The "Official" SSBM Thread

Doc is much more easier than Mario at lower levels because he has better KO moves.

Here’s a lil bit of Samus advice:

  • it’s better to approach from the ground than from the air because Samus has slow aerial mobility.
  • Samus’ air game should be mostly used for air to air combat.
  • like chaos said, crossup Dair is the better move IMO to approach a grounded opponent from air
  • on a stage with platforms, you have more chances to use aerials if you do em off the platforms, cause its faster that way

I’m saying that Mario is the best for low level because of how good he is, I’m saying you should use him because he’s real easy to learn all the basics of the game on. But Doc would probably would work as well as long as whoever’s playing doesn’t fall into the trap of trying to get his forward air off every other move.

Thanks for the advice, but isnt kind of hard ot mix up samus’s bomb recovery game against a marth? that sword covers some insane distance.

yea, i have to work more on being able to omplement her d-air, and short hopping it, its one of the harder thigns for me to pick up on.

also, is it true that i shouldnt be using her wavedash for mobility? and that i should be dash dancing more? someone told me that at a tourny, but i find it hard to beleive, because samus’s WD is so dam good.

This is just General Samus advice.

Wave dash with Samus is awesome.

Spacing with Samus’s tilts is nice. And effective.

Her Dash dance is ok. Use it I guess.

Don’t roll with her unless it’s absolutely neccesary.

Missile spam. Missile Spam. MISSILE SPAM!!!

Up B outta shield is nice.

Missile cancelling to dash attack, or another missile or dash grab is nice. Also Missile cancel and then chase your missile, dash behind them and grab or smash.

CCing to d-smash is nice.

Whore CCing!!!

Use Short hop nairs for your offense then when they shield, you can do a number of things. You can jab, run back then dash back in with a dash attack or a grab. You can spot dodge then D-smash. Mix it up and experiment.

Nairs ( Neutral airs) Kick so much ass! Use them to interrupt recovering oppenents. You could just run off the stage and nair if they get predictable. Just make sure you can recover. Which isn’t a problem because you are Samus. Also use them to get out of combos. Bombs too.

Speaking of bombs, why not bomb an oppenents shield? Then go for a missile cancel, or missile spam, charge shot. Fast fall fair or dair to w/e. Experiment.

Also when in the shield, you usually want to wave dash out of it. It helps her mobility. Also when in the sheild you could JC a fade away nair or a fade away fair. Remember, experiment.

thanks for the advice, ill definetly work on all of that.
as for whoring CC, i actually do whore it, but it doesnt seem to be as effective against marth, for some odd reason marth’s down tilt always beasts me, even when i try and CC. and if i try and CC his incoming fair, his second fair usually comes out before i can counter with samus’s down tilt. i just hate my overall matchup against marth, period. its annoying. but thats another thing i definetly will work on, hopefully next time we face off, i wont get raped so bad.

I would disagree with Jiggs and Fox. Fox simply because at a beginner’s level with comp, Falco is a easier pickup than Fox. To play even a decent Fox requires a decent amount of technical skill, which really isn’t easy to learn as a beginner with Fox. His speed makes him a bit harder to control and to learn the technical aspects of the game. I’d pick someone else to learn technical stuff first, then switch over if a player is so inclined. Jiggs is not really easy to use as a beginner, because even though she has great recovery, she gets killed really friggin’ easy, and if there is competition, expect to get KOed a lot by Foxes, Falcos and Marths really early in the match. Someone who has almost as good recovery and is easier to pick up is Samus.

CCing rapes Marth’s fair and his d-tilt. You should be doing a d-smash after you take the hit immediately. Only d-tilt for combos, but overall d-smash is better IMO.

Overall it is a bad match-up for Samus though so don’t feel bad for struggling with it.

CCing rapes Marth pretty hard in general actually. Especially with Samus because she is arguably the best at it along with Peach. It’s probably Samus’s greatest weapon against Marth, besides smart projectile use. A CCed D-smash will interrupt Marth’s second fair if he does a short hopped double fair. You just have to time it.

CCing may not seem that effective, but if that’s the case, you aren’t utilizing it correctly.

One more thing that nobody mentioned yet: up+b out of shield!!!

Another important thing vs Marth: if you block a fsmash, you have time to WD towards him and counter with a quick move.

In overall, controlling space becomes very important in this matchup because you must either fight inside or outside the range of the tip of his sword (big levels might help out).

When up close, use tilts to pressure Marth, stuff his jumps with Dash attack before his attack comes out. Counter his attacks with up+b out of shield, spot dodges, and CC counter attacks.

lol. I said up b outta shield.

But yes use her spot dodges too. She is one of the better spot dodgers in the game.

Ehh, that’s not really the top. More like a mix of Top Upper and Higher Mids.

To Ken34:
I don’t main samus, but I regularly play someone who is really good with her. Can you short hop with samus? If so, when you sh, time your missle firing so that it is at the same level as if you shot the missle standing on the ground. Then as soon as you land, shoot another missle right away. I believe this is called a double missle. Don’t bomb recover near the marth when he is edgeguarding, let yourself fall down outside of his range, then sweetspot with your up+b to the ledge. Wavedash is nice, but you gotta know when and when not to use it. Wavedashing into an fsmash generally is not too good of an idea. Although I have trouble with this a lot too, since I have recently just learned how to wd about 90% of the time with most of the characters with faster wavedashes (i.e. fox, shiek, samus, IC’s). With your samus, try to stay a bit closer to the person you fight. Stay a little bit outside of the sword range and spam some missles. Sometimes run at the person, then wd back right away, hopefully to bait them into missing an fsmash or something. Overall, I think you have a pretty decent Samus. Just wondering how long have you been playing?

I started playing smash serious in februrary of this year, and i picked samus up seriously last month. I started out with peach, but i always got raped by this shiek player, so after seeing samus’s missle cancels and CC ability, i switched to samus, who i seem to do alot better with overall.

I can SH with samus, but it isnt something i can do in the heat of the battle yet, so to speak.

Wait, when Falco move up to Top? Last time I played smash he was high, but not above Marth/Shiek.

Like a year ago son. Damn. His short hop lazers, pillars, Spiking and nair combos were just too hard to strong.

Falco is the Akuma of SSBM.

I wouldn’t say that.

Close enough. >_>

I mean there is no other character in SSBM that is closer to Akuma then Falco.

I mean, all the projectile spam and what not.

Anyway, check out my sig WoZ. And call me if you want to talk, I guess.

Just like Akuma, that stupid bird can’t take a hit lol

Indeed.

Falco’s recovery sucks, too…and he’s a freakin’ bird. I like falco, though.

As for the samus tips, whoring CCs is good, but I recently learned in a tourney last weekend not to do it against SHFL’ing space animals.

Falco just feel so wierd to me when I play him. Also, in my opinion, Falco’s wavedash is hard as hell to do. But that’s because I main fox, fox’s WD is way easier than falco’s. Actually just about everyone else’s wavedash is easier than falco.
