The Razer Arcade Stick Thread!

It’s a good question. My instinct though is that Microsoft will implement a new encryption scheme since the 360’s has been broken, so no backwards compatibility.
Sony’s tougher to guess. PS3 is nice and open, but then they went around patching the firmware to try to shut out 3rd parties. That makes me suspect they may just implement some kind of encryption from the get-go this time around.

Also, isn’t Nintendo the only company with any history of backwards-compatible controllers?

my arcade stick just died on me °_° … RAZER!!! I need this nao!! holy shit no street fighter for me until that thing is released!!! oh man…

Seems like you’ll be waiting a long time. Hell, by the time this comes out your children will be playing sf8 on the ps9

aw man… I need another hobby. I’ll start knitting or something like that =/

Name me one system that isn’t compatible with PS1 pads.

Hell if I know, I’ve never owned any kind of PlayStation. That’s why I asked.

But I know PS2 controllers have wide connectors with a bunch of pins while PS3 controllers have USB connectors, so I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that PS1 controllers can’t be compatible with both systems. Maybe there are adapters (again, I don’t know), but does Sony make them? If so, it could be taken as evidence that Sony might care about backwards compatibility, but if not . . . .

PS1 pads work on PS2.

Here’s to hoping I get chosen as a beta tester as well.

I worded that wrong and meant:
Name me one system you can’t get a PS1 converter for.

Hmmmm. Mega Drive (Genesis)? Just a wild guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

There were over 150+million PS2’s sold before Sony stopped production (for most of the world) last year.

There’s just about NO SYSTEM made since 1994 that doesn’t have a PS2 adapter available for it.

All you have to do is look online… GOOGLE it and you’ll find the adapter for the system you want to use PS2 controllers on.

The stickies are above the main post section for newbies to look for information.
I’ll repeat this point again – a lot of us who have been here for a few years are getting sick of people asking the same questions again and again that have answers already in the FAQ/Stickies above. There’s a point or two to that section – A) you don’t have to be led by the hand to the answers you want; and B) we don’t have to waste more bandwidth/space on somebody asking questions that have been asked several hundred times before and have at least 50 redundant threads in existence.

And no, Sony doesn’t really care about backwards compatibility. Neither do the other two console manufacturers. The only people who care about this are stingy gamers, retro-gamers in love with 15-20 year-old controllers, and companies that supply adapter cables. I repeat: the first-party companies DON’T care. They want you to buy new systems and spend money on new controllers. Many consumers will be led by the nose and fall for the gimmicks… Hell, 90+million Wii’s were sold despite the fact that system has one of the shittiest software libraries in existence. There’s a reason why Nintendo had a hundred-and-fifty million controllers released for the Wii and why Sony and MS followed suit with their own motion-control devices and had a bunch of third-party licenses for joysticks and other types of controllers. They make a hell of a lot more money that way.

Personally, I wasn’t bothered much by the prices of joysticks this past generation. You can find good deals online for them and don’t have to pay full MSRP. Even GameStop slashes prices on sticks 33% or more after a few months. What was more galling to me were the $45+ prices on the wireless/Blue Tooth rechargeable control pads. There’s no way MS or Sony couldn’t buy the batteries in bulk and save the consumer some money!!! That’s highway robbery.

Rumors are flying about continuation/discontinuation of current PS controller standards. We won’t really find out a lot about that system until maybe later this month… It’s all rumors right now, and it will probably continue to be rumors until we actually see the console on store shelves. (I’m waiting a year after PS4 release and WON’T buy a first-production console. I’ve had it with overheating systems and faulty circuitry. NEVER again!!!)

You could use controllers as far back as the PS1 era with a simple USB adapter on the PS3. That probably won’t be the case for the PS4; I highly doubt PS3 games will play on that system, either.

That will probably be true for the next XBox system just because MS likes your money like any other company out there.

I’ve been following game consoles and the gaming industry longer than many of you here have been alive.
My gaming days go back to the Odyssey 2 and Atari 2600. (Frankly dislike the 2600; wasn’t crazy about it in 1980/1981, either.) I’ve played with/owned a large chunk of the gaming systems since then…

Believe me when I say there are distinct patterns and a method to the madness and greed of these companies. Rarely surprises me now…

Back to the Razer questions –

When IS this joystick being released???

For that matter, what’s up with the next round of test-sticks???

We’re late in the game here, and it’s very likely MS and Sony WILL release their new systems late this year…

You need to release that PCB container + PCB in kit form.

Is that PCB box taken from a VLX?

Yes… yes it is…

Good stuff.<div><br></div><div>The only things that concern me are the Datel ArcadePro / Paewang USB cable (having used them a lot myself I suspect they’re poor quality) and the way that USB jack is taped down!</div><div><br></div><div>I’m sure the useless mini screwdriver is missing its home…</div>

very awesome!<br>

I was actually trying to find a black usb without the breakaway cable in my house… no such luck :(<br>And that usb jack isn’t actually taped down.  Its got an aluminum bracket to hold it in place.  the tape is there to make it look black and match the stick<br>

Not a fan of MS enforced breakaway cables myself.<div><br></div><div>Would putting some braided sleeving around the cable be an option?</div>

Disagreeing because you could have just painted it.
