Alpha just started today. Obviously I didn’t get in but some images/videos are starting to pop up around the net. It does look pretty nice for an MMORPG. I know all FFXI fans will go play that game too.
So who’s gonna play this game? Would be nice to have a team srk going when the game comes out.

I hope its a bit more casual friendly. FFXI was just too hardcore. It took years to get stuff. Well if you want to play the backstabber or shady guy u can get stuff in months. LOL and most people were like this.

I have a strict no-pay-per-month policy for my games. I pay for it once, and that’s it. I’ll invest my time into D3 and SC2. You almost never see a return on your investment, since selling and buying stuff in game online (a-la WoW with Gold) can and will get you banned, whereas this isn’t the case with D2. I was sucked into the WoW Vortex all of two years ago, but realized it was turning me into something horrid, so I burned that shit. No, seriously, I burned my WoW discs.
Plus, I always thought it was a silly idea. Final Fantasy didn’t need to throw in the dice with World of Warcraft. I still haven’t even gotten around to XII yet, though with all my games completed and the inability to get DA Origins: Awakening, I do believe that will change soon. I just hate how slow the game starts off.

I agree with this. However if its possible for me to level solo and actually progress without a group of others (at a slower rate) then I might give this a look. Until then its console games from this point out.
So I’m assuming the two different clans of each race are selectable?
Would add some nice variety to the character creation.
I’m really really REALLY looking forward to XIV. I loved XI but didn’t have the time to play it when it came out. However, I’m totally on the hype train for this, it’ll probably be the breaking point for me to finally buy a PS3. Or preferably a new PC. Does anyone know if there’s a USB mouse I can use on PS3 or would it have to be controller+usb keyboard?
Either way, hype hype hype hype HYPEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Having played FFXI and WoW I like the community of FFXI as they seem more helpful. But I agree FFXI is hardcore in comparison. It was very hard to make money in FFXI and crafting levels when up by decimal points and occasionally you would lose your ingredients.
Anyway I’m looking forward to this. And from the stream being able to allocate points instead of traditional leveling adds more character diversity. But there could be negatives to that as well cause how could you judge how strong someone is unless the equipment has a stat requirement. Which might put certain classes in specific builds anyway.

Okay, another quick update. It’s now been 6 hours since you posted the link and I just checked again. His character appears to be a meerkat wearing a hat. He is AFK indefinitely and by the annoyance of people in the stream chat he’s probably been AFK for quite some time now. His character is standing in a field and he has some really average trance music playing loudly.

edit: he just minimized the game and changed the song (winamp), but he hasn’t brought the game up again yet or done anything else since then for that matter

Im guessing you missed it, but a few posts up they said that he was banned from the FFXIV Alpha (probably because they heard he was trying to stream it) and so now he’s logged into FFXI

As for the game… I originally promised myself I wouldn’t play this game… buuuuuuuut im a pussy, so i will probably buy it/play it for a little while. I got a new badass laptop that should handle this game with ease, so I might as well check it out. I ALMOST went back to WoW, but thankfully my sanity held out.
EDIT: Not sure what I want to be yet… I normally like to play the really-high-damage dealers in MMORPGs… I was a Rogue in WoW back when they were tops, and in FFXI I usually ran around as a Ranger or Samurai (Again, back when they were OP.) Im wondering if I want to focus on being the ‘mage type’ in FFXIV, or perhaps a tank might also be enjoyable… I’ll have to do more research.
Anyone already know what they are gonna roll as?
If by “hardcore” you mean “stupid,” I agree. There’s nothing “hardcore” about anything FF11 did. It’s a bad, bad game with a delusional community believing it’s good, and it doesn’t deserve a red cent.
FF14 has a lot of ground to make up.

FF11 had some really original stuff and very good ideas but the way it applied them was stupid. They would force you to do all sort of dumb stuff to come to your goal. Game wasn’t as rewarding as it should have been. However FF14 might fix all these mistakes and make it a pretty good game. I also somewhat enjoyed the difficulty in the game since I like hard games. Easy games (like WoW) bore the shit out of me.
Playing as a hume or mithra lancer till a samurai type job is available. Depends on which of those two have cleaner battle animations. I used to love how straight foward the hume samurai looked in XI.
