The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

Found a vid of a guy doing a ring collection run of adabat. He collected every single ring!

Is Unleashed a good game for classics veteran? (loved S3&K)

Sonic Rush is amazing
Sonic Rush Adventure is not.

SRA is full of the horrible ideas that have pervaded the console Sonic games since Sonic Adventure. Grind through levels repeatedly to get different items to open the next stage. Constant cutscenes and story. Boring non-sidescrolling stages that ruin the game.
I could go on, but I don’t like to think about SRA.

Seeing how good the running stages are in the PS3/360 version, I personally would say…yes.

Wow…I’m definitely impressed with both what that guy did and how many branching pathways Sega actually put into that stage. I’ve seen different areas that I didn’t even know existed.

If you can survive sitting through the werehog sections then yes…this game will be the closest current Sonic game to choose out of everything else that’s come out in the past 3 years.

Nobody can survive the werehog sections.

Just ignore every console game and pick up the 3 Sonic Advance games and Sonic Rush for DS. Sonic Rush is the best sonic game since S3&K.

Oh c’mon, SRA isn’t that bad. The levels are fun, the jetski is fun, the bosses are fun, okay the other boats sucked, but oh well. The levels were fun.

Werehog sections aren’t that bad IMO but I know other people have different tastes.

And I can’t agree with you on SRA being horrible. It basically had more of the same of SR with some smaller flaws here and there. That game is definitely at least in the upper mid tier of sonic games. That being said…I don’t think SRA is better than SR…if anything it’s a very tiny step below it. I don’t see how you can seem to say SR is ‘amazing’ and then a game that for the most part has more of the same be suddenly ‘horrible’. I’d like to hear your explaination.

I will say this: the levels were just as good as SR. My problem isn’t so much the game itself, but the idea that Sega had gotten it with Sonic Rush and then mucked it all up with ideas that were not needed. None of the fluff was there, just levels and a level select screen. It was so frustrating going through all the extraneous material in SRA just to get to the good parts, considering it’s predecessor was just good parts.

Note that I did not call SRA horrible, just that it is full of the horrible elements that were thankfully absent from previous handheld excursions.

Yes, I probably have overreacted about SRA’s issues, but it’s just that they didn’t need to be there and they severely hampered my enjoyment of the game. It’s not like I didn’t try to get past the issues. I’ve played it repeatedly to try and get into it, and I can’t. When I’m playing through a stage thinking “YES, this is so sweet. Holy crap! This is nuts!”, and then have to jetski and play through levels over and over just to play the next stage, that’s when I give up. I don’t want to have to go through obviously game-lengthening padding just to play the game.

In all, I don’t hate SRA when it’s focused on Sonic running to the right. Everything else just frustrates me because it doesn’t need to be there.

I realize that I’m probably not a very patient person when it comes to Sonic games, I would rather throw in SR and get right down to it than work my way to a level in SRA.

Unleased demo was fun but not something I’d pay more then $30 for, sonic rush adventure was almost as good as sr1 imo.

New sonic kart looks kinda fun though once again even if it turns out good it’s not something I’d pay cfull price for.

Dimps>sonic team.

BTW rented sbk what a piece of shit game.

Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 are on XBLA for 400 points each, and later in the summer Sonic & Knuckles is going to be available for 400 points. If you buy all three, you can supposedly “lock on” Sonic & Knuckles to the other two. Not bad for 1200 and infinitely wiser than buying any Sonic game made by Sonic Team and/or in 3D.

Just sayin’.

Dr. B can lock on to certain other doctors to increase his abilities exponentially. For instance, Dr. B and Dr. K can merge into Dr. BK, a combined being with the power to immediately grant sweet release to those who long for it and make sweet-ass websites.

Is it sure that you can lock on them? I was very dissapointed with Sega Mega Drive Collection where S3 was present, S&K was present, but you couldn’t S3&K them…

Unleashed isn’t full priced anymore from what I remember. It’s 49.99 new right now. If they dropped it another 10 bucks I’d probably say the game is worth it.

aaand yup…told you about S&BK

I actually don’t think Sonic with a sword was such a bad idea if it was done correctly. Sonic could run through people and keep on going and it wouldn’t break the pace of the game and him having the sword out and doing the buzzsaw spin is actually pretty cool. But they fucked up so it’s ass.

Know what else is a good idea? Sonic running though people by jumping on them.
I keep ragging on Sonic, but the good ideas are there! Sonic Team just ignores them.

Sonic and the Black Knight was a step backwards.

With Sonic Unleashed you could at least see that SEGA was taking baby steps towards what fans wanted. We got the fast Sonic stages at the expense of their idea of making sonic a werehog. Didn’t mind the night stages though.

You’d think they would remake the originals like they did with New Mario Bros for the DS

That would be taking the easy way out even though it would be a good idea.

I actually think it’s about time they actually grabbed some 2d artists and completely overhauled 1-3k. How many times have they released these games over the course of the past 5 years or so? Sonic mega collection, sonic ultimate genesis collection, Virtual console, xbox live arcade, a shitty ass gba port of Sonic 1 (god damn just thinking of that port makes me feel a bit of rage), and Sonic Jam. At least when Nintendo often rereleases their old games they may do something to them like with Super Mario All-Stars or the GBA Super Mario Advance lineup. I think it’s been seriously long overdue TBH.

Speaking of which…how’s Sonic 2 HD going along?
