For Sega’s sake I’d hope that it was fake but for some reason I doubt it.
Sonic CD(despite overated, it’s still solid) and Sonic Spinball and then the Rush Series.

sonic 2’s multiplayer was top easily…man we ran that shit in elementary school on good friday’s
tiers
Sonic 2 (2 player madness, birth of super sonic)
Sonic and Knuckles Complete version (when you beat sonic 3 the game would flow right into sonic and knuckles storyline)
Sonic CD JP version
Sonic Rush
Sonic Advance 3
well look at it like this, the hate can be spreaded around to more than one title
I’d gladly pay a full 60 for a Sonic Adventure 3 or another true 2d Sonic game.
Sega needs to put this game on XBLA
Also I’m pretty excited for Sonic & Sega Superstars Racing or whatever its called. I enjoyed Tennis for what it was.
Next full Sonic game needs to star Blaze The Cat imo.
Whats so good about the japan version of Sonic CD?
And you mentioned the GBA, how were those GBA sonic titles?
the game is identical, but the soundtrack is very different. The composer for the american version of CD was the same person that did the soundtrack for Batman Returns (I think, one of the batman games) for Sega CD. Some tracks remained though. However for some reason I cannot stand to listen to it solo, it has to be with the game for me to enjoy it.
and as for the GBA games, those are the closest we are ever going to get to a classic sonic experience for a while. 1 felt like the classic games, only more stop and go and less speed (imo, the game was a tad slow but heavier on platforming so its a fair trade). 2 was way faster and 3 was really more of the same, only with Sonic Heroes-esqe skill swapping depending on your partner. Overall they are all awesome, with 3 being my least favorite, collision detection feels a little spotty.
Am I the only one in thinking that overall the Spencer Nilsen did a better job than in the music in comparison the the japanese? I think the composition sounds better on most of them myself. I’ve often wondered what was so special about the Japanese tracks save for a few of them.

You’d think Sega would get the message that people want another Sonic Adventure game. Shit, Sonic Unleashed COULD’VE been a Sonic Adventure game if they substituted the Werehog for Knuckles and threw in some random Tails flying levels.
Would’ve been perfect.
I’ve never really seen what was so good about the JP Region soundtrack. Its good and there are some tracks that are better than its US counterpart but the majority of the US soundtrack is leaps and bounds better. Give me Sonic Boom any day of the week over the JP soundtrack.
i heard they are taking a break to figure out what they’re doing wrong
they should start by taking a look back at the year 2003…
this is when all went wrong…
And yet 2008 they sort of came back in the right direction with Unleashed but went back to shit with Black Knight afterwards.
I think this largely stems from two things: 1. GameFan magazine. 2: The Trope “They Changed It, Now It Sucks.” The GameFan reviewer pissed and moaned about the American OST in Sonic CD because he played the Japanese version first. In fact, he knocked off points because the music was changed (Sonichhuman, I’m sure you know all this, but I’m still saying for those who may not know). GameFan, having a ton of followers probably picked up said reviewer’s opinion and made it their own.
Also, the aforementioned Trope. No matter how good a change is, some people will hate it just because it was changed, or because it wasn’t the original. Meh.
Sonic Boom is WIN.
I really hope they take a break to reflect. Unleashed had some good things, like the Hedgehog Engine, and all that, but then went stupid by mixing Sonic with Kratos; it’s narrow minded thinking where they reach to other gameplay that’s already been done and throwing it in there even though it doesn’t make sense just to make the game ‘different’ or ‘long enough’. It’d be nice if they’d consider how to grow Sonic gameplay itself, rather than thinking any ol’ ‘other’ gameplay will somehow be the answer.
How about considering new ways of using friction and momentum in a Sonic game? I feel like there are many possibilities they just aren’t exploring.
Actually surprisingly I wasn’t aware of the whole GameFan thing though I can’t say I’m surprised. I mean it’s sort of almost like anime when you hear it in a particular language first and then often times you hear it in another and it just doesn’t do it for you. I’d definitely have to think out of the 2 reasons that the second one seems probably 65% more pull than the other and even more to the point that the second reason includes the first.
Even the music for the U.S. intro seems to fit better with what’s going on in the animation in comparison for me and seems to feel more epic.

One wish I have that I doubt would ever come is for if Sega does happen to make some type of new Sonic wiiware/xboxlive/psn downloadable title that I’d want to see the return of the hand animation style that was used for Sonic CD. I want more of it and the movie even if it was supposedly done by the same animation house didn’t feel like it had the same soul put into it like the ones done for Sonic CD.
I agree with you, the US soundtrack is waaaaaaaaaaaay better. Especially Sonic Boom over that crappy “toot toot Sonic Warrior” bullcrap.
If you’ve ever heard the Sonic Boom CD, won’t share links for obvious reasons but its got extened mixes of the entire soundtrack plus a remix of the first stage of Sonic Spinball, its all really good stuff and definitely a recommended listen if you rightly believe the US soundtrack is better.
Or maybe they’ll hate it because the original soundtrack was better in every way possible. Atmospheric and dark != Sonic.
Sonic CD is the best of that composer’s work. It even tops what he did with Sonic 2.
are you talking about the japanese version or the US version?
The JP version. I was mistaken about it being done by Masato Nakamura who did Sonic 2, but rather it was done by Naofumi Hataya & Masafumi Ogata.
People make fun of ‘Toot Toot Sonic Warrior’ and the Eggman rap being cheesy, but that’s kind of what Sonic is. It tries to be cool and over the top in a cheesy way.
The US OST isn’t terrible mind you (though it has several rather bland tracks) and Spencer Nilsen is a great composer (Ecco is an amazing atmospheric soundtrack), but it isn’t like Sonic at all. I don’t think atmospheric/trance when I think Sonic. I don’t hate it or anything, but I think the original OST is much better music; and definitely not just because some guy at GameFan whined about the US soundtrack.
