The Ogre Thread

Going to main Ogre and Akuma. As a tekken player I really missed Ogre, one of my fave characters back in the old days. Unfortunately, as I play Dhalsim in SSF4, If have no idea if Akuma will work well with him. Do you guys think these two will have good synergy?

What the fuck is the function of Ancient Power?

LP counters low hitting attacks,MP counters mid/high hitting attacks,and HP is full body invincible,and absorbs one projectile hit.So basically HP is the best anti ever. lol

Well lili’s anti air is better since it leads to a full combo, and Ogre’s uf.lk is actually a very decent anti-air against short jump-ins as it leads to combos as well. also nice is blazing kick. Pretty much if you are playing ogre and the opponent is trying to put pressure on, and hasn’t knocked you down yet, you can stop anything they throw at you.

I absolutely love what Capcom did with Ogre visually.

Just so you guys know. If you’re doing a jump in combo like this:
j.HK, cl.HK xx LK DP, uf.LK xx MK, st.HP, QCB MP = 421 dmg
j.HK, st.HP xx LK DP, uf.LK xx MK, st.HP, QCB MP = 441 dmg

So in case you didn’t know… use punch instead of kick. Also ending with EX grab at the end only gave me like 443 dmg, so it’s not worth wasting a bar obviously.

What tournaments is OGRE being banned at?

I’m watching the steam @ Levelup /w Mike Ross, Marn, Gootecks, etc -and the people in chat say he can’t be used.

But then again trolls in chat are often prone to lying… I just don’t want to main a character, that I wont be able to use.

He’s not. It’s the same idiots who used to get off saying oni is banned now say ogre is banned.

So would you guys say he’s better in first or second slot? I’m interesting in maining him and I’m hoping he works for first slot.

I would say he works anywhere Emil, though I think he’s going to have issues openning people up. He has some big damage stuff on his own off jump-ins, but no good cross up, low link will take a bit of practice to get down (not super hard, but unsafe if you miss the link) and as far as I can tell, no overhead to combo off of. I’m in the lab with him right now and haven’t been looking at many partners for him, but he kind of eats up all the juggle points so I can’t seem to find anything good off of tags with him, but he can do like 480 damage by himself with no meter in the corner which I think is massive right now in this game… however it starts off a j.HP/HK. We’ll see though.

Just learned that his forward + mash hk chains second hit is a mid, yhird hit is a low. NOONE can block this yet. Combo into super, cross art, or ex Flamekick in the corner for big dmg. You can cancel the last hit into charge attack dash cancel for safety

Fun fact. Zangeif’s super can punish Ogre’s cr.MP on block and hit if he is close enough. Watch your spacing kids.

What have you guys been using for block strings? Also, any thoughts on the c.LK, c.MK, cMK string? I mean it does launch on hit and first two hits are pretty much safe on block to anyone thats not Julia (at least for now). And how are you guys using his overhead c.HK?

Qcb+k is -6 on block, but its huge amount of block stun make it a little difficult to time a punish. Also, the block stun makes it safe to tag in your partner and continue a block string. Guide mentions its a good meaty too.

Qcf+lp is +2 on block, so if you wanna end a block string safely. I’ve noticed Ogres jump-ins are just baddd hence why I play a defensive Ogre. He has more keep away tools than applying pressure tools. Good backdash, long reaching pokes, HP dp, etc.

Still trying to find a good partner for Ogre. I’ve been using Ogre as my point. He builds meter quick without really needing it either. Lots of good tag points (but as someone mentioned earlier, he hogs the juggle points). I can see him at the second spot too. Right now I’m just wary how he does in certain matchups.

I’ve been using his s.lp x2 string. Easy hit confirm to :uf: lk. I add in cr.mk dash cancel too for a surprise throw. Basically I fish for openings with s.lp(especially)/lk/mp to hit confirm into :uf: lk. I chain into the cr.hp overhead usually but I honestly forget about it most of the time.

is it just me or does Ogre have absolutely no crossup options? everything seems to whiff
