The Razer Arcade Stick Thread!

how many buttons does the Scott Pilgrim game use?

Either two or four. D:

I use a fightstick obv for my fighting games but there are a few arcade games which are playable with a fightstick which can also make it more fun imo though i realise its not for everyone, scott pilgrim being one of them, it may not be as easy but its more fun. also i was able to beat bayonetta on the hardest diff using a fightstick lol >< you can even play guitar hero 3 with one  me and some mates took a button each and spent a while trying to do through the fire and the flames but it didnt go so great :/. Still razer could maybe ship with a few faceplates i was thinking, like the 8 button 6 button and MK layout, that way they cover the basics of fighting games and can appeal to everyone, after all if they want it easily modable it would make sence to add easy changeable face plates / plexi’s like that?

You can play with 3or 7 depending on your config… I think we should expect an eight button config as people who want 6 will still have 6 buttons to use; whereas people who want eight would be missing two if six were used. I think the bat-top compartment is a good idea as sometimes multiple people may play on the same stick with different preferences, having storage for different gates would be handy too. Definitely should have a detachable cable as it is much easier to replace if damaged. I don’t know it looks like a pretty solid design for a proto-type, I am sure there will be plenty of changes after the Beta; however they are still a business and have to make a profit and I am sure certain things will have to be sacrificed in order for them turn a profit as I am sure their marketing division has already set a price point for this thing

As far as the 6 buttons vs 8 thing is concerned; 8 allows one to use the left six for Japanese style, right 6 for a more American style, and Top 4 for a more SNK like style. 6 buttons allows only one style. For a massed produced premium stick, more options makes more sense.

Lol What?!

Awesome idea, its ether 3 button Arcade Stick or a Sega Saturn Pad.

Its the reason I hate the term “Fight Stick”.

They should.

That’s the best business sense possible in this case. Madcatz succeeded with their sticks partly (not fully) because of this. Laugh is following suit with the Omni. Locking a customer into one button is madness. Sure, we veterans can either recrimp or solder directly, but not everyone’s going to have a crimper or an iron around.

I got my first fight/arcade stick at the time bayonetta was released and i had allready completed it once, my friend said i would only use the stick for sf and wouldnt get my moneys worth (how wrong was he i use it daily  ) so he asked me if i could do a normal game with it, luckily bayonetta only uses the left stick and adjusts the camera really well actually, so i didnt need the right stick, it took some getting used to but i beat bayonetta on non stop climax with a mad catz TE

I like to play Pac-man, Dokey Kong and some other classics on a Stick.
Pad does not do it justice.

I also played Legend of Zelda with a stick.

Calling an arcade stick a “Fight Stick” is alot like calling a paper photo copy a Xerox.
Both are incorrect terms, your using brand names in place of the items actual name.

I played Final Fantasy XIII with iBUKI (my HRAP).

Spoiler

I also use it to play movies, via XBMC.

That’s not what Razer wants:

So you’re saying that Razer wants nobodies to apply just to get a free stick?

It’s up to Razer to decide who they pick. It’s not anyone’s place to tell people if they should apply or not.

It’s there in black in white, it is by no means an exclusive sign up! If anything I would think that they would be looking for input from a broad range of gamers, there’s more money to be made by targeting the full segment rather than a niche within a niche.

Off course Razer will screen. But do you really want to clog up their inbox with applications from folks who may not be the best people to beta test this?

It was bound to happen anyway. Once people started telling their friends about it, once it got on sites like Joystiq, Kotaku, et al, the screening process was going to be a nightmare.

I’m sure the demand is going to be overwhelming, but I have no doubt that the people they choose will be mostly good for the position. Besides, we have at least two people who will be able to provide awesome beta testing, which might actually be enough to make a really solid product and are almost guaranteed to get one.
