So I recently started playing Sonic Spinball again just to beat it finally, anyone got any tips?
That’s the reason why I asked first before telling you Nakamura didn’t do it. I have no problem with stuff being cheesy…because like you said it’s Sonic. But I still feel the the U.S. OST overall does a better job with most of the stages. I’d also want to contest you on the Atmospheric/trance thing because Sonic over the years has done so many different music genre’s that I doubt I’d be able to name them all.

To me the U.S. version sounds more like it belongs something evil I’m fighting while the Japanese version sounds like a party is happening.
This is why Sega makes Sonic into Kratos or King Arthur or whatever…
It’s because it would take DECADES to make the graphics of a “true” (by true I mean just regular Sonic platforming, no God of War shit) 3D Sonic game that lasts a good 5-6 hours. Think about it, each of the stages in Unleashed must have taken months to complete for the artists, yet we finish it in under 2 minutes. They have to throw in the useless garbage or else we would have a one hour game.
They should pull a Capcom and release an old school Sonic on PSN or Live. I’m sure old school fans would lap it up, and they wouldn’t have to worry about drawing all the stages and shit.
While I think Sonic Boom fits the CD Intro better I like Toot Toot Sonic Warrior a lot better as a song. Both Sound Tracks are fine though over all.
The thing is, Sonic wasn’t just about speed. Sure, that was the main selling point “ZOMG he’s faster than Mario BUY THIS GAME BLAST PROCESSING SEGA!” but it was just as much about platforming, exploration, and using the physics of Sonic to guide him through the various levels, especially in Sonic 3 + Knuckles. But, as the series went on, the series switched gears to “YEAH LETS SPEED THROUGH THE LEVEL IN 2 MINTUES THIS IS TOTALLY WORTH 60 BUCKS RIGHT GUYZ!?”, so they have to fill up the game with complete bullshit like fishing with giant blue cats and hunting(read: walking around aimlessly) for emerald shards while shitty rap songs loop every 30 seconds.
Oh, I’m not dissing the JP version of Sonic CD at all. I really like it. Though from what I’ve read, the controversy over the game’s soundtrack did start with GameFan when the word out that the USA version’s was different and GameFan did have a big following.
Really, though, the both scores for Sonic CD are pretty sweet. Few games get TWO great scores.
You have a point that Sonic music’s done many genres, but most of that stuff was good :P. I think the US OST was a subpar replacement for a perfectly good soundtrack. This is pretty much just opinion butting heads again and I’m likely not going to change your mind.
Might I remind you that in Sonic CD you’re fighting -Eggman- XP?
A crazy scientist shaped like an egg that creates elaborate contraptions and wields the powers of great beasts he manages to bring under his control with the ultimate goal of building a giant Egg-Related Theme Park and attacks you with winning instruments of death like pinball machines and whatever that thing he uses in Launch Base 2 before the Death Egg launch is?
Besides, the rap theme is catchy as hell ^_^.
Well, even so, that doesn’t mean everyone that likes the JP OST only likes it or ever only liked it because it’s the original and because of Gamefan. The controversy would have ultimately happened with or without Gamefan’s help; after all, Sonic Crackers and the Sonic 2 demo stuff came out pretty much all on its own from digging at the details regarding never-mentioned-again screenshots.
Sonic 2 Demo stuff?
The levels that never made it to the final release or got renamed. IIRC, Dust Zone, Wood Zone, Hidden Palace, Genocide City Zone.

Oh I know about the levels an stuff. It sounded like there was some massive uproar about it or something.
I don’t think there was O_o. My point was more or less that people would have figured it out eventually.
I think that topic was already covered a couple of months back where I believe most of us came to the conclusion that in order for a true 3d Sonic game to be realized it’d take quite a length of time. To Sonic Adventure 1 and 2’s credit though normal runs through Sonic and Shadow’s levels through those games averaged around 5 minutes…and those stages had way less content going on in the stages than in Unleashed. If Sega wanted to be serious I’d say it would take them a minimum of 3 years to make a good 10 hour first run story play through game…And bring the Chao’s and different missions for each stage for replayability.
Unleashed technically was the first 3d sonic game at 60 bucks where you ‘speed through the level in 2 min’. Sonic 2006 had Shadow, Silver and uh…glitches…
AND HEY…Don’t insult the Raps yo! lol For what they were they were pretty good. I forgot what someone earlier in the thread called it…observational rapping? Sort of like that starbucks commercial with those guys following him around and singing about what he was doing.
‘Who could of done this? That snitch named Rouge!’
I probably wouldn’t change my opinion but that’s fine…people like what they like. Like I said earlier there are some tracks that do sound better but for me overall I dig what Nilsen did with the U.S. version.
You do somewhat have a point even though I still split up Robotnik from Eggman in my head to signify him being more serious.
They’re never going to show my nigga Mighty any love…
That’s perfectly fine. As I said, just opinions butting heads ^_^.
Nilsen isn’t a bad composer in the least. Have you played/listened to Ecco 1 or 2? It’s all good shit.
Everything was a lot more subtle back in the day, so he could actually be perceived as a serious villain since he never opened his mouth and actually occasionally did threatening things.
At the same time, though, some of the contraptions he comes at you in are ridiculous, especially in Sonic CD. That bumper walker can’t even realistically hurt Sonic XD.
Mighty has been on the unemployment line for a long ass time. I’m guessing maybe he wasn’t gettting paid enough in the Chaotix that he was just like ‘fuck this!’ and disappeared, but hey at least he showed up in at least 2 games. Better than Ray did.

don’t fall for the marketing
I’m pretty sure Ray is on welfare and Mighty’s been on unemployment for nearly 20 years now. Still, those guys are probably doing better than Gex and Bug.
Huge shortcuts. Man, I wonder how he discovered such glitches. He is literally breaking the game
Spagonia.

Wow. Makes me wonder how exactly they discover shit like this.
But then again, I guess most people wouldn’t have the presence of mind to turn around and stop in a game about running fast
Question…
Back when Sonic Adventure 2 came out, there were a bunch of rumors floating around the net, saying that Shadow’s memories were false. Something about how Maria didn’t exist and Prof. Gerald Robotnik programmed false memories into Shadow’s head in order to motivate him towards carrying out his revenge.
I don’t know how that shit started, but it spread rather far throughout the Sonic fanbase. Hell, many Sonic fan-sites were posting this crap as fact! I don’t remember it being mentioned in the games, so where the hell did people come up with the “false memories” bullshit?! Was some dialog in SA2 misinterpreted? Did somebody pull a Bob and George and mistake a fan-created Sonic story as canon, thus spreading rumors throughout the fanbase, causing a misinformation overload? Like I said, this wasn’t some small, easily-contained error, it spread like a fucking plague!
BTW, anybody who’s familiar with Bob and George should know what I was referring to.
