The Power of U2: SSF4 Rose Match-up Thread

just wondering, can i punish a blocked flash kick with u1? u2 is not doing me any good in this matchup at ALL.

U2 against Guile is more a way to get him in the corner where he sucks, instead of doing reversals or combos.

U2 has more options in Guile.

  1. It times out.
  2. It gets you out of the corner, he can actually pressure corner strings.
  3. since it’s a fireball battle, you get like 7 per game lololololol.
  4. It works the same as how U1 works, since you block a flash kick, activate it, cr fierce spiral, it does the same damage.
  5. When he does sonic hurricane while you’re knocked down, you can activate U2, and jump out of it.
  6. if you’re playing a good guile, time outs happen like a lot, so be wary

Rose vs Guile

I played 100 games with a decent guile this weekend… Here are some things i noticed

ROSE CAN DOWN BACK BETTER THAN GUILE!.. lol I found this hilarious as he is supposed to be the db king…

Reflects kill alot of his offensive as guiles like to walk behind their projectiles and destroy you… use HP reflect sometimes incase they get jumpy and you can tag them sometimes. Never both with EX reflect unless like me after a while you smell them coming and do it on prediction as reaction never works

Soul Throw… weird but alot of the times in catches guiles crossups if done rreeaally late it would throw him reeallly low…

In pokes rose his to be careful but she wins… st.mk kills his crouching mk and lk… it can also be done as a sure way to interrupt his sweep if you have been getting tagged when doing mp spiral in between… which when you get accostomed to is not that bad…

When he jumps you can jump at him and kill any jump in attack except sometimes a jumping roundhouse but you can do that if you do J.HP really early… the only thing that will beat that is a well timed air throw… God i hate that move after a while

His crouching strong kills you in footsies when a guile figures that out it goes to hell… you have to tag it’s recovery with a cr.mp… really difficult or lp soul spiral it

Goto blockstrings… lp,lk,mp,drill gets a good ole flask kick
lp,lp,lk,mp,lk drill doesn’t… use it to bait out a flash kick and punish.
lp,lp,lk,mp,mk baits out any low attack and tags it good from that angle

Don’t focus close SB’s ever but that’s a no brainer you’ll get backfisted to hell

AFTER YOU DO A SPIRAL KNOCKDOWN TAKE A FEW STEPS BACK TO CROSSUP W/O WHIFFING IT…

You’ll get the spacing eventually because you have the place where you can take one more step and you will get a fake cross up… but only use after training them for the real crossup or you’ll get flashkicked!

Ummm what’s left jumping early HP as a cross up works reaally well and I enjoy using it as they never know what side it’s going to hit and it makes flashkicks whiff…

Oh yeah learn the jump in timing for where J.HP stuffs a flashkick after a while i had free jump ins because he would get stuffed and get a combo…

For guile it’s definantly an uphill battle and I hope this stuff helps somewhat…:woot:

Going air to air with Guile looks like suicide? I wonder why you propose that as AA, or is it only for ranges where C HP would not hit?

This is sometimes when he is going for a far jump in and you want to zone him out… a J.HP done early beats almost everything and sometimes they are not expecting it and get tagged by it… good to do sometimes

I was wondering if U1 would be of any use in this match-up, and I would imagine that it would be hard due to the fast recovery of his Sonic Boom, unless he attempts to jump. I think you can punish a blocked flash kick with U1, but I would test it out in Training Mode. Normally in this match-up, I always go for U2. Anton listed some of the utilities it has in that match-up.

U1 can be used in this matchup but if we’re talking high level play, why bother when U2 puts Guile in a more worse situation he’s going to be in? When will Guile ever jump towards you when you’re stocked on Ultra, have reflects, and a projectile just as slow as his?

The fact that a Guile whom is good on positioning and spacing can simply time a cr.jab and completely knock out the orbs completely and still be in frame advantage is something to think about when using U2 against him.

Something I’ve been trying to do is work U2 into combos ala c.HP xx spark FADC. This is where U2 is the moneymaker in my opinion. It’s obviously good for gimmick mix-ups, but the guaranteed damage you can get from a combo based on that setup is no joke. Some good resets too.

Also if Guile whiffs a flash kick, or you block it just right out of range for him to FADC, that’s basically a setup for the max damage punish. I think U1 can punish whiffed flash kick, but that’s all you can do with U1 aside from focus crumple and a jump. U2 at least gives you a reason to get in there.

That’s definitely a combo worth learning. The damage is ridiculous on that.

Adon; what do I do? Especially the crazy jumpy ones who like to jaguar kick.

Take u1, soul throw the HK one, slide under the LK one. Abuse of soul spark at the beginning of the round with the variation of speed, it’s very important to build meter when he can’t punish your spark with his EX JK. If you see adon do his jaguar dunno (the thing where he jumps at the wall), just do U1 or neutral jump hp in prevention.

Never try to crossup him after a KD, he wakes up faster. Also, be cautious about his weird crossup/fake crossup to clk.Try to punish his whiffed st hk with cmp. Dont abuse of spiral, Adon can punish it clean with clp srk.

I’ll have to play against GamerBee tomorrow, big tourney in Paris, I hope that what i said above will work. lol.

lol well not as in professionals taking recordings but the adon/rose matchup in high level play. I dont think i’ve ever seen this before. If im playing well against ryder’s abel and having problems against ryder’s adon =/, then this is an issue i hope is addressed when this match is recorded.

I have a few quick simple questions.

On which characters should you use U1? I personally can only think of Blanka, maybe Boxer as well.

How to you counter Guy’s command air throw? I got spammed pretty badly by it the other day and I can’t figure out how to escape it.

The same goes for Ibuki’s kunai crossup on wakeup, is it always random on which side it’s going to hit or can you actually always find a way to block it?
