Nah, it’s completely okay to use runaway tactics… I was just joking about him disconnecting, which is like running away from the fight… Since Akumas often use runaway tactics.
Bad Quality! HELP!
Hi guys, New guy here.
Really need some advice, Are there any software conflicts that have come to light with SFIV PC?
I’m running
Pentium 3.0ghz
geforce 9400gt DDR2 1gb DVI\HDMI
3gb Ram
Windows Xp Sp3
I just updated this card from one that was 512mb. Prior to getting this new card, I was only running this game at roughly 800x600 with mid\low settings. Upgrading, I thought this would surely improve the situation. Much to my dismay and frustration. Nada. I’ve played with every single toggle, and (what little) Nvidia option I could find. I used msconfig, to reboot the computer with nothing in the background, and I’m still getting the quality>speed problem.
So, I guess I am just asking if running with these stats-- should I be seeing more quality? I mean, this might sound ignorant, but it’s an HD card w\HDMI and DVI-- This should work better then my Vaio Laptop from 2002.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m itching to start playing with the skins and contributing some of my own…
<cheers>
not sure but I think a 9400 is pretty shitty
dont expect much from a 50$ card
While it is a good point, that the card isn’t of the most reputable of models, I guess I’m asking if I can get SFIV to access more then 100mb of the 1gb on the card. Games like Tomb Raider Underworld and GTAIV run fantastic, while this game obviously runs on a different engine. It’s just boggling my mind that this setup not only meets but exceeds the “recommended” requirements for SFIV.
So, any video card or settings or driver advice would be killer help.
Anyone else with such a problem, or am I completely wrong?
Stage Music Editing Breakthrough
I’ve worked out a way to create Stage Music files (for the normal stages) that will play a single song all the way through from start to finish without cutting out at all. This will allow people to create Stage music using any of their favourite songs - since the music doesn’t cut out or change tempo it means you can use songs with lyrics and it won’t sound odd… i’ve already been playing matches to some Coheed and Cambria.
You’ll need the original song in MP3 format (which most people probably have) and you’re good to go.
You’ll also need some of the encoding and packing tools mentioned earlier in this thread, but it’s actually really easy to do so don’t worry if you’re not very good at editing music (i’m certainly not). Everything you need is in this Zip file,
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8N9JJT1W
(Even if you’ve got hardly any experience editing I would recommend giving this a try as it is very easy, just follow the instructions)
First of all you need to open your MP3 with Audacity, then simply choose to ‘Export as Wav’ from the menu - this will create a .Wav file of your song.
Next you need to use adxencd.exe to convert your .wav song into .adx format - again this is very easy. Just drag the wav file onto the adxencd.exe file (in Windows) and it should automatically create the same song in .adx format. Make a note of the file name and location.
Now you need to use CSB_Packer.exe to create your final Stage music file. It’s best if all your files are in the same folder for this next bit, as it will be easier to find them.
Run CSB_Packer and you will see 7 slots that you need to fill with files - I’ve included 2 of the files you need for this so all you need is your choice of song in .adx format (which you have already created). In the first slot (called Sound Bank) browse and select the BGM_Stage.csb file (included).
Now we have 6 audio slots to fill.
In slot 1 choose the file ‘nothing.adx’ (included)
In slot 2 choose your song in .adx format (the file you created)
In slot 3 you should again choose the file ‘nothing.adx’ (included)
In slot 4 you should again choose your song in .adx format (the file you created)
In slot 5 yet again choose the file ‘nothing.adx’ (included)
In slot 6 yet again choose your song in .adx format (the file you created)
Now click on ‘Create CSB’ and it will create a file called ‘BGM_Stage.csb.new’ - this is your stage music. (If you can’t see the .new part of the filename you might need to change a windows folder option to allow you to see file extensions).
All you need to do now is rename this file so that it matches the stage you want your music to play on and then copy it to the correct SF4 folder.
The stage music is located in this folder C:\Streetfighter4\Battle\System\
In order to explain which file relates to which stage I will list them in the same order they appear on the stage select screen in VS mode - if you imagine the 3 rows of stages on this screen you’ll understand what I mean, so looking at the VS stage select screen from left to right these are the stage music files,
RANDOM BGM_USA.csb, BGM_CHN.csb, BGM_RUS.csb, BGM_BRA.csb, BGM_AFR.csb
BGM_VIE.csb, BGM_JPN.csb, BGM_EUR.csb, BGM_SCO.csb, BGM_JPX.csb, BGM_LAB.csb
BGM_RVR.csb, BGM_VCN.csb, BGM_CNX.csb, BGM_VNX.csb, BGM_BRX.csb, BGM_TRN.csb
So if you want your song to play on the USA stage (the one with the cars in the background) you would simply rename BGM_Stage.csb.new to BGM_USA.csb (making sure to delete the .new file extension so that the file ends with .csb) and then copy it to the correct SF4 folder - *C:\SF4\Battle\System* (Remember to back up your original sound files from this folder in case you want to change back to the original music).
