The Return of the Thigh: Chun-Li SSF4 Thread

A better cr.mk still doesn’t lead into anything, and is likely to remain behind far.mp & cr.mp in the useful poke list. It’s almost on the list just because it’s tradition. A cr.jab with less hit/block stun makes her existing no meter combos & vs Blanka meter combos harder, something she already has trouble with, and lowers her tik throw options, one of her better offensive tools. Of course what was actually suggested was to give her jabs slower startup, which is absurd.

I admit that I was the first one to mention ken, but his is not the point here.
Like I said I dont use cr.lp to escape pressure, Ive already mentioned the consequences of a nerf: lp to hp could be compromised if it is a hitstun nerf, and she will lose a good tick throw if it is a blockstun nerf, a 4 frames jab would be just stupid for someone like chun so I really dont see a good reason to ask for the nerf.
And Im complaining because it is a nerf she dont deserve, given to character ranked mid at best.

The Kikou-shou is all that chun needed, in my opinion. I can’t count the amount of times i’ve reduced an opponent to almost nothing only to whiff the ex kicks to ultra, and get ultra-ed on rising. I really like the concept of two hits to ex hasenshu, but i can live without it now that I have Kikou-shou.

Yeah I saw edmas list but I dont remember any details to comment. If all it had for Chun was nerfs w/o anything to make up for it, then hes off base because its not like SF4 Chun is even top tier, let alone OP. You justify buffs to Ken that others find insane by saying hes only mediocre and needs them…Chun is in similar boat, and she gets spayed?

Btw, cr.jab is definitely a necessity to her playstyle: Its the foundation of her only good meterless bnb. Given the fact that Chuns so reliant on having meter to survive, its significant. By the same token, old cr.mk wont dramatically improve SF4 Chun because linking it into super isnt nearly as commonly available, again due to meter, and because pokes as a whole are weak. For the record, I didnt notice any change to cr.mk in the Vegas footage,its always looked better than it is.

And if were really gonna use “they dont need it” to justify nerfs, theres a whole list of shit to remove from top tier before we touch mid.

And just to note…I think the fact that Akuma is apparently getting shafted in Super is a pretty good indicator that Capcom isnt just saying “k lets do what Edma wants.”

actually, the cr.lp nerf to chun i think was primarily suggested by the mullah.

i could be wrong…

but i remember him having probs with chun and wanting a few nerfs on her as well as being against most buff requests for her…

yeah but the disdain isnt for the mullah, its for the ignorance of ONLY nerfing chuns cr.lp attacks and not EVERY characters. almost half the cast has 3 frame weak attacks.

chun however is the only character that has BOTH a 3 frame jab AND short from crouching positions and close standing positions.( i dont know about console characters frames so much)

so when i saw the nerf i said… “oh well, we’ll use our cr.lk then… cause lol ITS BETTER!” shhhh dont tell anybody. :slight_smile:

Why are people crying about chun…she OK at best. Far HK is slower, ex bird sucks now,and new ultra wont do anything for her bad match ups. Why not give her a good anti air and call it a day. If a blanks player is crying about chun then he sucks.

This sentence is silly, you’re making it seem like I’m against Chun when I’m not. I was only talking about the possibility of the nerf and its irrelevancy if true. No one pointed out any specifics to the nerf. Provided that cr.jab to st.jab still works, they can make it so repeated cr.jabs won’t be as effective for all I care.

Anyway, turns out it’s some random joe who’s having a bad day against Chun Li who suggested it so this is all moot.

Also, this really has nothing to do with this thread, but yeah, I do think Ken is more incomplete than Chun Li is. Still very much capable, I mean he’s no Claw, but not quite in the same league as Chun, design wise.

As a ST Chun player It makes me sad to see what she’s become :frowning: I really wish they would give her back some of her normal priority and speed. Oh and dual Ultras for everyone, I would hate being forced to choose :smiley:

Sakura’s jabs and shorts are on par with Chun-li’s framewise. EXCEPT chun’s have better ranges, I think.

I’m a chun player that use all her tool and too me the slower RH and jab might annoy me for alittle bit. Long as it not slow as shit and that i can still connect my block strings together it might not be a big deal.

I Guess no more jab tick throws time to switch up to short tick throw … :sweat:

As for that c.forward that thing might a small beast. Its already good in SF4.

Nerfing her cr.LP would be a slap in the face. Chun has always been awesome. Why is Capcom so interested in making her squishy AND slow… she should be on par with the shoto’s because she’s CHUN-freakin-LI the Queen of Kicks and Capcom’s First Lady of fighting games. She demands respect!

Im not sure if this has been discussed but since ive heard rumors of everyone getting new moves does anyone know if Chun Li will be getting anything? I mean other than buff, and Kikosho. I hope it wouldnt be too much to ask for her up kicks like in ST, Except with more priority kinda like DJ’s kicks

it does suck how they nerfed chun, i understand about the jabs but nerfing the roundhouse and ex SBK is bs, but they aren’t done with the game yet so lets hope the nerfs doesn’t stick, so far the nerfs in the game are pretty bad they nerf balrog and akuma really bad, but rufus only gets his ex strike strike nerfed, if anything the two characters that need nerfing is sagat and rufus everyone else is fine, but even those two characters don’t need that much nerfing. i just hope the game get balanced, it doesn’t come out until april so lets hope every character gets a fair tweaking plus if they slow done st.roundhouse it will make zoning rufus and gief a lot harder.

I don’t think Ken isn’t as incomplete as you think. Here are the list of things that Ken has an advantage over chun.

-CONSISTENT AA that works the vast majority of the time.
-Health Advantage
-A better FB that doesn’t fade
-Step Kick that is probably one of the best mid pokes in the entire game
-Low Forward one of the best low pokes in the entire game which can be cancelled into anything he wants.
-Massive kara throw range
-Trade into DP

Ken and Chun are co-founders of the “3S gods nerfed to mortal-dom” club. They could both stand to be a bit better–not major buffs but some tweaks here and there. I’d just give Ken higher dizzy and chip damage, and giving Chun an average 1000 HP would totally justify the toolset she already has.
