The Razer Arcade Stick Thread!

Are they ever gonna let people know who got selected for next wave of testing?

Man…I’m still hanging out for this to come out…
Can’t wait to get my hands on one…I don’t like that my TE has nowhere to stash a Snickers…

What are you storing in the cable compartment, the cable?
However only the Razor provides enough room for a full-sized sub* with convenient access for taking bites between rounds.

*Depending on your definition of ā€œfull-sized.ā€ I’m pretty sure a 10" would fit.

I’m having my doubts that Razer is even going to release a quality joystick this generation considering how the new systems are launching later this year… It think it’s a bit late in this console cycle to be releasing a new design. Try after the PS4/XBox 720 and establish themselves then!

The huge quantity of recent news from Razer is defeaningly… SILENT!!!

They missed out this generation…

If they miss releasing it before EVO, PACK IT UP.

Looking forward to getting my hands on one of these.

GeorgeC might have the right idea. It’s pretty late in the game to be releasing a stick for PS3 or 360, but if the Razer stick comes out for PS4 when it launches there could* be a lot bigger marketing opportunity–even people who already own sticks may be in the market for a new one. And that would mean Q4 for seeing this stick in the wild.

*Assuming the console doesn’t bomb and games are released for it that would use a stick

Evo isn’t the begin all end all of Fighting games.

But that’s a major event, and there is always going to be people buying new sticks(for the event and for the specials). If they miss it, a lot of people won’t be willing to buy a stick for a while, and next gen(PS4, anyway) is expected for this holiday season. The Nextbox release date will most likely be close to the PS4’s date, making it too late for the stick to be a success.

That is true. Razer would essentially missing a 2nd ā€œHoliday shopping opportunityā€ for their product. Time is ticking and people want to not just their stick but all their mods and customizations done in time for the Event as well. I thought the first Beta test was fine for Retail release minus the tricky Latch. The Razer stick is one of the easiest stick to mod. You can swap buttons, remap controller and change ball tops without voiding the warranty. They release in time for Evo, let word of mouth spread on the new Razer stick, whent hey actual Holiday shopping season hits they would be a threat to the Hori, Mad Catz and Qanba stick sales.

This Razer arcade stick is my favourite factory built stick ever, despite the teething problems.

Favourite modded stick is still the Agetec though

This is very likely going to be the next-to-last major year for both the PS3 and XBox 360. (Very likely the last ā€œgoodā€ year for the 360.)

Based on what MS did last time, I wouldn’t put it past them to kill the 360 within a year of the release of the new XBox console… Of course, the fanboys will still go along with being abused by MS and led by the nose. Unless Sony really does a smash-up job in marketing and first gen software releases and convinces a huge percentage of people in the US to switch over. I am skeptical with respect to both companies – they’re both guilty of unethical practices and massaging the truth about ā€œsystem difficultiesā€ – but felt MS particularly abused the situation with the 360 manufacturing failures and took far too long to fix the console’s defective parts and heating issues. Sorry guys, but I’ve been around since the Atari 2600 days and have NEVER seen any previous OR contemporary system with such a long history of defective product. It’s usually taken a few months and NOT years to get those kinds of issues fixed!

As for Sony… As easy as it might be for them to sweep the PS3 under the rug and forget ā€œthat bad business,ā€ I don’t see them abandoning the PS3 so quickly. Besides, the PS3 isn’t doing that badly now and has recovered nicely with a library of exclusives that are nothing to sniff at… and it’s still the preferred system overseas and doesn’t give you import heartache like the 360 and Wii do. With few exceptions, every Euro- or Japanese-exclusive game runs on the American PS3 and vice-versa. The other systems can’t say the same. I appreciate that situation as someone who occasionally imports exclusive fighters and the rare excellent anime-inspired videogame; I like not having to use modchips OR swap discs to play import games! I hope Sony keeps the games open on the PS4, too.

Given the lifespans of both PS1 and PS2 (and I’m still in shock they canned PS2 production last year, 13 years or not!), the PS3 has at least 3 years left before Sony pulls the plug. Most of us will be long gone before that in the meantime and have switched over to whatever next-gen system suits our needs best… Or in many cases, just buy both.

Getting back to joysticks after that ā€œbrief departureā€ into another topic –

Of course, sales of PS4/XBox 720-Infinity-Whatever joysticks will depend on fighting games actually being available for those systems and whether or not the fighting game revival continues.

I don’t know that either Hori or Mad Catz will see sales be as good on the next gen… The game genres which DO repeat high sales cycles also go through dips as well as peaks. Keep in mind, some genres are pretty much dead in the current age (2-D shooters, anyone?) and have a very restricted hardcore audience… and those genres show no signs of ever repeating the popularity they had at their peak.

I don’t think we’ll have a repeat of 2009/2010 in terms of joystick hardware sales. It sure hasn’t seemed as crazy for the past year or two at least. You can still get sticks from 2012 fairly easily. Even the exclusives aren’t selling out as quickly as '09/'10. I don’t think, for instance, Arcade Shock would be getting Amazon.jp exclusives unless they were perhaps sitting on shelves gathering some dust… (Not that I hate this… I love some of the exclusives and appreciated not having to spend $600 to get a Hori HRAP VLX Diamond joystick! If only some of the Hori Seimitsu sticks for the PS3 made it over here…) Speculation, yes, but maybe not so far from the facts as they stand. Hori and Mad Catz aren’t saying for sure.

The current gen will probably stick around for a while, but I don’t think we’ll see much new stuff for it. A lot of games are going to be released for both this gen and next(which seems like a bad move, but I don’t know for certain how it will work out). So the PS3, at least, is here to stay.

As for game sales? I think fighting game sales will die off for a while, but the people here now are mostly here to stay. Streaming in many ways revitalized the FGC. It brought in many new members who were intrigued by the competition. Arcades died, and for a while, so did fighting games(not to say there weren’t any, but there’s a lot less being now vs. the arcade era).

People will adapt to wherever the competition may be(with some exception, as can be seen with the SFII/SFIII/Melee crowds). I think sales will still be good for the foreseeable future, but there’s a lot of profit to be missed if you release for a gen that is near replacement.

Hey guys!

I apologize for the lack of updates, but we very, very close to the launch of the new Razer Arcade Stick!

In the meantime, some of our designers got pretty excited and created some templates for his favorite game, you can have a look here at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151923815802576.1073741844.13848807575&type=1 and drop a like/comment or two.

I’m sure some of you guys will probably be interested in creating your own templates as well. We will be organizing a top panel design contest soon after the Arcade Stick launches, so that’s your chance to show off your creativity for the community to vote! Will of course keep you guys updated when the contest starts.

Thanks for the patience guys, cannot wait for the launch!

@Razer|Wrathchild
They way you guys got the community involved and how flexible you made your arcade stick made me do a 180 on my opinion about your companies products.
I wasn’t a fan of your early PC keyboards, I forgot the name of it but it had that rubbery coating on the keys that wear off and what does not come off became sticky.
But now I am seriously considering other Razer gear.

I hope the very close is close!

So what’s changed from the Beta aside from the art?

I hope that at least the hinge lock has been upgraded.
