The Razer Arcade Stick Thread!

Modding made easy lol its nice…simple design and very clean inside and a compartment WHAATTT!! lol

I also applied.

Seimitsu LS-32-01 stick please.

Also, make it smaller.
I know this is America, land of the "look at the size of me!"
But all of TT agrees that the best stick ever is the svelte Namco.
So base your stick on that, instead of the TE.

They do, I believe this much has already been confirmed by MarkMan.

Licensed TEs get a pass since they can say that the layout is required by the game in question.

You mean Chrysler, not Chevy.

noooooh

my feeble grasp on masculinity has been exposed

in front of all my peers

No worries, you can’t be good at everything. At least you’re willing to admit defeat instead of feebly attempting to make an argument saying that Chevy did make the Hemi engine.

… Just don’t let it happen again. jk

Some of the comments about wiring are jumping the gun. This is an unfinished product. From what I see I like the direction. Something I wanted Madcatz to do to be honest. I like the easy access to the inside. I applied for the beta. I this stick has the chance to really hit big.

Put a rotary in it. Rotaries make everything cooler, like 6-button.

On the wiring, K.I.S.S. Nothing wrong with making it pretty, but it shouldn’t get in the way. In a TE, if you need to replace a wire on the spot, take one of the ‘spare’ wires from a trigger button or Select or something, and swap it. The inside of the Razer has the appearance of simplicity, but the TE’s terminal strip makes these changes simpler. The dual-pole connectors also look cool, but they are purely aesthetic, and unnecessarily limit the connectivity options. If the final stick comes with these, use them in the product shots to look cool, but it should ship with a standard wiring harness for people who want to use other switches, especially since it is being advertised as a stick you are encouraged to mod. That wiring harness should probably have color-coded wires, if the other one has to stick with the green for whatever reason.

I’m not big and popular here, at EVO, or at MLG, but I applied because I own over 40 unique arcade sticks including actual cab parts and some of the most expensive from today to some of the oldest ever made. In all honesty it could even be significantly more but it’s been awhile since I’ve counted.

I’d trust the world of expert modders first and foremost for engineering, but I think I offer a unique perspective on what makes a good stick arcade efficient, accurate, and durable, and what also makes a good stick for a tournament or home environment.

I’ve applied for the beta.

I do think that they could stand to set themselves apart a bit more. Right now they are very much “me too” and will be purchased primarily by collectors, razor fans, and kids who don’t know better. But that is what this process is all about hopefully, if they’re serious about taking input.

Lets not suggest too many extra guys, we do not want to over inflate the value of a stick most of us are going to mod any ways
and for those who do not mod, a more expensive stick would be not as attractive price wise from the competition.

Lets also drop the 6 vs 8 button issue, if you really do not want the last 2 buttons, button hole plugs and plexy replacements are made for that reason.

What I like to see is some optional parts someone could get separately, and customize there razer arcade stick, like different control panels with a different layout or other odd design bits that people could get to repair or customize their arcade stick. I already seen Razer sells extra mouse feet for their mice and random accessories. Stuff that gives customers more customization options but also gives razer something more to market. Like how Mad Catz have optional bezel colors, dust washer and shaft cover sets and there MK panel.

Razer always have a particular style to their products with will draw in their fans and chase away their critics any ways regardless of our input
I doubt that would change.

I only want them to shift the insides around a bit. The back suface should have clearance for any custom connectors and the default pcb should be in the front of the stick. Ditch the button and bat top compartments and place PCBs there… I doubt any pro gamer has the need to constantly switch between bat and ball top. Unless you are in that undecided period, either you like a bat or like a ball.

USB A has got to go. USB B or Mini B should be the way to go.
If Razer is watching this thread.

I don’t dig seimitsu’s one bit. I’ll say it, but It’s a nice option. Nice Diagram RT!

I agree with everything you just said rtdzign, except for moving the main pcb to the front. What i’d prefer instead is a board similar to the distribution block on the TE’s, attached to the inside of the top panel, for the buttons and sticks to connect to, and a single large ribbon cable from there to the main pcb. Wiring would be TONS neater and shorter, and if they could be convinced to include a power line as well in the ribbon, would make an after market LED controller a breeze to make and install.

The front spot for the buttons and other accessories should be a large empty box, similar to that cord storage compartment. Make a removable insert if you want specifically for buttons and bat top if you want, but making the spots for buttons and battop a non-removable part of the case is a mistake, since I think you’ll see 80% of these at tournament used for holding Link tops.

Can’t wait for SteelSeries to make a stick for EG lol

Let the QDs have their own dedicated Terminal Strip!

what i have waited for is a stick that has enough space to fit korean fanta and crown parts, that would also attract tekken players

i really feel like we need a stick that accepts more than just japanese parts

i hope this will have its own thing going for it to make it unique. At the moment i see two positive things 1 being the button to open the case the other is the option to change the panel

Hurm…

Now that clear Sanwa buttons have been released, how many people will stick with PS-14-KN’s?

people who like manly buttons.

And that’s the problem. I get the impression that the majority of people only got PS-14-KN’s because they were the only option at the time for art mods. Given the choice I suspect that many would have preferred clear Sanwa’s instead.

Not… enough… men…

I actually prefer the feel of Seimitsu to Sanwa so clear Sanwa’s don’t make much of a difference to me.

I like the idea of the single plug QD’s in reality it would be better (for modding) if they could be separated. I prefer Seimitsu buttons and if I cant have them without having to void the warranty it might be a deal breaker.

They seriously need a terminal strip for the cabling as well as either color coded cables or clear markings on each cable set because I know most people will want to change the buttons to match the T.E. layout first thing.

The button and bat top holders are cool but what do you do with the ball top if you decide to use the bat top? I’ll take a compartment with a removable insert over that fixed insert like Toodles said for things like different gates, the link or secondary cables ie PS2, USB etc.

A 24mm hole for the NAUSB or other USB A to B connection would be much better than the standard USB A they have there now. I’d like to see something like a 360 break away cable with a locking mechanism built in, or just give us enough room to drill our own hole so we can install the RJ45 jack for muti console mods. I know for a fact the USB A will wiggle loose and will be a huge problem for them down the road. A removable cable is awesome but needs to be done right.

I just wonder how sturdy the sandwich construction for the top is? it looks like a plastic frame (I’d prefer metal) with a metal mounting plate and a plexi top to protect the art. That’s something I want to put to the test  If they make other button layouts in a Metal Panel\Plexi set that would be a nice feature as long as they aren’t too expensive. I’m sure if they don’t our guys will be all over that  Art templates, metal panels and plexi are our specialty.

I like the 2 buttons on the side but just not for the Back and Start buttons. I’d move those to the back of the stick and include an extra 24mm hole if one wasn’t already there for the USB. I’d make the side buttons 2 30mm with removable plugs in the side so you can have a proper 6 on top 2 on the side setup  Or if you want 8 on top but at least we wouldn’t have to void the warranty either way.

The bottom of the stick seems to be covered in a rubber grip something I actually like. It would be cool if it had a window on the bottom but it’s not necessary since the top pops open so easily. I just hope the stick has enough metal to weight it down. A metal bottom plate would be awesome.

I wonder what the stick would look like with Wooden side trim?
