Late response (didn’t see this 'til now). No matter how good it looks, its developer’s track record speaks for itself. Plenty of good looking games are horrible: Odin Sphere, most Final Fantasy titles, etc.
Here’s what will make me lean over to yes: overwhelmingly positive reviews after release, with reviews that, collectively, point to a fun, cohesive, release-quality titles with solid mechanics (i.e., no Dave Halverson perfect 10 bullshit).
Sonic 2
Sonic 3 + Knuckles
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic 3
Knuckles’ Chaotix (bad ending theme music is literally BOSS)
Sonic Spinball
Sonic 2 + Knuckles
Sonic 1 (infinite spike death is BAD.) everything else
ha lol I got a sonic shirt as well…but it’s the sonic x design shirt that has him dashing forward and it’s sort of neon bluish outline with ‘Super Sonic Speed’. Favorite shirt and I have a sonic wristband that I wear all the time as a subtle part of my attire that’s blue and black with the OG sprite of him running on it.
The spindash was perfectly implemented because it didn’t degenerate the basic run n jump game play in fact it enhanced it being a fun tool to use every once in a while but not really being necessary. It was just an extra option that doesn’t get in the way but was fun to use during some sections (spirals on emerald zone for example.)
Zoolander approves this post.
Beyond the fun of playing a game I’ve always appreciated the design of games and how all the pieces come together. S2 first and foremost had such incredible level design behind it you can pick apart each zone and see how each obstacle and line of track was meant for sonic to run and jump through. For all the fancy bells and whistles S3 had it just doesn’t have as perfect a balance between speed n and platforming as S2 (chemical plant act1 and oil zone are the best examples) S2 is the only truly flawless game I’ve ever played.
Also worth mentioning is how S2 has the best damn music in any game ever not only were the beats catchy n upbeat as hell but they all melded perfectly with the theme of each zone. Never got old or annoying no matter how often the tracks looped but nothing is more subjective in a game then it’s music so to each his or her own.
I’m not taking away from S3 in fact it’s my 2nd favorite game of all time I’m just saying that at it’s core the S2 zones gave him a better albeit more linear path to showcase his momentum which in turn made the game a bit more fun. S3 added a ton of new shit and while obviously sonic it was a very different experience then S2 and is one of the few sequels in history to radically change shit up without messing up the original formula that made it fun in the first place.
I mostly agree with sonichuman on why 3&K is better IMO. I think 3&K’s level design felt better, with more branching paths and even some paths that only certain characters could take. The one edge I will give 2 is the music. While I enjoy a lot of 3&K’s music too, 2’s overall soundtrack is better and also tends to match the feel of the zone better.
I’m curious how you can not like Rush. Care to explain please?
Chao can suck me. Two full playthroughs of Chronicles and I am still missing 1 breed of Chao.
Full breakdown on Chronicles
[details=Spoiler] Sonic: For stats, focus primarily on Luck. The extra crit will somewhat counterbalance his lower-end damage output, plus Luck affects odds of getting Ambushed, Ambushing, and Chao quality. Attack and Speed are also important. Give him damage-boosting gear and the increased XP gain chao (this chao is sadly unique). Also consider giving him the PP cost reducing trinket.
Axe Kick > Fastball > Blue Bomber > Hailstorm > Triple Tornado > Whirlwind Tails: Defense is the best stat to upgrade for him, since he is a caster-type. Speed will also be of some benefit. Give him the PP restore trinket, and the team PP restore chao.
Medi-bot > Adrenaline Rush > Scan > Flash Bang > Shield-bot > Tinker Knuckles: Attack will be your primary concern, though don’t ignore Speed or Luck.
Uppercut > Quake Punch > Revolver Slam > Hard Line > Knuckles Express > Knuckles Sandwich Amy Rose: Again focus on Attack, with a lesser focus on Speed and Luck.
Low Blow > Blow Kiss > Tantrum > Flower Power > Tarot Draw > Spin Cycle Cream: Since she is basically an alternate to Tails, pretty much the same setup here. Except that IMO she should keep Cheese equipped.
Refresh > Heal > Revive > Cure > Demoralize > Toughen Big: Defense is your main concern. All stats are of some benefit to Big though since he will attack and tank. Give him the damage taken reduction chao.
