I think this is a good move by Square Enix. Consoles should get more MMORPGs.
So what exactly are you supposed to be doing between guildleves? I just can’t grasp that at all. I see people doing some profession work. Is that what people do once they do their 8 guildleves every 48 hours?
Get a party going and do other people’s leves or just grind away at some level appropriate mob.
The teleport seems like such a good idea, but with the way they restrict your anima regen it actually feels like you’re forced to stick to one area once you get low. At least people can share teleports though.
Since each city only gives ~3 battleleves per camp, I’ll usually grab a few that I can solo and a few where I’m required to party to complete (i.e. solo for lv10 leves party for lv20 leves). Or I’ll get only the lv20 leves for 1 city and the next day get only the lv20 leves for another city. Between leves I usually farm mobs that drop the stuff I need for crafts.
I also switch classes to something else when farming weak mobs so I can get the skillups. Once you get a decent physical level, you can easily kill things quickly with low-ranked classes since your base stats are still high. Really speeds up the grinding process.

FFXIV CE goes on sale tomorrow 9/22/10 in the US. The servers will be up later tonight.

Yeah I know SRK wanted Lindblum, but your character data and name are stored by server and I went Trabia on beta. So yeah…I’ll be over there. Also, lolwtf at Square charging an additional fee by the fucking character. Guess…that’s one way to deal with the bot issues? 
So many Lancers on the server. I guess it is to be expected with it being just flat out better than every other melee class at the moment.
SE did the same thing with FFXI, $1/month per additional character.
