The "Official" Street Fighter 4 PC Thread (read first post)

Modest Dell XPS 1530. It’s a dual core 2.2 GHz, 4gb ram (3.5 usable), nv 8600M GT 256mb, 7200rpm hd, Vista 32bit. Backgrounds and AA are the heaviest hitters and enabling either of them drops the framerate from 60FPS.

Hello,

I’m playing SFIV for PC on my Desktop (GeForce 6600) and my Laptop (GeForce Go 6150) computers. They both run the game fine, except my Laptop has one major display problem:

As you can see, the health bar is black. It only does it for half the game’s stages, but it stays that way no matter what settings I use.

Does anyone else have the same problem, and is there any way to fix it?

Does it have local multiplayer?

I don’t want to buy it myself, but I know someone who does.

Might be my SLI and vRAM giving me a performance boost in those areas. As mentioned in a previous post, AA doesn’t give worthwhile graphics improvement for the cost. You might try disabling that and see if you can still use a background.

check your graphic driver settings.

How do I do that with NVIDIA?

^^right-click on your desktop and choose NVIDIA Control Panel. It should also be available from your windows Control Panel.

System Information:

Maybe I missed it, but where are the options to turn on surround sound?

i runned the benchmark and I can safely say that my laptop cant run it >_< so this will be a pass for me. What i’m running on now is a intel core 2 duo t6400 2.0ghz and 4gb of ddr 2 ram, wat exactly is needed to run this out of curiosity

hmm you say you get better performance in windows XP? i have a similar setup (single core pentium 4, 8800 gt, 3gb ram) and i can run SF 4 decent on win 7 but im wondering if it would be better on xp.

damn im gonna give it a shot once i get my copy, i have downloaded it but havent played online yet so i cant really test out my performance.

could you post your benchmark score? right now i get 12500ish score on the bench mark 1280x800 Res 75hz refresh rate, everything set to low except backgrounds.

you probably have an integrated GPU which means your RAM isn’t dedicated to graphics…

Hey i also have a p4 with a decent agp vid card but it means the cpu is mainly the bottleneck, so you can turn up the settings that aren’t cpu intensive; models, soft shadows iirc. Try upping them i think they might not hinder your performance really at all. Also make sure paralell rendering is off, texture rendering is off, v sync is off and all those other settings are off (low isnt the lowest for most off is). Also dont have any youtube pages opened in the backgorund or any cpu intensive background programs. I found only havign a youtube video opened in the background, even if it wasn’t running cost me 10 frames. Im on xp btw. Anyways hope that helps.

I’m not using AA…it impacts performance too badly. Either way, I’ll be content to play high player model quality + no backgrounds or medium model quality + backgrounds if the frame skipping still looks smooth with a fixed 60 FPS.

I’ll look to see if my drivers are outdated and report back with the results.

Is there any way I can use 2 different pads to play online? Like I have an arcade stick and a Saturn pad, and I want to be able to use either one to play online because I play a bit better on the pad with some characters. but I haven’t been able to use 2P control online.

Anyone complaining about not being able to use their own music really hasn’t been playing PC games for a very long time, obviously. There’s no need for them to link the game to Windows Media Player (being the only proprietary first-party playback program available) because your PC can multitask!

Alt+tab, download Winamp and fire it up! Then set some Hotkeys for changing tracks if you don’t want to have to keep switching window focus. There’s even a Winamp plugin (old, but might be updated or a newer one available) that displays an overlay whenever it changes tracks (or use Voice-Overlay and a winamp plugin for Ventrilo). Welcome to the late 90’s.

SF4 PC Music Editing

I am trying to change the music in this game so that we have the rival music in all of the stages (in VS mode and arcade etc) as I believe it is much better. Unfortunately I need help but I’ll explain how I am doing it first.

The music files are located in the directory below and they are *.csb files (never heard of this file type before).

C:\Streetfighter4\Battle\System\

After some hard work I’ve figured out which filenames relate to which piece of ingame music.

These are the rival music files (a bit like the old SF2 music),

BGM_AGL - C.VIPER
BGM_BOS - SETH
BGM_CHB - RUFUS
BGM_CLX - CHUN-LI (REMIX)
BGM_CMY - CAMMY
BGM_CNL - CHUN-LI (ORIGINAL)
BGM_GAG - RYU (SLOW REMIX)
BGM_GKI - AKUMA
BGM_GKN - GOUKEN
BGM_GUL - GUILE
BGM_JHA - ABEL
BGM_KEN - KEN
BGM_RIC - EL FUERTE
BGM_ROS - ROSE
BGM_RYU - RYU (ORIGINAL)
BGM_RYX - RYU (ANOTHER SLOW REMIX)
BGM_SGT - SAGAT
BGM_SKR - SAKURA
BGM_VEG - VEGA
BGM_ZGF - ZANGIEF

The rest of the files are the music files for VS mode and the normal stages (in my opinion most of this music is pretty bland).

In order to explain which file relates to which stage I will list them in the same order they appear on the stage select screen in VS mode - if you imagine the 3 rows of stages on this screen you’ll understand what I mean, so looking at the VS stage select screen from left to right these are the stage music files,

RANDOM BGM_USA, BGM_CHN, BGM_RUS, BGM_BRA, BGM_AFR
BGM_VIE, BGM_JPN, BGM_EUR, BGM_SCO, BGM_JPX, BGM_LAB
BGM_RVR, BGM_VCN, BGM_CNX, BGM_VNX, BGM_BRX, BGM_TRN

In order to get the rival music in the normal stages I simply renamed the files - so for example if you wanted Ken’s music on the USA stage (the drive-in stage) you would simply make a copy of the file BGM_KEN.csb and rename it to BGM_USA.csb, then overwrite the original BGM_USA.csb with the new one.

This works to some extent but unfortunately the music keeps cutting out towards the end of a fight and all you get is silence - I think it’s when the health bars get quite low. This is when the faster (more dramatic) bit of music would normally start playing to indicate the fight was close to finishing, however in the rival fights this doesn’t actually happen (the same piece of music continues playing from the start of the fight to the end). It seems as though the game still wants to start playing this faster piece of music towards the end of the fights but perhaps the rival *.csb files don’t contain it, so instead you don’t hear anything.

I can’t think of any way to fix this issue as it probably requires editing the files instead of just renaming them, and I don’t know how to do that. :frowning:

Any help would be appreciated.

As a side note the files BGM_AVX_E.csb and BGM_AVX_J.csb are simply the English and Japanese versions of the title screen music (not good). Also I couldn’t find Bison’s rival music anywhere, despite hearing it when you play Bison at the rival stage of the arcade mode (it’s like a remix of Bison’s SF2 music), but that isn’t important right now.

Does anybody else have this issue? Basically when I create a match and somebody joins, their connection quality always decreases after waiting around 10 seconds, so if somebody with a green connection joins, itll usually end up yellow, yellow will end up orange and so on and so forth.
Seems quite deceptive if you happen to press the ready button before 10 seconds or so is up.

Online feels awful, i’m well aware that the console people complain about it but I didn’t think it would be this bad, I can’t say I enjoy playing it online unless the connection is green ,and this means the guy has to be located really close to me so it really limits the amount of people I want to play.

Other than that its a really nice port, game looks great and runs great but its back to ggpo for me.
