C’mon, at least admit the quality of that CGI is top-notch.
I think that Sonic might race a car as a sport, for fun. It was just stupid to have Shadow driving cars around during an emergency like he actually NEEDED to.
That game could be entertaining if done right. The problem is that SEGA doesn’t usually handle their shit well.
CGI is top notch of course Remy…but we aren’t talking about the CGI. If the game was based off of the CGI then sure the most recent sonic games would be getting 8’s and 9’s…but it ain’t. Pixar quality animation does not a game make unfortunately.
IGN Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Hands-on:
there’s already problems and it sounds that Sega brought the game a little bit too early…or did they? :bluu:
I ain’t fallin for this shit no more on the real, Sega PR be damned. I love the character but I’m tired of seeing him get raped with every fuckin game.
Sonic as a character and icon can’t get ‘raped’ or degraded; the awesomeness of his Genesis games, among a few other games still make him a timless icon, and no bad game can change that.
Man one of these days I should get around to reviewing Sonic 3
Oh yeah I bought the PC ver. of Sonic R for my nephews to mess around with :V
According to that article, their only major complaint was problematic framerate. The thing I’m really most worried about is how well drifting will control. Most kart-ripoffs have really poor and hard-to-control drifts, and that is IMO the biggest thing keeping any others from matching the Mario Kart franchise.
CTR’s drift was pretty good and if you use it right you can get not only a speed boost but be able to get past some sections.
Also kart ripoffs is a bit or a ridiculous term.
Just saw that GT gameplay clip and the game looks neat.
I recall both Adventure titles AND their GC rehashes as being alpha state games with questionable gameplay choices, like treasure hunting and fishing over solid platforming (and yes, this includes the Sonic/Shadow “hold up and watch a cutscene” segments).
If Dr. B did do that, he’d ensure that each variation was extensively playtested and not just rushed out the door to make a quick buck.
Shadow Ace 50, do you know when it drops? I might be meeting some of you guys online because this looks solid. Like a good Mario Kart clone. And any Mario Kart CLONE is good. Companies fuck up when they try to do TOO MUCH.
That’s why I spoke on the AllStar moves. Even if it it is once a race, I can see myself going neck and neck with Joe Mushashi(who’s riding a horse) then all of a sudden dude activates All-Star move and fucking slices my cart in half and rides a shuriken to the finish line. Items wouldn’t be a problem since they are general. But in crucial races no doubt you’d have All Star moves being way more effective than others.
Anyway, not a nitpick. Game looks to be fun. Id play it everyonce in a while since im not getting my new SSX. But Sonic Team does not need to try too much. Easy does it, classic fun wins.
P.S. I saw that they have those Sonic Riders still tracks with the “sharp turn or DEATH!”. Never really liked those because while it was a problem for me, it eliminates pick up and play aspect for others. Which Mario Kart is eternal for.
Ok I saw the developer’s video on this game on GT. I’ll say that I’m surprised for now…however I am in no way building any type of hype for this game. They’re going to have to do a lot of proving this time.
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing - Developer Walkthrough
So basically allstar moves is basically Mario Kart 64 Blue shell 1.5. I don’t know exactly what to think about that since this basically means that there’s a good chance that 80% of the time during the race people in the back are gonna be flying all the way up to first…plus possibly fucking over everyone else a long the way. Blue Shell is annoying…but it ain’t that overpowered.
I heard that after the massacre that was sonic 06 “staff adjustments” were made meaning that this has high potential…
sonic all-star tennis, unleashed, and ultimate genisis were made after that for the 360 and ps3…hmm
since you get it once per race and we dont know all the effects it can screw you over big…factor in obstacles and sharp turns (i.e falling off the sides or running itno something while in all-star mode) I could be in 5th and someone in 8th activates all-star mode and I get a star item (invincibility) so it misses me when it runs past getting me 2nd place
I hope there is variety in all-star moves and not just full charge first place rushdowns (shadow:chaos control (slows down everyone))
I think it looks like potential for a good Mario Kart clone. SEGA does seem to have that “touch of shit” though for some reason. I would like to know who all is going to be in this. Confirmed already:
Sonic
Tails
Amy Rose
Shadow
Big
Dr Robotnik
Amigo
AiAi
Billy Hatcher
I would be incredibly shocked if NiGHTS isn’t on the cast list too. Others I would certainly like to see: Ristar, Vectorman, Beat, Kid Chameleon, and one of the Crazy Taxi drivers. It would also be really cool to have Axel or Blaze from Streets of Rage, in a kart that looks like a police car, and with that mortar launcher from the first game as the All-Star Move. Sadly, as much as I love Comix Zone, I don’t think Sketch would fit this art style at all.
I agree that All-Stars moves need to have variety. Tails’ should actually let him fly for a bit. Shadow’s should definitely be a Chaos Control time slow/stop. I really hope that they aren’t all forward charges.
I haven’t enjoyed a Sonic game in a long time… I loved the shit out of the Genesis and GBA ones though. Sonic Adventure 2 was great too… well, the Sonic and Shadow stages were at least.
How’s that latest one for DS, any good?
Still, I really wish Sega would give Sonic a break for a while and develop some games that their fans actually want. Such as Shenmue 3 or Jet Set Radio 3.
Yeah, I also liked Apotos Day Act 1-2. Apotos Day Act 4 is also really good, except for the damn 5-button stunt ramp with a 1 second timer right at the end of the level. That thing can ruin a perfect S rank run like nothing.
