Sounds like a mix up to me. As far as my knowledge goes I don’t remember anything having to do with ‘false memories’. Prof. Gerald at first made shadow with Black Doom and when Gerald found out what Doom was really up to he programmed into Shadow to defend Earth if Black Doom was ever to show up again. This of course gets all fucked with the G.U.N. incident on Ark and Gerald basically decides to give everyone a last ‘fuck you!’ by instead setting up Ark to crash into Earth with Biolizard making sure for it to stay on course and giving Shadow his last orders of vengeance on Earth before facing the firing squad. That and Shadow’s misinterpretation of Maria’s last dying wish lead to the events of SA2.
Even more proof that he didn’t plant memories into shadow is the G.U.N. commanding officer (can’t remember his name) who tried to shoot him remembered every thing that happened on the Ark himself…even if he’s a dumbass.
Thanks, I sure as hell don’t remember any mentioning of “false memories” in the games, either. I’ve been meaning to get this off of my chest, because it had been bugging me for the past eight years.
I trust Sega to fuck this up, they always find a way to ruin a Sonic game.
EDIT: Not to be completely negative… if they FINALLY make a Sonic game on par with the first 3(+K), it’s another reason 2010 is shaping up to be one hell of a year in gaming.
I cry tears of blood and tears of joy. I’m pretty bittersweet on that trailer. However, an Unleashed 2 w/ only day stages would be nice enough but this? I reaaaaaaaaally hope they don’t slip up and die on this because this is the game that Sonic needs to stick his ass back on the map.
Edit: Unleashed was good, but its not THE game to get Sonic back on the right track. Enough with the experiments.

Well, it’s not like the console 3D games were entirely bad (I never played 06 though, I heard that was completely awful)… it’s just that ridiculous crap is added on top of everything they did right, making the game as a whole near-unplayable. For example, Unleashed was similar to Rush, and they screwed that up. But I’ll bite my tongue until more details show up.
2D Sonic on the console, eh? I wanna get stoked but after so many eff ups in the past, it really is hard to. The minute they introduce a gimmick, the game will be shot to crap.
No amount of screens, vids, or info will be sufficient until I actually PLAY it. We’ve been here before.
New Sonic game announced, followed by skepticism, and some promise, then omg it looks great! Sega is doing it right this time.
It comes out, and you got a new hedgehog, a lawn mowing mini game, and half the game you’re some slow shit, that is totally opposite of what the fuck we wanted in the first place.
Just add me on to the “I want to believe but Sonic Team is too retarded not to fuck this up” bandwagon. Anyone remember the first Sonic Unleashed trailer? That looked like IT. The REAL FUCKIN’ DEAL. And it almost was. The Sonic Team decided the game wasn’t shitty enough and added a werehog. WHO THE FUCK SAID “this game needs a werehog”? At least some of the other shitty decisions in Sonic history make sense. “We need to appeal to an American audience. Americans like shooting stuff. Let’s give Shadow guns.” “We want to add some more drama into the story. We need a romantic interest. However, everyone hates Rose, we’re for some reason contractually obligated to ignore everything from the only good Sonic TV show, and we’ve run out of woodland creatures. Fuck it, she can be human.” “Psychic powers are cool, let’s add a psychic hedgehog.” The werehog had no logic behind it. Which is exactly what will happen to this game. Sonic team will do something that’s so totally non-sequiter that no amount of solid 2D Sonic gameplay can save it. Like including a Guitar Hero style mini game that pauses the music every 5 seconds for a quick time event while Sonic plays football in first person trying to hide under a box. And the ending will be DLC. On another console.
Actually, Sonic Unleashed was pretty well ‘WTF, Sonic turns into a wolf?! LAME.’ in the beginning when the first details were leaked. Then everyone thought it was fake for a while until more details cropped up.
