The Political Thread 2021

@TheDoctaMario

Wait this tweet is May 2020, come on man. Twitter was letting craziness fly free most of last year and no one was getting banned.

You mean the left ideology, right?

That was just one example, there are plenty of others that arenā€™t vague at all.

That they would change their TOS just to be able to ban more people they donā€™t like is kindaā€¦weird, donā€™t you think? Even so, calls to violence have always been against the TOS as far as Iā€™m aware, and Iā€™ve been using twitter since about 2012.

Like I said before, as far as Iā€™m aware, threats/calls to violence have not been ok on Twitter as long as Iā€™ve been a member, but for some reason, if the calls to violence are in the context of the correct events, then itā€™s ok apparently. I mean, I barely use social media anymore, but stuff like this just solidifies my decision. I used to talk politics with people on there years ago and granted it was like beating my head against the wall, but the way things are now, Iā€™d probably have been getting modded and I wasnā€™t posting anything that was really much different from what I post here, although I was probalby more left wing in those days.

I thought this was pretty funny though: As Predicted: Parler Is Banning Users It Doesn't Like | Techdirt Itā€™s a bunch of leftists who joined Parler and got banned and are salty af about it.

Against TOS but definitely not followed up on during the year 2020.

This was the same site that had the dead libs tweet circulate for a week. Tweets talking bout civil war and building militias go with zero consequences.

Trump himself retweeting white power and other fucked up nonsense.

They changed policy and finally cracked down, good.

Twitter modding was never heavy handed and if youā€™re some nobody with a small amount of followers they mostly donā€™t give a shit.

If itā€™s against the TOS, why is it only NOW that they decide to follow up on it? Obviously it wasnā€™t that big a deal when people were calling to burn cities down and shoot cops, but all the sudden itā€™s of the utmost importance that they crack down on people for it?

I think itā€™s because the President used it to whip his followers into a frenzy that lead to them sacking the Capitol.

Itā€™s their platform to moderate as they see fit. :eyes:

Hell they had to let the president and many others run censure free with it culminating into the bum fuck Jan 6th shenanigans.

Maybe they donā€™t want that shit tied to their image and since they can give Trump the boot without legal consequences, it was time others got their teeth kicked in too.

Legit had Linwood and other wack jobs talking bout firing squads and hanging the VP lol. Normal shit isnā€™t whatā€™s getting people banned.

If Iā€™m being honest, Iā€™m disappointed Trump got kicked off Twitter. I always looked forward to hate-reading his Tweets and laughing at some of the ridiculous shit he said. Fuck, that shit was ENTERTAINING

I really donā€™t get this.

Itā€™s cool to refuse service to gays for a cake, but get banned for posting bullshit and freedoms are getting stepped on. :joy:

Let me hop on parler or Patriot.win saying Biden did win.

Bet my account gets Thanos snapped.:eyes:

I think itā€™s sad weā€™ve gotten to a point where we care who is and isnt banned from stupid ass Twitter.

We have failed as a society.

Recent events. Plural. Not a single instance. Dumb shit slid for too long from both sides.

And donā€™t forget this happened before to lefties

That argument didnā€™t work for Parler :man_shrugging:

Same. The Republican primaries and 2016 election had some absolute comedy GOLD coming from him :joy:

Far as Iā€™m aware, the court decision about the cake thing was based on religious beliefs, just like I said earlier if you were to go to a Muslim food spot and get mad that they wouldnā€™t cook you pork chops, chances are they couldnā€™t be compelled to because itā€™s against their religious beliefs.

What recent events besides the Capitol riots?

And as for that articleā€¦

The mass suspension of accounts linked to the Occupy movement comes as Twitter steps up efforts to clean up its platform. The company has reportedly suspended 1,500 accounts over the past week that were suspected of being run by members of pro-Trump 4chan members masquerading as liberal activists, according to anonymous source speaking to The New York Times.

So it wasnā€™t so much leftists as what they suspect were Trump people pretending to be leftists.

Who was hosted by Amazon wtf.

Recently, weā€™ve seen a steady increase in this violent content on your website, all of which violates our terms

They signed the agreement and before Amazon took them down it was the Wild West with wacko shit getting posted. Linwood and Powell set up shop talking bout rounding up senators and other officials for a fucking firing squad lol. Pelosi and pence getting hung etc.

Even Parler and other right leaning sites are telling their communities to chill with the bullshit because of legal consequences.

Iā€™m not even sure what your stance is at this point. No one wants that kind of content on their platform.

That would just lead to big social media to shut down all discussions and only allow pre-screened messages that they know canā€™t lead to potential lawsuits. Smaller websites as well may become vulnerable to frivolous lawsuits and be forced into preventive extremely strict moderation to the point will have to speak in politically correct for real if they want to talk at all on US based websites.

Social media is in desperate demand for regulation, but repealing 230 and let anyone sue Twitter and Facebook for the stuff any random idiot can say at any moment will simply lead to big tech to shut things down, make the internet more restrictive and call it a day.

ā€¦ Either that or flee outside of the United States where the law shouldnā€™t be able to follow them, which is fine by me as far as Iā€™m concerned.

Context matters here and I think youā€™re missing it. In my example, I am comparing one person with very little influence (6K followers) who had a tweet go massively viral during a time of unrest last year to Trump, a man with millions of followers and the president of the United States. Itā€™s comparing a firecracker to a nuclear bomb in terms of influence. Twitter random and Trump are not the same in terms of influence and the severity of their words. One had a viral tweet, the other was essentially viral 24/7 and was spreading problematic content on Twitter for years. This isnā€™t ā€œwhat about Trumpā€, this is showing one of the biggest violators of Twitter TOS got banned. Itā€™s the prime example and part of the crux of your argument that Twitter is being biased. Like others pointed out, what happened on January 6th was the catalyst of Twitter cracking down on its rules because years of right wing extremism finally reached a point where a direct attack on democracy happened that left people dead and injured. Do you not view what happened on January 6th significant at all? Genuine question.

Furthermore, I did not say Cruz, Hawley, or Gaetz should be banned. I pointed them out as examples of fanning the flames yet they still remain on the platform, countering your point about Twitter being biased against conservatives. If Twitter was so biased, they would probably have been removed already, yet they still remain, probably because theyā€™ve been able to skirt the rules enough to not get banned.

Below is an example of my earlier point. Itā€™s not that Twitter is biased against conservatism, itā€™s that conservatism has a problem with racism, xenophobia, violence, and dangerous misinformation. If the GOP could clean that up, this wouldnā€™t be a problem.

The fuck am I reading?!

When have the truth and knowing the difference between Fact and Opinion became Partisan?
If itā€™s a political issue at all the Right Wing dove off the deep end of Crazy and keep on spreading misinformation and absurdly abuse their power.

Keeping facts straight and knowing the difference between FACTS AND OPINIONS should of been Bipartisan from the Start, but Republicans are so fucking deep in the Trump Kool-aid that they donā€™t even know they are swimming in it right now.

My stance is transparency and consistency. I definitely understand and support telling people who are posting violent or racist stuff to calm their tits or gtfo, but the problem with Twitter is that itā€™s usually only enforced when itā€™s someone who doesnā€™t subscribe to the prevailing ideology of the site, hence them banning all the Trumpers but not people like Linda Sarsour.