Now you should be able to fight along to your favourite songs! :wgrin:
Wow this turned into a long post.
Most of the credit for this should go to ‘Goshanes’ as he created the CSB_Packer program, and without that we wouldn’t be able to do anything. So a huge thank you to him for creating it!
P.s.
I think this discovery deserves it’s own thread as it allows fully custom music on all the stages (I think a lot of people would like to know about this), but I don’t have the ability to post new threads yet. If anyone wants to copy what i’ve written and post it in a new thread on my behalf they are more than welcome to. Thanks.
As a final and more technical side note - the reason this works is because sound clips 2,4 and 6 are all loops and they all start playing at the same time (at the start of the fight). My ‘nothing.adx’ file is simply 1 second of silence - i used this so that the intro sound clips 1,3 and 5 don’t do anything. When the song changes (due to 2 ultras being ready or low health) the game simply switches to sound clip 4 or 6, but because I put the exact same song for those clips it just continues playing as if nothing happened. Obviously this wouldn’t work if the loop sound clips started playing at different times (the song would probably restart), but it seems we got lucky for once. lol
The only downside are the rather large sound files that you end up with doing it this way, but that can’t be helped.
I just got the Super Joy Box 3, but haven’t gotten the D-pad working yet. I tried it on both PS1 and PS2 controllers. I’m on Windows 7 Beta. It says on the package that it is compatible with Vista, though I’ve heard things contrary to the advertised claim.
^ good find man!
I love the character themes in this game, but never get a chance to hear them in-game really… now I can do it myself!
There’s been a ton of discussion in this thread regarding PC graphics settings.
To distill the info for you, it’s been noted that Anti-Aliasing, Character Models, Background, and V-sync are the most important settings to tweak. Perhaps the most important is that your Frame Rate be set to ‘Fixed.’
Also for nVidia cards, make sure you have PhysX OFF and 3D Acceleration set as ‘Let the 3D application decide’
New PC player here. My new stick should be here late this week or next. Loving it so far on the pc but matchmaking is still annoying.
people need to do some research before they buy video cards, just because it has 512mb extra video memory than your previous card doesnt make it good. Tons of the reviews on the net
i really hope that they will ban the guys with 99999999999 points in ladder / hacker that lame on ladder points…
i hate to see the game ruined by stupid noobs
Hi Everyone,
I have a Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz with 2Gb RAM and plenty of hard disk space.
What video card do I need to be able to play the game at full settings @ 60fps? I realize I can get the top-of-the-line Nvidia GTX card and that would definitely take care of business, but I’m much more interested in the other end of the spectrum…
I’m assuming a GTS 250 would do the trick, but I was curious if there’s anything cheaper?
In the end, I will spend what I need to, but since I don’t play any 3D games other then SF4, I don’t really want to get anything more then that game would need to play at 100%.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
You could probably also go with an ATI HD 4850 or 4770, but all three cards are within $5-10 of each other with rebates. As far as I can tell, the 1GB (but not 512MB) 4850 is slightly faster than the other two. But it also runs very hot.
It would also depend on the size of your display.
Thanks very much for your input!
The time will be split 50/50 between my 1080p monitor and my 1024x768 projector.
I’m really more interested in maxing it out at 1080p but I would be curious to know what I can get away with to max it out at 1024x768 as well…
maybe I can just use a completely different PC for the projector.
How do you turn off voice chat in this?
It’s probably your drivers. You have WAAAAAY more than enough to run SFIV, a 9400 is a fine card (the benchmarks posted are misleading, they’re for Crysis and it’s being compared to a GTX model card). Just upgrade your drivers and make sure you’re running a stable and clean system.
I have a 8800GT with 512MB dedicated, runs my game fine, high settings. I just think people overload their boxes with a bunch of unnecessary crap and people forget to update their drivers and clean their system every once in a while (ex. clean installs?).
Ok,so Nvidia with their new drivers decided that i don’t need 960/something resolution(i was playing windowed mode). How graciously of you,Nvidia. See you with your next pack of drivers in a next month, cos i will be skipping this one.
Ps: Or is there any way to force SFIV to run on a resolution i desire? Something like “-width -height”(not working, though).
You can use Powerstrip to define custom resolutions. Works a treat.
Because my notebook gets too hot when I play at 1280x800 I defined a resolution of 1024x640 which also fills my entire laptop’s screen (16:10-format). Looks almost as good yet is less demanding.
With Powerstrip you can even define very unusual resolutions like e.g. 852x432.
Powerstrip adds these custom resolutions to your available gfx-modes under Windows XP/Vista - and you can then select any of these resolutions in the SF4-options.
Feels like i’m in a commercial spot
Well,thank you very much.
