The Old School Game Players Thread

@Axl Get a PSP and mod that shit…

It is the ultimate old school gaming console imo once you hook that shit up…

Also, Donkey Kong for the gameboy… I haven’t played it in a LONG time but thanks to my PSP I have my hands on that classic once again…

It’s mad cool, the first stages start off like OG DK but once you beat those is when the real game starts…nigga steals the princess once Mario finally got her hands on her…

I thought I reached the end of the game and felt ripped off until that happened though…

Oracle of Seasons is also fucking nice and unfuckwitable as far as portable Zelda games go… personal fav…

Love that idea of playing through Xenogears again Dark. I started up FFIII (VI) again and I’m rolling through it, the game still kicks ass and I can’t recommend it enough. But like you it’s been pretty close to a decade since I played through Xenogears. I just remember that game completely blowing my mind at the time. That fighting system was sick. How can you hate on Street Fighter style attacks in an RPG made by Square? Like I said I’m playing through FFIII now and they have Sabin who has blitzes, but Xeno took that to a whole new level with their combos. And that story. Damn.

I don’t even play the new shit because like Axl I don’t even own a next gen system, but I can still guarantee they don’t make them like Xenogears anymore. I know this for a fact because when they tried with Xenosaga it ended up being a steaming hot piece of shit. That game could not be recreated.

Pretty sure I will be buying a Retron 3 soon.
Never had a Genesis.
NES pins have died out for me.
SNES is fine, but then whats the point of having all my NES games =(
Plus, I would love to pick up SoR, Xmen2CloneWars, etc

^ That shit looks awesome, I still have my Genesis and SNES but the opportunity to grab some old NES games cannot be passed up. Gonna check out some online stores for it.

Also, just looked through my old game library and I’m gonna do a run through on FFV. Sure the story wasn’t the best but the gameplay was spot on and that’s what fucking mattered back then.

I want a new Ogre Battle.

Looks cool but probably uses cheap hardware that distorts graphics, framerate or audio for certain games (which might not be an incredibly big deal if you’re not a geek about old games and just want something to play).

Has anyone made any revisions to TurboDuo hardware? Or is it just Nintendo and Sega stuff out there?

The following games are hella tight.

Contra Hard Corps.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest.

Doom 1 + 2.

Ristar.

Shinobi III.

The Revenge of Shinobi.

Also the Sega Genesis is better than the Super Nintendo.

lol No.

my super nintendo needs av cables

Just finished playing through FFIII (VI) for the first time in years. Words can’t do it justice. BTW I used a level up code that put me immediately on level 99 for all characters and it STILL took me 20 hours to complete. Wow, what a game.

My next venture is going to be Terranigma. Is anybody familiar with this SNES game that was never released in the US? Supposedly it’s on the level of Secret of Mana in terms of action RPGs, and the best non-FF RPG to never be released stateside. I can’t wait to get started. Should I use level codes or should I play through normally? Kinda hesitant to use codes since unlike FFIII I never played this game before, I’d hate for the codes to ruin my experience, but then again at the same time I don’t wanna spend 40-plus hours on an RPG.

SRK pruned that one Genesis anniversary thread I made a while ago >:(

I’ve been playing a lot of SNES lately.
specifically Jim Power: The Lost Dimension 3D

man that game is fucking hard…

My cult classic console gaming thread is still around. You should bump that one instead :shades:

I really wish we had Secret of Mana 2 in NA.
It’s when SNES games were starting to look like PS1 games.

I never stopped playing Tetris Attack.

Terranigma is a great ARPG. It’s sometimes referred to as the third game in the “Soul Blazer” series by Quintet (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terrangima), so if you’ve played any of those, you kinda know what to expect. It’s also kind of a spiritual successor to Act Raiser and has a very similar “re-build the world” feel. I’d say it’s easily the best of the three and probably the best thing Quintet has done period, even though I haven’t played much of their Saturn stuff. In comparison to the Mana games, where I’d say they’re about 1/4 action and 3/4 RPG, this would probably be the opposite (kinda like Zelda), and you’re allowed more freedom of movement like jumping and dash attacks. Using a level code would be up to you, but I never really had too much trouble with it and only had to grind a little bit. The music and cinematic scenes between each scenario are also really good.

Damn that sucks, because the thing I loved about Mana was that it was 3/4 RPG. I’ll take Mana over Zelda anyday because I don’t even consider Zelda an RPG, I consider it an action/adventure game with RPG elements. Where as Mana is an actual RPG with action/adventure elements. I’ll still play through it for a while to see for myself, because every screen shot and youtube video I saw put me more in the mind of Mana than Zelda.

BTW speaking of Mana, I fucking forgot about Secret of Mana 2 that odin mentioned. Is there an English translation out there like there is for Terranigma? I NEED to play that game because SoM1 was the absolute shit.

I messed around withZelda Classic when I was in university. I made two quests out of it: King Quest and King Quest the 2nd: http://www.purezc.com/index.php?page=quests&title=King+Quest&creator=&version=&sort=

I had so much fun making quests.

Ya there is. Should be pretty easy to find. And if you are more lucky and willing to drop 300 bucks…

A fan-made cartridge with the translated ROM.

If I had money to burn, I would totally buy that.