Taunt > Feel No Pain > Battering Ram > Froggy Rain > Froggy Kiss > Trip Line Shadow: Like the other offensive characters, Attack is your main concern with a lesser focus on Speed and Luck. The trinket that reduces PP cost of specials is a good choice, since 3 actions per turn can eat up PP very fast.
Chaos Spear > Chaos Blast > Atomic Strike > Focus Field > Chaos Rift > Metal Storm Rouge: Luck is your main concern here, as you will need it if you want to do well with Rouge. Plus more frequent crits will semi-make up for her pathetic damage.
Jewel Storm > Plunder > Distract > Rising Knuckles > Shriek > Tornado Kick E-123 OMEGA: I would recommend focusing on Attack and Speed as I hardly ever see OMEGA crit anyway. Give him a damage boosting chao for sure, and pump out that AOE damage.
Beam Cannon > Machine Gunner > Flamethrower > Wrecking Ball > Temporal Field > Blazing Tornado Dr Robotnik: Treat him like any other damage-dealing character.
Bombardment > Sabotage Shade: Another purely offensive character.
Echidna Rush > Blade Rush > Blade Drop > Cloak
Party recommendations to fully explore map:
These parties include special effects that you might want for helping fight unique enemies in the area, and will also give you all powers needed to fully explore each map. A more general recommendation for just winning fights is Sonic/Tails/OMEGA and either Big for bosses, or Knuckles or Shadow for regular combat. Green Hill Zone: You will have to wait until you get Knuckles in your party to fully explore this area. At that point, recommended party would be Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Amy. Central City: Again you will have to wait for Knuckles to completely explore. Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Amy. Mystic Ruins: Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Big. Blue Ridge Zone: Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Shadow.
**Metropolis & Angel Island:**Sonic/Knuckles/Shadow/Cream and Tails/Robotnik/Amy/Big until you can swap Big with OMEGA; use Sonic/Knuckles/Tails/Big on the boss Metropolis pt 2: Sonic/Shade/Amy/Cream Kron Colony: Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Amy - enemies here have a lot of armor, so armor pierce is good here N’rrgal Colony: Sonic/Tails/Amy/Big Zoah Colony: Sonic/Tails/Shade/Big - Big’s Shield III isn’t needed, but there’s a lengthy sequence of boss-like fights that he will be handy in Voxai Colony Beta: Sonic/Cream/Shade/OMEGA - enemies here apply poison, so having Cream instead of Tails for healing is nice since she can Cure Voxai Colony Alpha: Sonic/Cream/Shade/OMEGA - more poison enemies Nocturnus: Sonic/Tails/Shadow/OMEGA and Knuckles/Shade/Cream/Big; use Sonic/Tails/OMEGA/Big for the last boss during phase 3.[/details]
It’s very easy, even for an RPG, and certainly not my kind of game. But the humorous writing, coupled with BioWare’s clear handle on these characters’ abilities and personalities, and my own love for the universe made it still enjoyable to play for a week.
God damn the va’s for Tails and Sonic sound like they’re holding their nose and talking or something…Tails more so than Sonic. I wanna hand him a kleenex or somethin.
Edit:
Metal Robotnik:…don’t relax yet…I’m well aware that NEITHER ONE OF YOU CAN SWIM!
wow…I just now caught on to that…someone fucked up.
Edit2:
The people in this thread to the right of the movie are dumb lol.
Sonic: YOU MAY KNOW EVERYTHING THAT I’M GOING TO DO…BUT THAT’S NOT GOING TO HELP YOU CAUSE I KNOW EVERYTHING THAT YOU’RE GOING TO DO! SSTTRRANNGE…ISN’T IT!? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
Edit:
God damn…seeing this movie after so many years…it’s like seeing Street Fighter the movie as a child and then watching it again years later.
There’s entirely too many lol worthy moments in this movie.
I’m wondering exactly how this is going to be played…I’d imagine with nunchuk and wii mote now plus it looks like there can be different ways to take out enemies as your moving
I still have that movie on VHS, bought it in 1999. ADV Films obviously cranked this one out to cash in on the upcoming release of the Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure. Ever since I saw the trailer for the original Japanese version on the Sonic Jam movie gallery, I was so psyched to see this thing in English! However, when I popped it into the VCR, I was disgusted by the voices for Sonic and Tails!
Sonic was squeaky and obnoxious, Tails sounded like Milhouse with sinus congestion, and Knuckles had the voice Sonic SHOULD HAVE had!
