Guess I just never notice cause I always have steam open. All I do is click on the shortcut in my start menu and a second later im playing whatever game.
Steam client updates take like 1 second lol.

Itās one of the reasons. You are fine to like it.
He likely doesnāt use Steam on the regular so updating will take longer than usual. Itās like a person who hasnāt used their laptop for months and are bombard with windows updates as soon it boots and everything slows to a crawl.

Iāve encountered a highly annoying problem with Steam as of late. I keep having to login every time Steam restarts. I have the save credentials option checked off and this shit still happens. This isnāt helped that Steam authenticator doesnāt give me codes and I have to use my backups.
