The Power of U2: SSF4 Rose Match-up Thread

Slide underneath burning kicks. Most Vipers don’t even really play footsies but obviously cr.mp is good. After a blocked mp thunder knuckle you can beat any non-invincible followup with cr.mp. You can get away with a lot of soul throws when she goes for super jumps and such. On her wakeup Viper is very vulnerable to jump-in option selects - I would expect EX Spiral to beat or be safe against all her reversals. I think U2 might be really good as a reversal against BK options. Just anti-air her and poke with stuff with quick recovery. And then you can get away with a lot of stuff on her wakeup. Take note of which reversals they like to do - if they like to EX Seismo then you can neutral jump on their wakeup for a jump-in combo.

Soul throw is your best friend in viper matches. Teach the player they can’t jump around you for free without thought. Once you have them on the ground, play the footsie game. Be weary of seismos if you’re throwing out sparks. (don’t need to be sparking too much in this match anyway.) U2 in this matchup since Viper will do SJCs on your knockdown most of the time. (along with constant Burn Kicks on your knockdown in the corner at times.) This is one of the few matches you can abuse cl.MK on their wakeup. Mainly when they have meter and are expecting a EX Seismo.

Someone just made a thread on the boxer matchup so i’d hit it up and read through some of the tips/info.

as for Sim, i’m moreso still learning it. U2 here also. (sim can’t teleport behind you when they’re out and can’t push buttons for long limbs without caution.) I do a lot of focus baiting in both Rog/Sim matches (Rog to catch possible Dash punch/upper, Sim for the limbs.) The focusing on Sim’s limbs are mainly to close the distance. If you’re constantly running into sim’s pokes, don’t be afraid to sit across the screen and figure out what he’s doing so you can make your approach. Sparks help out a bit in this match along with Reflects. Just don’t get too spark/reflect happy since sims will catch on and start teleporting behind you or throw out some limbs.

That’s about most I can give on the sim match.

random info dump:

Vs Gen. Reversal Gekirou (all versions) will whiff if you meaty c.mk after any knockdown. free punish!! (stuffs all other reversals. hands?)

this could lead to counterhit then you can confirm with c.mp, drill. (CH combo).

backthrow, wait, jump mk OS U1. beats all. (you can use u2 as well, u1 for mega damage)

:shy:

Can someone quickly tell me who Rose’s “Basic stradegy?” is?

lol wahhh!? this is gold

I don’t know if this match-up has been throughly discussed as of yet, but what should be my general gameplan if I’m facing El Fuerte, especially if he has U2 stocked? I know it is a 3f grab, but since it is, that would make blocked Spirals and Sparks very risky, wouldn’t it? I’m not too sure if you could FADC and escape out of the Ultra’s horizontal range in time. I’ll go into Training Mode and test that.

With a safe spiral u’ll be able to dodge is u2 (ofc not if he did it before the spiral hit), dunno about spark, i never use it when he have ultra at mid range. I just rush him with couple of normals and play with clk~clk~…~ st mk

Don’t worry about your frame disadvantage on spark/spiral block. More likely Fuerte would use U2 the same as an uppercut. Maybe use MK/HK instead of either when he gets it. Dunno for sure, but I imagine those would be able to avoid the grab. Maybe Rose’s blocked sweep is even Fuerte U2 punishable. I wish people still (ever) played Fuerte so I could know these things.

hehehe. im in favor of using U1 vs Viper. (reminds me of vanilla :wgrin:)

that backthrow jump hp OS U1. beats all wakeup options. (if you dont have revenge then use OS sweep)

i have tested it many times vs a friend who mains viper. he said that Ultra flash eats EX Feint input.

You basically want to get within CR.MP range, that way you can link it into LK spirals and start dashing in-and-out. Mix that up with her DF MK slide into throws and that’s it. Use CR.FP>FK Spiral as a punish. Use the LP Spark as a projectile, and you can of course turtle against fireballers with Reflect. Rose is one character that can actually force Guile to be offensive, just as an example. Use U2 if you’re getting rushed on wake-up. I started her only days ago and this is what I’ve been doing so far.

This is directed towards the THawk matchup…I noticed when he does condor spiral the jumping towards one, if you block a badly spaced one or block it in general, Rose can punish using standing heavy kick…The foot just touches THawk when he lands…Not sure if this was said already…I just wanted to point it out…

You can punish T.Hawk for almost anything he does. You can punish any blocked condor dive on reaction with a f+hk, hk spiral or ultra 1. Rose has better pokes, faster foot speed, better specials and has an answer for just about anything T.Hawk can throw her way. Rose is a very bad match up for T.Hawk.

agreed its one of those broken matchups (like Dhalsim vs Ryu and Cammy vs Dhalsim)

i think Guy is Free as well.

Rose: 7-3

whats the best way to test this in training mode to make sure you’re doing it correctly

skip to 6:11 to get the general basis of it against viper. Basically have Rose as the 2p/CPU. Back throw, jump in with j.HP and input the command for whichever Ultra you have. Then run it back and have viper do EX seismo/EX Burn kick.

Playing with rose online can be annoying with the lag

training:

  • choose viper, p2 choose rose
  • put recording on rose to do:

backthrow, wait, jump hp (during hp attack input qcf, qcf+3p), combo

  • put rose to “play back”
  • with viper test your wakeup options (EX BK, EX seismo, backdash, hp knuckle)

result:

  • on hit and block = backthrow, j.hp, combo
  • on whiff/reversal = backthrow, j.hp (whiff), u1

^nice, ill test that when i get home from work today

I’m getting trolled hard by these online giefs
