Actually, I think most of the players that I play with would’nt even know about jumping out of a shield. I would’nt be surprised that they would’nt know about up+A/B out of a shield. But again, that’s why I was’nt so sure.
But a lot of the guys are better than me, they don’t know most of the higher level tricks, but since I hardly get a chance to play 1 on 1’s it’s the best I got right now.
You can also upsmash from your shield but you can’t do it using up+A because that will cause you to jump and do an upair move. Instead you have to tap up on both the control stick and c-stick. Timing is a bit strict but not so much.
Confused a bit about some stuff that you guys are talking about. So bascially if Peach/Sheik does her down smash, I don’t have to block all the hits and instead of shield grabbing I can
1 - Jump out of my shield and do a F-air
2 - Wavedash out and F-smash
3 - Wavedash in and throw
Are option 2,3 safe where I can’t get hit by the rest of the down smash?? I can see how the first one would work, but in the other 2, wouldn’t I get hit by the rest of down smash since it last so long even if I wavedash out of the shield??
Options 2 and 3 are definitely safe provided that the hits pushed you far enough while you were shielding. I’ll have to test that sometime just to make sure though.
If your shield is being hit by the downsmash, you can’t really do anything or you will get hit. You have to wait until it’s finished and punish the peach during the down smash lag.
That’s actually untrue. You can simply Up Smash out of your sheild the normal way --though there is a little bit of a timing issue with it. You just have to be quick. This works because there are actually 2 or 3 standing frames in the beginning of every character’s jump animation (this is actually the same way it works with the c-stick, except you’re pressing A instead of the stick).
Well, assuming you actually CAN WD with Ness, like everyone else, his WD is generally a good spacing tool. Of course a WD can be used for MANY other things, but that’s up to you to get creative.
Try using Ness’ backwards WD to space his Foward Smash (Bat Attack), which is most efficient went hitting with the tip. You can also use it to space some of his more important aerials; Back Aerial (Bair) and Foward Air (Fair). Bair benefits greatly from good spacing because it contains a “sweetspot” property (landing an attack within a specified area of its hitbox. I.e, Ness’ F Smash).
Mok:
Sticks are banned in Smash tournaments. Only GC first and third party controllers are allowed.
I don’t think sticks are banned, it’s just that nobody’s bothered to make a stick for it yet (that I’m aware of). That, and the control scheme probably wouldn’t map out well for a stick…
Yeah, I was playing with a friend and tried multiple times to try and wavedash out during shiek’s Dsmash. I wasn’t able to wavedash out in or out between, but only until the moved ended, so I don’t know about wavedashing out after the move for a Fsmash, but wavedashing in out of the shield for a throw seemed to work better.
Got some more general Marth questions:
If I know some is going to do a dash attack that as has lots of lag, couldn’t I UpB out of my shield instead of shield grab?? I never see any top players really do that even though it was more knock back, how come they always go for the throw, is it just more convenient?
Also, if I know some is going to tech towards me, or dash attack, and I know I can wavedash back to have them end up right in front of them, should I go for Fsmash or Up B?? Up B has more knock back then a Fsmash up close, but Fsmash is Fsmash plus there isn’t as much lag and I think Fsmash does more.
You mean when you sweetspot with Marth’s f-air, you can juggle Falcon easily?
It’s pretty much because he’s a fast faller (like Fox and Falco). They’re easier to juggle than floaties, especially if your opponent doesn’t DI, or DI’s badly. Compare him to Mario or Luigi, both of whom don’t suffer from hitstun nearly as much.
Heavier characters and fast fallers are easier to combo when you’ve built up some damage on them and floaties are usually easier to combo at lower damages.
