The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

I’ve played Shadow. The alien invasion arc was stupid.
Archie did it first. And it was arguably just as stupid.

The archie series may not have had Princess Beastiality in it, but then again, you think serious Sonic plots are stupid? That’s pretty much all Archie Sonic was. Stupid serious Sonic plots. From nonsensical deaths and rebirths of random characters (Hell, they killed off Eggman at one point only to make him come back in his post Sonic Adventure form when that came out) to plot threads that flat out don’t belong :P.

And this is better than Sega’s version? At least 2006 had the decency to retcon itself.

The point I’m trying to make is that none of them is better than each other. They’re all bad in some way or some shape for taking Sonic and co. so seriously and trying to weave in retarded and far fetched plots which aren’t even executed properly.

And even then Sega of Japan was probably watching them like a hawk

Tails wasn’t really ‘deified’ so much that he was just destined to stop something that do more than fuck up the world’s couch. That problem is long gone now and that story arc reached it’s conclusion. The story never rebooted and didn’t need to be.

And the Xorda (aliens from the comic) were already fuckin up shit before the comic’s timeline apparently. They showed up within the timeline after the SA2 adaptation and Shadow

speaking in terms of the comic, Ian Flynn (current writer for the comic) did this thing which I thought was interesting…and also hurt my brain but it helped sort out some of the confusion that occured due to 2006 and Blaze’s story.

it’s good chunk…but he actually like went back to japanese material and all that jazz to gather all the stuff and formulate this. With all that it also brings Rivals into the timeline as well.

Edit:

Press Start: Up to Code

the random reference to SA2 in here made me lol

Then we’re in agreement? O_o

Huh, from reading you responding to how Archie’s Sonic plots were worse than Sega’s, I thought you were defending Sega. My bad.

But yeah, I suppose you could say we’re in agreement.

They went pretty fine until Sonic Heroes (it sounds a bit cheesy, but it worked much better than their recent efforts) but it seems like they just wanted to make Sonic even more ‘edgier’ and ‘cooler’ with various kinds of seriously mangled plots. For such a game series like this, I don’t think we really need that kind of stuff, to be honest.

I liked Heroes’ plot because it was just filler to motivate the characters and nothing more. It didn’t try to be anything edgy or hip or have ZOMG PLOT TWISTZ.

Lol I couldn’t stand Heroes. Overemphasizing the cheesy “teamwork” and “lets do it together guys”. I’m an original Chaotix fan so I got the game because they were in but when I beat Heroes side, I simply couldnt take anymore of it.

It’s probably still in that dormroom to this day. Underneath a dresser or something.

I agree; I definitely don’t think Sonic’s suited to take itself seriously. Hell, cheesy and light-hearted is the formula that worked since Sonic 2 gave us an epic Dragon Ball Z and Star Wars parody in one game.

When they try to make Sonic serious, it just fails. Over and over.

Before I begin, just in case I’ve never said it before: I despise Sonic Team and everything they stand for.

I disagree with Adventure 2 being a quality title (it had monstrous problems), but I will say that there are a bunch of NA devs I’d love to see given the Sonic franchise. Naughty Dog is one of those developers. As is Bungie, a dev that spends fucktons of time testing and tuning their games.

If I ever took over Sega, I’d actually retcon that whole game despite the fact that it technically never happened. I’d do to it what Family Matters did to that little girl who was inexplicably dropped from the cast one day.

I liked Team Sonic’s banter during that game. “Eggman’s got some serious problems. Look at that statue!”

Id like to see a much darker setting for a sonic game…blood, scars, etc.

eggman more serious and less dumb (if its one thing sonic underground did right was metal robotnik…he was more of a dictator…)

less new characters…bring back old school (Bean,Bark,Nac(fang)

ill stop…

Sonic Heroes 2…custom teams…that is all

Yeah, I liked that too. I also liked how the characters would shout warnings to each other and talk about the kinds of enemies and obstacles they were facing. It really felt like they truly were a team.

THIS! I’ve wanted that ever since I beat the first Heroes.

Now go upstairs and clean your room!

she never returns

@specs: General gameplay issues aside, it’s obvious that SA2 was the last Sonic game that Sonic Team put genuine effort into.

Agreed on Naughty Dog as well. Dunno about today, but the old Naughty Dog team were huge Sonic fans.

Sonic Unleashed is a good and fun game, I really don’t see why people hate on it. Day time levels are amazing, night stages are entertaining but are overshadowed by the better day stages.

its a gimmick. thats why i hate it.

I really loved sonic unleashed. It’s a fun game. The day stages are very well designed with tons of shortcuts and the night stages have some tough platforming especially the later ones. I only wish that sega could give us PS3 only owners the cool DLC which the 360 version has along with the patch that fixes some frame rate issues.

I agree, thats what the series was all about. I only liked Sonic Adventure 2 for the fact that it had shadow and his stages were fun, but other than that I rather have the stages be more about speed than anything else.

ATM 151,000 is my highest score in Sonic 2 ^^;;;
Oh and I played it without getting the Emeralds and dieing at the Wing Fortress Boss…annoying laser beam >

I don’t feel that that’s necessarily true Zan especially in terms of Unleashed. Unleashed they definitely tried in but the werehog mechanic didn’t work out. Bk they definitely put some effort into but that game is questionable since there were so many things in that game that could have easily have been tweaked and it would have been better.

I guess I’m the only one who hates Jak & Daxter? The only Naughty Dog game I like is Uncharted, and I’d really rather not see SEGA let Naughty Dog make a Sonic game IMO.
