They should, but they won’t unless someone that can take it away from them tells them they have to.

Pencilero made a good point:

They’re protected by the US government to do what they’re doing right now.

I’m not standing up for Twitter, I’m just saying that they aren’t the root of the problem.

Cool, can’t wait till the talking heads use this as another chance to talk about Trump.

Right wing people get banned for saying similar things that leftists do a lot of the time, it’s just that their ideology isn’t the prevailing one on the platform. Not to say there aren’t some right wingers that deserve bans for saying bad things, but there are a lot of cases where the moderators or other members try to make it seem like someone said something racist when it isn’t the case, and there is a lot of pressure from lobbying groups like Hope Not Hate to ban people and social media companies buckle because it’s not worth the fight in their minds.

If this weren’t a partisan issue then Parler and Gab wouldn’t exist. But it is, and they do.

Oh, I meant in terms of other monopolies and anticompetitive corporations. Sorry, conversational drift. Insofar as technology companies go, outside of having a massive douchechill CEO - Twitter hasn’t gone around buying out the competition IIRC.

Perhaps what is happening here is a culmination of right wing extremism and misinformation boiling over into the realm of action and consequences. It seems like conservatives are being punished for having opinions, but when said opinions are rooted in misinformation being pushed by highly influential people lead to violence and an attack on democracy, ignoring these opinions is dismissive at best and absolutely dangerous at worst. We already saw what happened on January 6th that was a result of fervent misinformation. The riot at the US Capitol building was the catalyst to all this. Had that not happened, I’m very certain there wouldn’t have been a crackdown like there is now and conservative “opinions” would still be allowed to skirt the rules. It’s important to note that wide spread election fraud is objectionably false yet was made a partisan issue by the GOP. If there aren’t consequences to these actions, they will continue to get worse, evident by what happened on January 6th.

Parler and Gab exist because being racist, xenophobic, violent, and spreading misinformation about the election are generally not allowed on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. I would assume most people agree what is listed above are considered bad, undesirable opinions that society at large shuns. If being pro-racism, pro-xenophobia, pro-violence, and anti-democracy is mostly belonging to the conservative sphere, then yes, Facebook and Twitter are “leftist” in nature because they are against. Perhaps the issue isn’t partisan at all and rather those thoughts shouldn’t be allowed to be spread on social media. It’s only made a partisan issue because conservatism has become rife with it.

Twitter: “We’re all about combating misinformation and promoting information based on science.”

Also Twitter: “If you don’t agree that there are 10 genders, that police are committing genocide against black people, and that everyone who voted for Trump is a racist, you’re getting banned.”

You can’t tell me that if a right winger had posted the exact same thing, they wouldn’t have gotten tossed. There are soooo many examples of people posting violent and dangerous rhetoric on Twitter, but because they’re the right ideology, nothing happens to them. Again, all I want is for Twitter to be up front and honest about their policies. That’s it.

You can be reductionist about it if you want, but reductionism is part of the reason why Trump got elected in the first place. Maybe folks want to try a different strategy so we don’t end up with someone even worse?

You’re using whataboutism for a 6k follower user’s post from last year that went viral versus someone like Trump that had 3M+ followers, constantly broke Twitter TOS despite many warnings of inciting violence and spreading misinformation, and incited a riot that directly attacked the US election process that also got people hurt and killed. This is false equivalency.

Another counter-point: people like Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Matt Gaetz are still allowed on social media, despite being some of the biggest enablers to misinformation that lead to the US Capitol riot. Despite their contributions, they are still allowed on Twitter and Facebook. If what you said was true, they would have been banned already too, because clearly there’s a massive bias that favors leftism.

Plenty of right wing accounts get away with it. Especially nobodies with less than 10k followers like what you linked.

Not to mention her shit was vague as fuck. You’re not about to sit and tell me her post is the same as right wing rhetoric that specifically talks about killing or harming a select group of individuals lol.

There’s no comparison with elected officials and those with 100k or 1m plus followers spouting bullshit.

Honest question: In the last few weeks didn’t Twitter change their rules, arguably to justify banning a shitload of qanon/trumper fucks?

When that post you linked was reviewed perhaps it was done so under an older set of rules? I’m not saying it’s right shit like this used to fly but maybe Twitter finally had enough.

Is there a left/right percentage breakdown of twitter somewhere?

Like hop on parler or patriot.win and look at some of the shit people are posting.

No shit they got the hammer on various social media sites.

Go ahead and repeal 230 too. The lockout will be even tighter.

It’s not whataboustism at all. Did you see how many likes and retweets that tweet had? If people need to get rekt for promoting violence and misinformation on social media, well, she should be gone, but the follow up tweet I posted was a DM from Twitter themselves saying they’d gotten complaints and that they didn’t find anything against the TOS about her tweet. And that was only one example. Your whole rebuttal is “B…b…but TRUMP!”

You don’t like Cruz Hawley and Gaetz which is why you want them banned even though they probably haven’t done anything wrong. Can you give examples of things they’ve posted that you think are worthy of a ban?
