Yeah, except “I saw the assistant coach raping a 10-year old” wasn’t even what he was told by assistant grad McQueary. He was only told that “something” occurred between the assistant and a kid. And for all the reasons mentioned exhaustively above (who the fuck witnesses a rape and doesn’t do anything about it themselves, OR call the cops?!), his testimony was suspect.
So Paterno went directly to his superiors and told them about it, and let them handle the investigation and possibly call the police. Again, sounds reasonable to me.
It’s the fault of McQueary, the eyewitness, for not stopping the molestation, and then not calling the police. As well as the AD and university president, both of whom Paterno told of the matter.
This coming from a moron with an MLP avatar about boners. Okay.
Actually, I’ll admit it; this is probably the best, most convincing post I’ve read yet that blames Paterno. Dumb opening aside, this was a hell of a reply.
Here’s the thing, though. Many are very quick to condemn Paterno because in hindsight, he didn’t do all that he could, and didn’t follow up on the investigation personally, even though he reported it to two higher-ups.
Again, in retrospect, it was a mistake. But there’s a difference between doing something bad/wrong (like McQueary, the eyewitness, who did nothing about it, or the AD and university president, who sat on the information) and not doing something that was as optimally good as it could have been. (Paterno) I don’t feel the latter deserves condemning. At all.
I agree with the guy who said it is retarded that Paterno is getting more press time than the actual child rapist. With the way the press is over it, they make it sound like Paterno was the guy who did the bad touching.
what’s up with the riots i dont get it. then again i never gave a fuck about football so i guess i’ll never understand. dude twiddled his thumbs while boys were getting their pee pees touched
Did the kid die because of it? No, he’s alive and well and moved on with his life. The only thing to do now is give the actual rapist/pedophile some jail time. Paterno is basically a fall guy
If I were McQueary and saw Sandusky having sex with a 10 year old in the shower I would of beat seven shades of shit out that old fucking perv. I wouldn’t go home and tell my daddy what I saw (ffs the dude was 28 when he witnessed this shit).
As somebody who has very close knowledge of what happens to somebody who has been molested/raped, nobody is moving on from that shit. Rape is right there with torture and warfare was one of those things that will fuck you up for life. There is absolutely nothing about it that can be taken lightly nor anything about which should be used about so casually.
And I mean that both ways, fuck the people who lie about it all hell as well as all the people who commited such an act. Some jail time never really adds up to how destructive an act it is.
Shotouts to warpticon sporting the Go avatar, we need to get some games in. I need to start playing the game.
I wouldn’t doubt that there is some truth to this. Sandusky could have easily used his organization as a feeder for a pedo ring. Just like that news that broke out of Portugal last year where they used an orphanage as a supply to all those high ranking, influential people.
The whole pimping ring makes sense how Sandusky could buy all his victims computers and snowboards and shit. Its not like being a DC means you are making millions of bucks.
right just like we shouldn’t condemn the entire catholic church for letting all those little boys get touched amirite? oh wait yeah we should. if ur a leader, its ur responsibility to make sure little boys arent getting molested.
slightly related, i haven’t followed this at all because i don’t care about football, but what about the other higher ups who this guy told and who also did nothing? are charges being filed against them? i hope so.
I’m ashamed of myself for ever acknowledging that buffoon.
Can you explain why, when all anybody did was tell the next man up, it’s everybody but Paterno’s fault? Yeah, McQueary could have jumped in and stopped it, but he was probably also shocked senseless at what he was seeing. And, in the end, he did the same thing everybody else (including Paterno) did: told a higher-up and then essentially forgot about it.
This makes no sense. He got fired because he failed to report a rape of a young boy. Last I heard, reporting a rape isn’t a fireable offense. Reporting a rape is something to be expected of a man standing for integrity. He let that monster stick around for years.
If Paterno knew that Sandusky was a child rapist, I don’t know how a guy with any integrity and morals could let a pedophile anywhere near a shower room, and continue to be around campus and let him run a child bait foundation for helping troubled youths.
There is now an investigation on if Sandusky was pimping out the kids to large donors to the foundation. All this is alleged of course.
I think that the majority of Americans keeping children safe from rapists eclipses the importance 100 thousand fold over Penn State football.
When I see those students rioting in the street over Paterno I think it is quite sad.
They seem to make it look like they think football is more important than raping kids.
This is what america (or at least I) thinks of you that pushed the news truck over.
Paterno didn’t actually know Sandusky was raping anybody, the only things he knew were what McQueery (sp?) told him. He didn’t specifically say rape, he just said he saw some questionable things and maybe he should look into it and report it. Paterno did all he could and now he’s being villainized and fired for no good reason other than the universities failings
