[details=Spoiler]I love Shadow’s portrayal in this. The begrudging respect for and subtle annoyance at Sonic’s group is totally spot on. This is the best Shadow portrayal in a long while.

Why does Amy get Smash III before Knuckles?[/details]

I like all of the character portrayals honestly. I think BioWare has a better handle on how these characters should think and behave than SEGA has lately.

Knuckles never gets Smash III, only Amy does. Amy has the highest base attack in the game. Just that other characters get higher-damage specials and/or armor pierce while Amy favors status infliction in her specials.

The ‘not quite Vegeta but if this was dbz I would be him’ portrayal lol.

I know I am. But I was before.

Although in all honesty all of the 3D Sonic games have shown potential IMO. Interesting gameplay elements. Just held back by numerous bugs and glitches, as though I’m playing an alpha or possibly beta build of the game.

so many glitches with those damn gems its crazy but my favorite is the sky one…the one that when you throw it you teleport to wherever you threw it…made getting those pointless medals easy…the shield was to broken

Yes, I would say that if they had fixed all the bugs and glitches, increased movement/attack speed, fixed the horrible load times and load frequencies, and given back all the move canceling that the previous 3D Sonics had but '06 removed, it would’ve actually been a good game. Under those conditions, my only complaints would’ve been shitty story and Shadow using vehicles again.

I think that the spindash improvement in Sonic 2 kinda broke it for me because the levels felt like they were designed without the spindash in mind. Sonic 3 and Knuckles to me was the best game in the series because it felt like they spent time developing each characters strengths and weaknesses and designing the levels around it(although Tails was still brokesauce).

Sonic CD was like Gran Turismo to me. Overrated but not by too much.

3k all the way for me…Especially because of the different ways you can go through the levels with the different characters. Each time i play the game I at least play through it 3 times…Sonic, Tails, and Knux. Not to mention for me Insta Shield was a fucking awesome idea and I’m upset that they barely even used it again outside of Sonic advance. There were some enemies you couldn’t kill in 3k without taking damage if you didn’t do a well timed insta shield (I.E. Stupid ass metal ball enemie with the spikes circling around him in Launch Base zone). I also loved the idea of the different shields that they barely touch on any more in the later games. Hyper Sonic is the most broke thing ever…but it was still fun blasting through the stages for me with him and that games the only time that form of him was used along with Hyper Knux and Super Tails. Music wise 3k stands out the most for me as well with the OCremix cd Project Chaos solidfying my resolve on that with Sonic 2 being a close second.

Speaking of music…Specs you called the music in chronicles uninspiring…but I’m liking the small little remixes that I’ve heard so far. I’ve only heard 2 right now though and they both were remixes from 3d blast…You heard them mix from anything else?

I chose to just leave out the exceedingly oddball ones like Chronicles, Fighters, R, Riders, Rivals, Spinball, Shuffle, Drift, et cetera. And even with their shitty collision detection, irritating sound effects, and completely uninspired level design, I would seriously rather play the GG games than Shadow or '06.

I didn’t even get into the rush series or advance cause I was only thinking about home consoles. How come Heroes before 2? I’m just curious for your reasoning…not knocking it lol.

Black Knight looks fine as well for me…But we both know better. Someone needs to get their hands on it and play a demo.

The best Sonic games are the ones not directly developed by Sonic Team. That isn’t to say they’ve all been good (e.g., the PSP ones), but look at the evidence: Sonic 2/3/3K all done by STI (a group Sonic Team screwed over), the GBA/DS titles (save for Chronicles) all by Dimps, Chronicles itself by BioWare, etc.

The only exceptional Sonic game Sonic Team ever made EVER was Sonic 1. That’s. It.

Unleashed demo soon? Good. But know this: when the Sonic '06 demo came out, 8 million fanboys and a half made the claim that it was a pre-E3 demo, and assured others that the game was farther along in development. Granted, even sans the bugs, the total misuse of Havok, and more speed/better platforming, Sonic '06 would have still been a pile of trash, but still, the final product was just as unfinished as the “pre-E3” demo. So even if the Unleashed demo is great, be wary.

Since everyone’s posting their preferred Sonic game lists, here’s my top 3:

Sonic 2 (by FAR)
Sonic 3K
Sonic Advance 3 (very well designed)

And here’s my top 3 worst:

I fully realize that Heroes is glitchy, but I really enjoyed it. Of all the 3D Sonic games, it felt the most like the old 2D ones to me. Long and crazy levels, special stages for the Chaos Emeralds (which admittedly were so buggy they were almost unplayable :mad: ), a simple story that was basically just “Robotnik is being an asshole again; let’s go kick his ass!”. I thoroughly enjoyed the team-up gimmick, I felt it was very clever and worked well. Plus it gave them a way to use a large cast without forcing you to play the story 15 times. And I was overjoyed to see most of the Chaotix around again (now where the hell is Mighty?) as Vector was one of my favorite of the older characters.

The insta shield was pretty good, but the concept of the spin dash is just too powerful. That’s why many people think Sonic 2 is better, because all these ideas began here. The incredible level design, Super Sonic, Tails 2 player, etc. One of things I give Sonic 2 the edge over 3K is the two player vs mode. When I play 3/3K’s one I don’t feel the same excitement, there’s not enough mixtures and ideas like 2 had. 3K had some unique features like shields types, hyper emeralds, and all that good stuff though.

The Game Gear ports are very playable, though 2 had some extreme difficultly for a Sonic game. I’m surprised people remember them! Those were some of my first Sonic games, as a kid there was almost no way in hell I was beating 2’s port for GG.
