I know right? I’m definitely gonna want to hear what they have to say on this game since the only gimmick this time is the sword…and he’s actually running through people with it for the most part.
After seeing that trailer, I was less thinking Unleashed and more ‘Secret Rings again’.
I hope I’m wrong. I really, really do.
Hmm, looks good enough. Sonichuman, hopefully those controls would be pretty simple and would put that arm to work lol. It is for the Wii after all.
You want some evidence that’s it’s more unleashed like?
Knight Trailer:
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14268379/sonic-the-black-knight-/videos/sonicknight_trailer_011609.html
almost like the other trailer except with some new video shots…including one with 2d side scroll and uh…Sonic in pimped out knight gear? Xzibit must have visited him…
‘YO DAWG! I heard you like Knight Armor!..’
I thought they simply wanted something good.
I am sure sonic and the black knight would score well. For some weird reason, the wii versions of the sonic games score well on IGN. The gameplay looked good and the graphics look awesome on the wii. They should bring this to the “next gen” consoles.
I think that has to do something with Matt Casamassina and the way how he reviews games. IMO he’s probably the best reviewer out of the entire IGN staff and it kinda sucks that he’s only doing reviews for just the Wii side of the site.
I’m gonna try hard not to get hyped until I have sufficient evidence on this title…meaning every last one of my fears has been covered. 1) How tight are the controls? 2) Is the motions for the sword swipes gimmicky…or does it feel natural? 3) How do the other characters play? (even with them being somewhat optional from what I understand) 4) What is the leveling system going to be leveling up this time since they’re supposed to be moving further away from the ‘lvl up better controls’?
Hoping my questions will get answered at least around the middle of Feb.
Anyone seen that artwork of Shadow as Lancelot? Kinda reminds me of Meta-knight for some reason.
I agree with you Sonichuman; I also fear that the controls will end up being too gimmicky. But goddamn the trailer makes it look so fun.
Watching the videos so far, I can safely say that the ‘gimmick’ of the sword doesn’t get in the way of the gameplay…that fear I had has been put to rest. The only way the sword won’t work well now is if the controls for the wii mote aren’t done properly. Everything’s heading in a favorable direction right now. More like Unleashed daytime stages? check Playing as sonic and no derivation there of? check Game gimmick doesn’t effect the speed of the game? check Sonic’s friend’s optional? check (especially this…I think this will be perfect until they can get sonic’s gameplay down while satisfying fans of the other characters). I’m trying to think of other things that they’ve complained about…from both Unleashed and secret rings that they haven’t shown to have addressed. OH…the whole not being able to turn around thing in secret rings. I didn’t have too much of a problem with it but it was an issue. That may have been fixed somewhat if it’s actually gonna be more like Unleashed but I haven’t seen anything in the vids as evidence yet.
1 thing that I’m fairly sure reviewers are going to neg on this game though is the soundtrack since crush 40 is back. They’re already negging it completely based off of the title track. Thing is though supposedly they’re going to revisit some old sonic themes and put them in a Celtic style according to the wiki.
and no I haven’t seen any artwork on any of the other characters…mind posting it?
It’s in the latest Nintendo Power. I haven’t seen it online. There is a pic of Sonic and Lancelot Shadow crossing swords.
And word… I like Crush 40. No idea why reviewers hate on them.
And once again, America gets fucked over with shitty opening music while Japan has awesome shit playing.
Wha? When? Where?
Well, that would be pretty darn awesome.
I’m not ashamed to admit that “Sonic Heroes” has been on my mp3 player on more than one occasion…
Just played the 360 demo of Sonic Unleashed and I noticed how different the gameplay is than the PS2 version. It’s still enjoyable, but the fact that I had to push a separate button for the Homing Attack threw me off quite a bit. Hell, I also noticed that the 360 version’s gameplay is like an improved version of the Sonic Adventure engine, while the PS2 version seems to have been built for straight-up speed.
Oh, and Sonic and the Black Knight looks way better than I thought, but I’m still waiting for a surefire sign of whether the game is actually good or not.
As much as I love Sonic CD for it’s cool levels and kickass soundtrack. I gotta say that Sonic 3 & Knucles was my personal favorite. Thet game had an epic atmosphere, especially when you reached the last four levels. The boss fights were challenging, unlike CD’s which focused on how to get to Eggman. And the music was on par with CD’s soundtrack but it felt like S3 had more pop and memory to it.
Ice Cap anyone?

You guys do realize that, like every other new Sonic game, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment, right?
“Hey the trailer makes this Sonic game look like fun! Look out fast it is!”
Game comes out
SRK plays it

So the word on Unleashed seems to be the actual Sonic levels are great but the Werehog levels are ass. Why must they throw in BS and fuck up Sonic games.
I disagree. The werewolf levels have enjoyable platforming elements and easy but entertaining combat. They are also a nice breather between the insanely fast levels.
The speed levels are definitely a lot more fun though.
I picked up Sonic the Hedgehog issues #193-195. Good stuff is going on in this book. Nice to be reading Sonic again. I wonder if I should pick up Sonic X. I’ve only caught a few episodes. I don’t think it’s bad but the edits have annoyed me. Not sure if I’d dig the comic.
Eggmanland(ps3/360) is insanely tough. Some of the platforming with the werehog is downright unforgiving. The sonic sections are also pretty tough with nasty traps. It took me like 10 tries on the werehog pipe sections alone on my first playthrough. I was playing the ps2 version, and was suprised at how lenient that level was on the ps2. Sure, it was tough in some areas, but manageable. The ps3/360 is just insane even with the shortcuts.
