actual choice (if still probably the lessor choice) in blind select.

When all of your online modes are apparently blind select, that’s pretty important. And as Azreal said, it’s also important on arcades, since you can’t change after winning, meaning if you choose Hosenka for Sagat, then fight a Viper you’re shit out of luck.

i dont particularly find chun weak versus fireballs anyways… she has hasan shu to slow down the opponents fireball patterns, add in the fact that she can combo out of it…

i really dont know which ultra i will use in what matchups, kikosho imho is the more of an expert level ultra at this point… cause she will have to be able to deal with opponents attacks that she really never had to with hosenka… such as blanka ball, and honda headbutts… basically her current ultra makes alot of characters not use certain things against her. like sth with no standing fierces or rufus with no cr.hp’s…

having to deal with rufus’ cr.hp with u2 might be a pain in the ass… u1 might be useable in that matchup just to keep him from doing them…

whatever happens… i’m extremely excited for chuns new ultra situation… now shes got 2 fully capable ultras which makes her almost like 2 diferent characters more than anyone else(besides gen) at this point…

they should make it so you can change the ultra after a win, just not the character.

Dime: I see what your saying, but Kiko does seem like the more braindead option to me. Not that I’m complaining, sometimes using the Hosenka feels like russian roulette.

Sure did. I also tried to delete the post 3 times to no avail, so…I can’t help you. Sorry!

I was thinking that Hosenka would still be useful vs shoto’s when they’re carelessly zoning, but then I realized I haven’t been in a situation for months.

Oh where…where have all the clowns gone?

AND YES I agree that Kikosho looks like the easy-mode ultra IMO. This was what I was hoping for, actually, so that after getting pwnt by some Ryu’s “fancy” Ultra set ups I can just switch from Hosenka for a few matches and show him how Chun operates when she can connect an Ultra from anwhere on screeen from a little jab.

“WHAT NOW SUKKA” is what I’ll then say before switching back to my classy Hosenka all smug and superior-like.

Anyone feel as I do?

Hah. Yes. That’s another way to look at it. Certainly punishing fireballs with Hasan Shu ~ lk -> EX legs + KikouShou is a lot harder than just Hosenkaing them. I guess I just enjoy that mini-game where people see how far they can push my reactions before they get Ultraed. (Which is pretty far lately, that’s what spending December away from a stick does to you.)

Yeah, I’m pretty damn hyped.:woot:

@LV:

No worries, I wasn’t complaining about it, lol. (If I knew how to quote stuff I would)

I agree with what else you said though, even though I don’t Main Chun.

yeah, i see what you guys are saying… me being a slight contrarian tho, i think chuns neutral game will be harder when she has no ultra1… currently when i play against fireballers its like a sigh of relief when i get my ultra… its like well now you cant stupidly throw those things anymore… to me thats easy mode to u1 through fireballs, i still get people testing my reactions with it… to there detriment. the ones that know however the matches kind of become a stalemate and i get to throw fireballs with them throwing to match.

all of that goes out the window if my ultra is u2 though.

so basically, to me its like:

u1 = easier neutral game versus fireball characters, chun is completely an all around character.

u2 = chun becomes a combo based character, harder to get in cause of fireballs and long ranged moves spammed more.

make no doubt about it, if you use u2 people will be playing to keep her out, and they will have the tools to do so. it will be on the chun player to get past the opponents defense, which i foresee being harder when she has u2.

but thats just my take.

i might be late with this but i just saw a video of chun doing the corner juggle on t hawk and he fell out!!!

!!!

you got the link?

Thawk should be hit TWICE by everything Chun does

!!!

ohh that’s so wrong. I thought they would fix that. No one is gonna pick that ultra anymore.

I am…

It still may work as a distance based juggle on T. Hawk (that’s how it works in this game for everyone). I usually don’t use it in a juggle anyway though. I like it primarily for it’s other purposes.

Looking at the recovery on dives, it looks like it would punish them, which makes it not completely useless for the matchup.

^^^i was thinking the exact same thing.

hawk aint going to be able to dive at chun when she has charge and u1.

now the only thing is to see if u2 punishes his blocked dives as well…

-dime

u1 could still be fixed by time there is a finished build

here hoping anyways i have fiath

I wouldn’t be surprised if b+mk punishes T.Hawk’s dive, and that combos into u2.

interesting… that will probably work

lol theory fighting punishes is fun!
