The Official Metal Gear Thread. Snake > All

I don’t know if it’s possible to switch ports on the emulator. I can hurt Mantis but at this rate it’ll take a lot longer than the standard time.

Yeah, back in the PS1 days my friend and I wondered the same thing (beating mantis without changing the controller port). It’s possible but takes a lot longer.

There is the statue trick mentioned above…I forgot about that. I believe if you do it that way it even changes Mantis line in that he doesn’t say “So…you used the other…”

I’m actually replaying MGS1 right now on Hard mode (It’s been a long while and I don’t have a save for extreme sadly) but I’m gonna do the statue trick this time.

couldn’t you simply hook up 2 controllers to your pc, set them for player 1 and player 2, and beat him that way (haven’t played MGS1 in a long time so I may not be remembering correctly).

I need to play it again. I don’t have the PS1 anymore. But I do have the Game cube one. The twins shakes has some cool cut scenes in it.

Yeah but the MGS2 engine completely broke the game.

Yea I was wondering if he said “so you used the other…” if you done the statue method. I always did the controller trick because I didn’t feel like struggling with the other way.

Yeah I agree. Its the only copy I own now.

I just realized when playing MGS on hard mode the Mine Detector is useless…Why do they even still let you pick it up you can’t use it. :bluu:

am i the only one that tried to do the controller port trick with screaming mantis

Heh I didn’t try that but I loved when he tried to read my Memory Card. Hah Mantis is old technology! You’re old software buddy!

The whole fight against screaming mantis was lulz. Campbell calling in telling you to switch controller ports, virtually switching your controller port to get another funny codec call, and Psycho Mantis coming in at the end and trying to read your non existent PS1 memory card.

@EvilSamurai: I wouldn’t say Twin Snakes was broke due to the engine. It changed how you played the game from the first one with the inclusion of the first person aiming, but the harder difficulty modes are still HELLA hard. And they totally made it so you couldn’t use your pistol against Sniper Wolf down the long hall

How did they keep you from using your pistol on Wolf in the com towers? It’s been years since I played TT.

I now remember why I never did the statue trick on Mantis…I could never figure out how.

Edit: Ok here’s how it works. You have to die to Mantis after calling Cambel enough times for him to recommend using the second slot. Continue. go back to the fight and call Cambel and he will tell you about the statues after questioning if you can use the second port or not. No wonder I could never get that shit to work.

Oh and Mantis still says “So…you used the other.”

Can’t you use the Thermo googles? Unless that’s taken away on hard mode as well…

I’ll try it. My friend has it a lot worse than I do. He can beat Mantis but the game freezes after he takes out half of Mantis’ life. Dunno what’s wrong his his copy of the PC MGS1.

twin snakes was wack. the graphics look great but they changed a lot of stuff that made the original mgs so great. the most major one imo was fighting ocelot. it was actually a challenge but in twin snakes…not so much.

the remixed music kinda sucked too but i think everyone knew that already. i bought it for gc when it came out but i couldn’t finish it cause things were a bit too different so i eventually ended up trading it for another game.

mgs2 engine truly did break that game.

Radiant’s tip worked. Mantis is dying today.

EDIT: Done. Bitch was a free win.

They set the draw distance short in every view except for using the PSG-1, so whenever you looked down the hallway you would see darkness at the end.

this podcast says that David Hayter and Christopher Randolph (Otacon) are returning to lend their voices for MGS Peacewalker (PSP)

Chris will more than likely be voicing Otacon’s dad.

Huh. That’s just weird. Big Boss and Otacon’s dad were buddies and then out of pure coincidence Solid Snake and Otacon meet up and become bros?

I already thought Peacewalker was kind of an unnecessary story from concept (Portable Ops pretty much said all that needed to be said on Big Boss and Outer Heaven), but throwing in all this amazing coincidence with Otacon’s dad is really stupid.

Oh well. If worst comes to worst, the gameplay will still be good.
