well looks liek they changed the server names, and its gona be the offical names since there gona let ppl take there char names from beta to offical release only if its the same server. if any1 plays ill be on wutai
I got a Beta Key last night, but right after I entered it the Account Management crashed. Now my Key is used, but my Service Account is not activated. Awesome.
Me and InfiniDragon got in earlier this morning (around 2:00AM), we’re playing on Figaro. Game’s a lot of fun thus far, glad I tried it myself.
Y’all should try to play on the SAME server, so that all of the srk players can party together and shit.
I’ll try this when ps3 beta opens.
Yeah, Alpha and I got in, liking the game a lot so far (especially the gamepad option; PSO style, fuck keyboards).
My characters are based off my Aion characters (only with last names); my main is named Blake Farrence. Short teenage dark-haired kid with a sword (Glad). Other two characters are Remiel (Lancer) and Cosette (Conjurer) Cathetel. I gave them the same last name to make them siblings, so they look similar, platinum hair and albino pink eyes.
If you see me, say hey.
I haven’t had the time to hop onto the open beta yet, but are shields available to glads from the shop yet?
I got my beta key registered but I can’t get to the site that has the client available…
I started a character on Figaro too. He’s a Taru (that’s right…Taru) named Bartholomew Crouch. He’s just lvl 1 because my first character is on Belial server, but I figured the SRKers should gather.
Once you get the client, then you still have to d/l the updates. There’s about 5 gigs worth (it’ll be a 6-7 hour d/l) and then install said updates.
Yeah, mine’s saying it’s gonna take 26+ hours to finish updating. Oh well.
I’ll have it by tomorrow night anyway.
If you’re using the FFXIV patcher then foward these ports:
443 UDP
55296 to 55551 TCP & UDP
You can also torrent all the patches by going to:

Double Post
Will try that out when I get back home from work, thanks for the advice.
Damn this game runs like shit on my computer. Here i was thinking it wouldn’t be a problem.
Min specs are pretty crazy; i7, 460 gtx, etc.
I guess with cataclysm and sc2 out now I suppose I could build a new comp.
I am having a blast so far.
I’m a taru conjurer and started in the tree place (Gridaria?), and the sequences at the start are pretty great.
Plus, they play Distant Worlds in the background. Too good.
I expected Conjurer to be more of a healer as Thaumaturge was the other option, which was described as being destructive, but apparently I’m an AOE caster?
Will have to look more into it, need to try all the other classes. Alchemist really caught my eye.
The hell…this is the sequel???
No direction in quests, controls like a toddler drunk off tequila, and I had to go three like 3 instances before even reaching the game?
Not to mention all the invisible walls this game has. I played FFXI, and even the beta for that wasn’t so bad. Heck, I even enjoy FFXI for the short time I played it. Holy crap this game is giving me a very bad first impression.
No auto follow on the camera is driving me nuts.
EDIT: Now it crashed. Not going to knock points on that though since it is still early open beta.
EDIT 2: SE do not put the Start, and Quit buttons stacked up like that when you have mouse lag. Just restarted, and quit because I clicked on start and it jumped to quit. ARGH!!
Storyline quests give no direction (and they didn’t in FFXI either). All the leve quests show where to go on your map. Still, it does suck just getting thrown in without an idea of where to go. Mouse lag is stupid too…use a controller for better response time.
Wait, how the hell do you even get this game working? Every time I try to boot it up, it just crashes on me.
And yes, I’m using Windows 7.
Anyone help? I did everything this site told me to do.
http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/12719-open-beta-download-links-install-instructions/
Well I did my best in following the instructions (does such a bad job and telling you what exactly needs to be done). Yet every time I try to open up, it just crashes. WTF?
I had the same problem but I updated my drivers and the problems were fixed. Also seconding that people torrent the patch updates and paste them into the proper folders. Check here to do that. Also highly suggest using a PS3 gamepad or a USB one modeled after it since keyboard controls cannot be customized atm.
Currently, the beta is ridden with random crashes and lobby errors but that’s to be expected. The biggest problem for me is the menu lag and the targeting system. If you try to craft, harvest, or buy something from a merchant you will literally stand there for 5-10 seconds until a message pops up. Casting spells and trying to cure people on reaction is tough with this lag so I wouldn’t trust any healers yet. Other things like no map markers, no party member indicators, no auction house, and resetting all your skills every time you change jobs are also a pain.
Guildleve system is controversial. You can do 8 battle-related guidleves (quests) every 48 hours and you get a lot of job skillups and physical exp while doing them. The best way to do this is to NOT do those quests immediately. Find a group of people where each person activates 1-2 guildleves and take turns doing higher difficulty (3-5 star) versions. Everyone gets better bonuses without wasting all your quests right away. Solo versions of these quests take like 5 minutes to complete so it’s really a waste even if your playtime is low.
Crafting-based guildleves are on a separate timer and I think SE is expecting everyone to level a craft. Crafting can be used to increase your physical exp level and can actually outpace normal grinding under a guildleve.
Some servers are laggier than others. I started a THM taru on Figaro and a GLD hume on Rabanastre. Rabanastre runs much smoother. THM is terrible at low level, but once you get some enfeebling spells it’s awesome. Poison, gravity, and slow are really potent and punishing barbs reflects 100% of damage taken for 1 minute. It’s ridiculous. GLD tanking is pretty involving too. You constantly have to maintain a cycle of manually raising your shield, attacking, and provoking the enemy. There’s also a phalanx move where you have a short window to do a strong counterattack after hit-confirming a shield block.
Graphics are good. Music has a lot of variety. Character models and clothing are realistic and pretty but not anime/WoW pretty. Stat allocation and being able to change jobs on the fly is cool. No exp penalty on death. Everyone can teleport freely (mostly). Lot of potential here I hope SE doesn’t screw up and keep all the problems around once official launch comes around.
Oh, and I can tell that this game isn’t going to be a cakewalk. Once you get out of the starter camp next to your city the quests and mobs start ramping up in difficulty really fast. The economy is also going to be crazy since it seems a lot of people are keeping recipes and good locations for farming materials a secret. I’ve seen quite a few people devote all their time to figuring out crafting and harvesting/mining mechanics. It’s intimidating.
Yeah, there are some things about this game I hope they fix (guildleve system, no weapons shops/full player based economy, more instruction for new folks, auction house) but on the whole I’m liking it a lot.
The game itself looks phenomenal and the music in FF is generally always good.
The game itself is eh, hit or miss I guess. It feels like a very early stage of the game… Friend lists aren’t really working well, you have to type /p everytime to party chat, just little nuances that make the game feel very unpolished.
Couple that up with there being barely any mobs in the world and limited amounts of quests per day, it feels like a grind… In FFXI at least there was a social type of interaction you had to form to play the game. This one so far just seems like a mindless grind.
I like the game and will get it, but if the retail is anything like the beta, I can’t see it being too successful outside of the FFXI fanboys.
