The PC Gaming Thread Phase II, The Masters of Gaming. No console peasants

I like having the icons to my most used apps on the taskbar. I don’t have enough icons on the desktop to feel the need to hide them.

I wanted something sleek looking and compact, yet powerful. The days of those 15-20lb comp towers are over. And thanks to AMD, no need to make room for a videocard either. It took them forever and a day but, we’ve FINALLY reached a point where Integrated Graphics on CPU is pretty good.

The Future is now.

Finally got my new build put together. It’s not complete yet but the led fans I need are not in stock and I’m waiting for the RTX 3080 to come out before upgrading my graphics card.

  • Intel i-7 1070k

  • 16 Gig 3600 mhz DDR4

  • NZXT 510 Elite case

  • Rog Strix Z490-e motherboard

  • 650 watt Corsair power supply

  • GTX 1080 Video card

  • NZXT Kraken Z63

The Kraken Z63 is way overpriced for a cooler but once I saw it had a led screen that let you upload animated gifs I had to get it.

Summary

Here are couple of pictures of degeneracy.

Will that power supply be okay on an RTX 3080?

Thought some of the early wattage numbers being kicked around for it were kind of intense.

Probably not. Power supplies are so expensive right now so i’ll just wait until the prices return to normal and replace it if I need to.

So, I figure I’ll just get some thoughts on this now.

I plan to upgrade my GPU and CPU probably in the next few months. I’ve been looking at a few options but I’m wondering what other people might have to say on some of this.

I’ll list my current build for context.

Motherboard
Gigabyte B450 Aorus M

CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6-Core, 12-Thread Unlocked 65W

GPU
Gigabyte Radeon RX 570 Gaming 4Gig Graphics Card

MEMORY
G.Skill 16GB (2 x 8GB) Ripjaws V

Basically, I’m looking for something that’s gonna cleave any current Gen game and have no issues running next Gen either.

For processers, I keep hearing the AMD Ryzen series come up. Is the jump from the 3600 to the 3700 worth the price? Or do you guys think the 3600 would be more than enough?

For a GPU, I’ve heard a lot of good things about the RTX 2080 but that seems pretty hard to find for a price under $500…ideally I’d like something more powerful than what I have, without going over $350. If you guys have any affordable suggestions that don’t compromise too much on power, I’d love to hear them.

The motherboard I got seems to be pretty easy to switch out and upgrade stuff on, so I’m assuming this is all compatabile with it. I’m also not sure if I’ll have to add more cooling accessories.

From my understanding the new consoles are about on par with a Ryzen 3700x which is around $270 on sale. Best bet would be to wait until next year and buying the next line of AMD processors since you’ll be able to buy something more powerful for cheaper. You should look into a program called MSI afterburner:

Using that on games will let you know if your cpu or gpu is the bottleneck in games. The 4 gigs on your videocard is probably the biggest thing holding you back. Both Nvidia and AMD are supposed to be dropping new cards later this year but we won’t know which is the best deal till then. Might try getting an 8 gig RX 570/580 and selling your current card for now.

From what I remember from the parts list you posted when brought your build you got a 1600AF. You essentially have a Ryzen 2600 under the hood. I wouldn’t worry about the CPU as that’s one part that will age well. Unless it bottle caps the GPU you want to buy you should be good on the CPU front.

On GPU, AMD and Nvidia are planning to release new cards this year allegedly. It may be a good idea to wait on the cards and what new tech they can offer. If you can’t wait the RX 5700 is a good card within the $350 price range. You can get a 5700 XT if you manage to find one on sale.

Thanks for the responses.

Sounds like it might be best to go with a 3700 CPU and the RX5700. What I have now is pretty satisfactory, so I can see myself getting a lot of mileage out of those for a long while. It does seem like that 4GBs is holding me back. 8 should be plenty.

I’d love to get that LED cooling fan. Can you guys reccomend any stylish cases?

Oh damn, nice. That bottom one looks amazing but I would love to get that middle one in black. I don’t hate the neon lights (when it’s in moderation) but it’d be real cool to get a black tower with red lights and accents. Red and black is just too easy for making shit look cool.

Masterbox does come in black. You can get every case in black. White is just a personal preference of mine.

You can change the colors of the RGB lights using whatever software it uses to control it.

How can you guys stand having your cases all lit up like that all the time? It would get really annoying to me.

Hell, for the computer im putting together now I just used an old case from an old desktop. Its not ugly but it aint fancy either. And there are no lights on it. I took those fuckers out.

Cuz it doesn’t annoy me.

Yea I don’t get it either. The little LED lights on consoles are annoying enough.
