The Power of U2: SSF4 Rose Match-up Thread

Good for you.

Of course it is. All I’m saying is that there are reasons to pick U1 in the matchup, as not all people have great reactions regardless of age, and that I prefer it in this match. It’s not necessarily about punishing something they do, but more about taking away a tool (in this case, the Blanka ball) from them.

What Renegade said makes a lot of sense, though. By the way, I tried punishing up balls on hit and it seemed to work from several distances.

U1 is always a fair pick against Blanka. If he’s not approaching you, then you’ve got the means to zone him, especially if you’re willing to FADC a spark.

If he’s approaching you without charge, then you can still zone him with normals. His most likely options for getting in/damaging you without charge are slide (punishable on block with U1), jump (narrow arc, likely punishable with U1) and his command hop which is risky, but probably most safe to U1.

Don’t think that you need to “keep blanka out” though, from the start to the end of a match. Rose’s own up close options are good when he doesn’t have meter. Also by being up close, you can bait Blanka to waste his meter just to get away from pressure, which can be a great opportunity for landing U1.

I usually just pick Boxer vs Blanka. He’s better than Rose’s ultra 1 and 2

That’s helpful.

That’s very true. :).

But real talk, I’m semi-trolling, and I’m semi-not trolling.

I’m goddamn sure that U2 is the better ultra in this match up, but I wanna see you guys backup U1 =)

I’d agree U2 is still best against most good blankas, as they can play around the U1 and avoid what would normally need to be pretty obvious punish windows.

If the blanka is good, he is going to pile on the pressure. So you may really need the get-off-me effect of U2

I’ve been grinding the match and I still think you’re on crack when you guys say it’s easy for rose I think it’s one of her harder matches. Harder than bison and rog but easier than Honda cammy. And yeah u1 is still the way to go I don’t like u2 in this matchup cause you’ll be chasing him alot and you need big damage off any small window of opportunity you get.

lol. who said it’s easy? I don’t think Rose has any real advantaged matches by default. it’s all in the player’s hands.

And yeah, the day I don’t have to chase a Blanka around, is the day that I pick U2 against him. U1 requires a lode of patience to use no doubt, but as long as there’s time on the clock, don’t feel like you should throw it out at any sign of a jump or blanka ball.

Oh and if Blanka picks U2, you will be FORCED to approach him, just as Rose picking U1 forces Blanka to play less “standard”. The match favors whoever has a life lead at that point.

Well I mean you guys consistently argue it’s 5 5 when I don’t think it’s the case that’s what I mean by easy lol

I still struggle with Rog. I don’t see how some people think this match is in Rose’s favor.

its not. its hard to take anyone’s word on these forums.

I personally know it’s not. I have a few convos with a friend in Ohio who really thinks it’s in Rose’s favor even after I tell him how it’s not.

Rose is 5-5 across the board barring like 7 bad match ups.

Sorry for the noob question, but can someone elaborate on how to use frame traps to catch jab spam / crouch tech spammers? I know the basic concept of frame traps, but I’m not exactly sure on how to apply them in these situations with rose.

Let’s say they block my jump in/crossup and I follow up with c.LP, c.LK…do I just pause slightly and c.LP again?

c.LP isnt technically the best choice, honestly i dont know what is O_o, i only ever do a cr.mp after a spaced drill, but im looking for something along the lines of balrogs cl.HK or adons cl.HP

I usually frame trap with attacks that can be used for counter hit combos. like near MK, crouch MK, far MK. more often than not I block on player’s wake up unless they have bad reversals, or are really conditioned for a tick throw.

In that instance I would say probably say either close MK or take a slight step back and do standing MK (this will also go over lows, so if they are crouch teching and stick out a short, it should just whiff).

So you do far MK (counterhit), cr.MP, ex drill? Never tried that.

Does anyone have any tips for Zangief? I fought a good Zangief player, and I was just being destroyed left and right. I tried doing the retreating method with the projectiles, and I noticed that it only put me in the corner. After that, I tried spacing him out with her normals, with minimal projectile use. That didn’t work out very well, and he still managed to get in. Does Zangief’s j.FP lose to Rose’s c.FP? On wake-up, I lose to all kinds of things. When I use EX Soul Spiral, I lose to his Lariat and EX Green Hand. If I backdash, I lose to EX Green Hand. Is her only wake-up option is jump back? His damage output is insane, and considering Zangief has 1100 compared to Rose’s 950, that only makes the match-up more difficult. Personally, I like using Chun against Zangief now. Her standing roundhouse is godly against him.

Uh…switch to Chun lol. No, but seriously, I don’t care what the tier list says or whatever, Gief beats Rose at least 6-4. Rose can’t keep a good Gief out for shit once he gets an EX meter. And once you get knocked down…game over. Even Satellite barely helps. Best you can hope for is to try to keep him out the entire game, and make sure you catch him off guard. Let Gief fall into a groove or rhythm and you’re muffed.

You could use U1 if your reaction time is really good to catch his jumps, or to easily punish whiffed Lariats, but…it’s up to you.
