The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

Given that I held UP and jumped through most of Final Egg, Final Rush, and Final Chase, and that Unleashed shares a great many similarities to the titles those levels come from, I’m going to stand by what I said.

Agree with werehog…even though I didn’t have as much of a problem with camera as you sound like you had. Definitely agree about the being able to climb on any ledge…I was thinking the same thing that if they were going to do something like this they should have made every ledge climbable.

Speed I feel is where it needs to be…once you learn where everything is in the stage…you should be going balls to the wall insanely fast through it and memorizing where stuff is.

Told ya it was another step in the right direction…Homing attack button switch fucked with my head as well for a moment. I don’t see how you find it to be auto-pilot but eh that’s your take on it. I say you should at least rent it and play as much as you can of it but that’s just me.

I had already stated that time and time again…I don’t understand where this notion of running through a sonic game perfect on the first time without running into stuff came from lol. You always run into stuff the first couple of times until you learn the stage unless you’re going through the stage at a fairly slow pace.

Edit:

lol’d…and it’s kinda sad…but eh can’t win em all right?..RIGHT!?

Not only are you talking to someone who isn’t ‘freaking’ (what a weird definition you have of that word), you’re talking to a person who has been reminding people that the old Sonic Genesis games were 25% ‘high speed’ and 75% platforming puzzles.

Work on your aim.

?

Sure, I’ll work on my aim…the next time I’m…umm…attacking someone…?
Which I wasn’t…

“No need to freak” = “Don’t worry”

Sorry if my 90’s lingo startled you.

Ahhh, I see. Your strange and confusing terminology clearly bewilders me. Sorry for the mixup.

Good point on the “You never are that good at a level in Sonic the first time through.” That is a VERY good point. Still doesn’t make me wrong though. Having the camera zoomed and angled right to make it easier to see would be nice when jumping on platforms in this game and have you guys tried turning around in a 3D running section? It’s like turning an 18 wheeler. Camera HATES not looking forward. I think Sonic Adventure/2 got the running/platforming ratio right.

yes i’ve turned around in the 3d sections…I’ve watched my cousin do it extensively when he missed a sun or moon medal as well and it only takes like 2 seconds for the camera to flip itself back around to see where you’re going from what I’ve seen so far. He’s even gone back through a big portion of the level and the camera completely flips and follows sonic so you can see where he’s going…not like SA and SA2 where the camera goes ‘FUCK YOU…we’re doing this my way…or not at all!’ when you’re trying to go back for something. I did notice that the turning in the WiiPs2 game was overall really tough when you just wanted to turn around or do a tight circle…which isn’t the case in the PS360 version. I’ve been playing both so I definitely can tell the differences in how sonic handles and just overall between those games. Sonic’s only harder to tight turns only when you’re going at blazing speeds…that’s why you have the drift.

while reading through the thread of the new tmnt game on neo gaf…I spotted that some people in there were mentioning Black Knight. So apparently…there’s some new information on Black Knight in the January issue of Nintendo Power…if you happen to see it and read through it…post up the info please!

Apparently Blaze shows up in this game…that’s what they’re saying. Where in the hell is she coming from? lol

Actually…I decided to follow the source and this is apparently from the article in Nintendo Power

Source:

Edit: also doing some snooping on wikipedia…and saw this little tidbit…

also interesting tid bit on the music side…

wow…really? They’re throwing in the guy who did the Saturn version of Sonic 3d blast, Sonic R and Sonic chronicles?

I stroke my chin at this new information…

I’m not gonna lie, Richard Jacques’ version of Rusty Ruin was awesome.

It says Act II, but I’m pretty sure that its supposed to be Act I.

I like some of Jacques stuff even though I find Jun’s Genesis soundtrack more catchy to my ears…this is fine though cause we’re going to be getting both worlds in one game with a side of Tallarico for good measure. The soundtrack already sounds like it’s set up to be win for me…now I want to see more of how this game flows in action.

The PS3 version of sonic unleashed is pretty good from what I’ve read. Here is what a gamefaqs poster said. I know gamefaqs is hated here, but this is the only post that shows the differences between both versions and some changes to the loading screen.

Oh shit Blaze playable in Black Knight too? That’s great! Still though, I swear to God that Tails had better be or i will be mighty fucking pissed.

I think that IGN and Gamespot were only hating on the 360 version for whatever reason. They actually gave the Wii version 7s and, for some reason, they say it’s a “vastly superior experience” (from Gamespot).

Don’t know what to say about this; still haven’t bought the game yet, and still thinking about what version to get (lol?).

Don’t know if this is nationwide, but I just noticed that the animated short “Night of the Werehog” is available on my Comcast Cable On Demand.

I remember seeing footage from it on Gametrailers a while ago (the vid where Chip is in a haunted house being scared by ghosts).

Anywho, just wondering if anyone else has seen it. It’s not too shabby. Hopefully, it’ll get people to try out Unleashed…

yeah i believe most of us watched it…I enjoyed it myself being an animation fan and all. Sega has some pixar type quality to their stuff now which I’m digging.

roninwarrior24:

most of the reviewers have been knocking Sonic Unleashed for Hub World and werehog…Ps2wii versions don’t have a hubworld but put in more werehog levels…you also don’t have to search for the medals in the stages and it’s more dependent upon how you complete the stage. A lot of features were also zapped from this version of the game like a lot of the werehog’s moves.

I think it’s going to be a preference thing…apparently reviewers hate hubworlds now and depending upon how you approach unleashed is going to depend upon your enjoyment of it. If you go in expecting 2 different gameplay styles then this game should be a fine distraction. If you’re one of the people where anything that detracts from ‘omg speeeeeed’ is bad then unleashed may at best be a rental.

IMO having played the wii version and beaten it (haven’t completed it yet) and playing the 360 version…I’m enjoying the 360 version a bit more…I don’t know about other peoples sentiments though.

360 version > wii version. Way better controls. I mean the double tap for dash and the werehog’s guard breaking claw move got to be problematic in the Wii version. The 360 version doesn’t have that problem and the levels, both werehog and sonic, are way more fun. I still enjoy the werehog, there is something about giving a two story monster a German Suplex that just doesn’t get old.

Dang…can’t do that move in PS2. I’d suplexing those stupid bee monsters off cliffs left and right if I could.

And, yet Xbox version gets a 3.5 rating…

Played the PS3 version for a couple hours now, and yes it is better. OMG this game is win, those reviewers can fuck themselves.

On Sonic & the Black Knight:
I was thinking that the Black Knight will probably turn out to be Arthur. Much like how the villain in Secret Rings turned out to be the Genie of the Lamp from Aladdin. If the other characters are Knights of the Round Table, then I’m guessing:

 • Tails = Merlin
 • Shadow = Lancelot
 • Amy = Guenevere
 • Knuckles = Perceval
 • Blaze = ?

You can’t Suplex the bee things unless it comes as an upgrade. But the Suplex is a critical finish for one of the giant monsters. You can link Shoryu to SPD on everything in the entire game though, those bee things don’t stand a chance.
