The Power of U2: SSF4 Rose Match-up Thread

I tried it in Training Mode, and it seems Guile can punish my HK spiral on block with Flashkick, no matter what the distance. Unless I’m doing it wrong somehow?

Wow, seems like spiral pressure is really important in this matchup.

This may have been answered already and if so sorry, but why U1?

To punish jump ins and cannon strikes.

Meh.

@ Guile match-up.

Fun fun. Try your best to keep it a fireball war. Bait for a counter hit when he gets in and watch for a flash kick. Keep him in the corner. While guile is walking forward, he has no charge, remember that.

I use U2 since if this match takes forever and a good Rose and a good Guile will mostly end on time out so that 12 seconds of “I can’t jump in on you” WILL come in handy.

yup, there is something wrong with your test protocol. I just tested the same thing, guile can punish only close hk spiral.
for your frame data question, in theory guile can only punish the spiral if it hit in the first active frame( a 4 frame move can punish a -4 move). in practice that’s a lot of case ( there is a lot more distance that will hit on the first frame than the second)

Easily my worst matchups are claw/chun, and both are blank on the first page, haha.

I feel like I lose both these matches the same way- I get smothered by pokes and walked to the corner. All I really know about this matchup-

Chun- FA Hazan Shu for combos, DON’T try to FA or backdash jump ins due to the two hit OS (can i c.HP all her jump ins? I swear I’ve had j.HK beat me out once…), i lose footsies vs her and i can’t throw fireballs at most ranges without getting pegged by Hazan Shu/U2. And her dash is so fast anyways that it’s easy for her to FA> Dash in and press me. If I ever win vs her it’s generally because of a few lucky FA crumples vs. Hazan Shu or c.HK. It seems like reflect fireballs would be a good idea vs her thanks to her super floaty jump, but I’m totally scared to do it because of how easy it is for her to walk forward after her fireball and c.HK/some other high priority poke. It seems like it’s just always a guessing game of when/when not to FA versus her, and I generally don’t know how I can/if I can actually take control of the match.

Vega- FA beats wall dive but loses to wall throw mixup, jump back HP beats wall mixups but loses to Sky High Claw. I absolutely cannot beat any of his pokes and his wall game perpetually feels like a mixup in his favor. All I know is is that he’s fragile like I am, if I actually block Sky High/Barcelona Attack I get a punish, and that I need to somehow score a lucky knockdown since all he has reversal wise, I guess, is EX Scarlet Terror? Fireballs also feel useless here. I don’t know if I’ve ever won this matchup, lol.

So those are my problems! Any help is appreciated, haha.

i have been using rose lately i just had a set against Adon:

Slide > Adon

correct spacing he cant even focus it!

heheheh

Di,

slide doesnt beat adon if he does RH jaguar kick, youll just slide into him and get real sad.

If Adon is using focus against Rose, he is trash.

So recently I’ve been playing Bisons that activate U2 after they knock me down and I can’t seem to get out of it. As soon as Rose gets up, she gets hit. The only way I can think of to avoid it is to quick get up. It can be grabbed with Illusion Spark of course, but since Psycho Punisher’s distance can be adjusted, he could end up behind me or in front of me. But I can’t even remember if they did it after a throw which obviously, you can’t get up quickly from. Since his U2 can hit you if you are off the ground, it’s no use jumping… Any help would be nice!

I’m pretty sure you can block it high. You just have to know which side he’s going to be on.

What? Are you serious? You can actually block his U2? Why did I think I couldn’t?

Idk, stop doing stuff during it. Unless you’re caught doing Spark (or apparently cl.MK) it’s insanely easy to avoid.

You can block Bison’s U2, but you have to know where he’s going to land in advance. It’s mainly used as the same set-up as a cross-up, so you’re going to have to guess correctly. Guess incorrectly, and you know the result. Generally against Bison users that have U2, you don’t want to use Soul Spark too much, unless you could safely FADC out of it.

He obv. said on wake up.

Just block opposite the direction he lands. >.>

Yeah, I, uh… Didn’t know it could even be blocked… I don’t know why.

I know how to avoid getting caught by it for the most part… But the thing is I was trying to avoid being around it at all when he landed. haha

Honda tips? I have no idea why I keep wanting to bait out headbutts when I can’t punish with anything unless I do U1 on reaction before he hits.

Question about fighting Akuma: Can any of Rose’s normals beat out his U1? I ask this because I just fought an Akuma and I threw out a cr.mp to poke but he did his Super demon. I was expecting to get obliterated but the cr.mp beat it out so I was wondering if the same can be done for his Ultra? If not I’ll continue to jump over it.

From what I just tested so far, s.MK and s. HK work. I tried c.MP, but he was still able to use U1. I think the timing is a bit more strict for that move.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of testing it for myself. My laziness took over me I guess. Anyway, I have tested it and she can punish it with:

Standing: MP, HP, MK, HK, F+HK
Crouching: MP, HP

The timing is pretty tight for all of them except for s.MK, s.HK, and s.HP. I’m not sure how viable this would be in a fight but it’s something to consider. After a cr.mp you could follow up with soul spiral.

Distance is also a huge factor to consider as well. The more closer Akuma is when he executes his U1, the more strict the timing will be. I would advise using s.HK, as I found it the easiest to punish with (from a far distance).
