I think it’s time for me to invest in upgrading/new gaming pc at the end of the year of our Lord 2020…
I hope you don’t need a new power supply. There’s a shortage right now and what’s available is overpriced.
I hope I can get away with using the current one I have…thanks for the heads up.
I’ll have to plan this accordingly.
Well now I know what GPU I’m gonna cram into my big boi build next year
And now I wait for a delicious, low priced 2080…
Used markets have been flooded with them so far so expect that drop here soon!
Yo. Anyone here can recommend me a PC for learning game development in unity 3D and 2D? I got between 1-2k for my budget
When you guys put a PSU in your computer what do you generally go for? Like just recommended wattage for what you have or do you go above that? Like the computer I just built I wanted to put at least a 700w or higher PSU but I really only needed like 450w or so.
What wattage would be good for one of those new fangled GPUs that’s coming out
I go above because I want wiggle room when I upgrade.
Nvidia in their presentation recommends PSUs 750W for their new cards. The actual GPU power is 350 (3090), 320 (3080), and 220 (3070)
If these cards is as good as the presentation says it is than my 1080ti is going on ebay.
I tried to get something that I knew could supply more power whenever I inevitably upgrade. Like, my PSU is a 650, which is more than enough for my RX570.
When I get something more powerful than a 2080, I’ll have to change the PSU, but that’s probably not going to be for a long, long time so I’m good.
Yeah, I figured most go above/higher for future proofing or whatever. I had a real hard time finding a PSU this time around cause they’re outta stock all over and they’re overpriced all over. Ended up paying 80 bucks for a 1000w PSU. Lucked out I suppose.
You can just google up a PSU calculator, plug in which components you have, and get an exact answer.
Fwiw, as long as you’re covering your minimum needs it’s generally better to get a higher quality psu than it is to just throw more money at the max wattage.
From when I read Unity is a lightweight program. You probably don’t need a specific build for it unless you want more efficiency than what your getting. I’m no game dev so I can’t be sure what to recommend.
Man… got my 5700 XT back in March/April. I haven’t even gamed that hard to say I’ve gotten my money’s worth. Though the times I did game it was great.
Gonna wait for some real world performance tests to see if they really are that big of a jump. Maybe AMD will have something comparable to the 3070, but cheaper again.
It’s unusual to see Nvidia price their cards competitively like this. Feels like a move to undercut big navi before it can warm up.
Holy shit at that 3090 price tag.
It’s a titan class card. Your meant to sell your kidneys to afford one.
That kind of budget will be fine for Unity, I’m dabbling in it myself atm and the only problem I’ve run into is my cpu hitting 95c when compiling a project but that’s more of a problem with my laptop than it is Unity. Godot is apparently a good lightweight engine that is getting better and better but I haven’t tried it myself.
From the lil research I did. I heard that Laptops can get overworked when really devling into unity and 3d projects. And Mac sucks for unity and unreal. So I’m gonna invest in a desktop PC.
