I thought it was obvious, plenty of posters have called me out for being Canadian and meddling in American politics which I try not to do now. Now that Trump is gone i’m back to not giving a shit about American politics. I remember we had a thread about world politics and the state of the world but it’s gone now.

Now that you’ve said it I do seem to recall other people ragging on you for being Canadian. That never bothered me though, so I usually scroll right past those posts instead of reading them.
Frankly, I’m always impressed by how much more the non-US posters in here know about US politics than most of my actual neighbors and acquaintances do.

Ironically, I remember some posters in this thread saying “who cares what other countries think of the US?” when there have been plenty of people not in the US posting in this thread. Whether they like it or not, the US is a huge player in world politics, so even if those people don’t care what other countries think of US politics, it still affects them whether they like it or not. I honestly don’t remember who it was, but I don’t get the whole “isolationist” angle some Trump supporters went for. The US cannot survive on its own. Importing and exporting with the world drives the US economy as much as every other world power. You can’t play both isolationist politics and expect the world to just roll with it.

This makes me think of the absurdity of the America First movement that is led by Nick Fuentes, the US was never a nation state if i’m correct. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect it to happen now.
If you’re talking about truly racist people or bigots these people were always ostracized even in the 90s. But now the divide is between Republicans and Democrats, now there is one side who can’t tolerate 80 millions of Americans. It wasn’t always this much divided.

RE the free speech thing, it’s actually kind of a meme that the US has always been this bastion of freedom of speech. That’s actually been a more recent idea. The Sedition Act which outlawed criticizing the government was passed while the Founding Fathers were still alive, and that shitbag Woodrow Wilson used it to jail a political rival who was against the war. Most people don’t have the stomach for truly free speech anyway, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that there are so many folks out here trying to shut everyone they don’t like/agree with up.
