Thank God. This is a big big big improvement.
ffxiii’s soundtrack was absolute trash.
A benchmark was released for the game:

And you might be able to play the game in 3D:

Apparently the Open Beta starts this Wednesday (September 1). The amount of people allowed on the server will be very limited at first (so expect to sit in queue for a long time), but as each day passes they will allow more people to be logged on.
So I was like, damn I’m going to play this instead of WoW… But can anyone tell me WHY THE FUCK is there going to be an 8 hour a week limit from what I’m hearing?!
Players earn XP at 100% for the first 8 hours.
For 7 hours over this limit the XP received decreases to 0%.
The time limit for the playtime counter to reset is 1 week.
The XP gain limit is not tied to any class/job but is per character.
Drops and loot are not affected by the XP ?fatigue.?
A lot of sites are reporting different things in regards to the fatigue system. From what I hear, everything Marn says is true except the limit is applied to each job and not the character as a whole. Either way ill give it a shot on release.
My biggest gripe with 11 was its ridiculously slow battle system. It didnt have to be the clusterfuck that WoW can often become, but the pace could have been picked up a great deal without becoming confusing. That above video has me kinda hype though. It was also beat how you were pracitcally forced to party if you weren’t BST but took 2 hours or more to find a party if you weren’t WHM or RDM. A lot of things appear to be remedied in 14 though so I look forward to it. I just hope, like most in here, the game doesn’t turnout to be FFXI HD plus some shit.
Sites are reporting different times for fatigue. One site I read agreed with you (except that fatigue is tied only to a class/job and not a character), while another said that fatigue was on a daily basis and not weekly.
Obviously the idea for the system is so people will not waste their entire week playing an mmo. The “fatigue” system is becoming more and more popular amongst developers, and it is already present in many games without US server.
The thing that makes this funny is…your paying 15 dollars a month and…they control what you can do wow. If someone wants to grind for 20 hours a day 7 days a week, shit let em, they’re getting their money’s worth thats for sure lol.
Yeah…their getting their money’s worth, but what about the rest of their life? Games are great and I think you should play them as much as you want as long as the other aspects of your life don’t suffer. I realize that makes me sound like a douche, but it’s the truth.
Square-Enix also said that they were wanting people to play a little with all the classes instead of a ton with one class.
Pre-ordered copies for myself and 4 friends, so we should have a decent starting group to play with.
It’s looking better all the time to me, but then again I’m one of those that really enjoyed FFXI.
Very hyped that Nobuo Uematsu is doing the soundtrack. Attending Distant Worlds in Seattle last year was one of the best vacations my girlfriend and I have ever experienced.
I pre-ordered it, but after failing the benchmark terribly I canceled my pre-order. My computer meets the minimum requirements (though I only have 512 mb vram), but I apparently can’t play it.
I just downloaded and ran the benchmark after reading your post, got a score of 3850. I’m not sure how that ranks relatively, but I know for sure my machine will run it.
(For those interested, it’s an i7 920 @ 3.2GHz, 12gb DDR3 tri-chan, GTX260 216, RAID0 10k RPM drives etc. It’s a beast that was built at the start of last year and tears through everything I’ve throw at it so far.)
Though I have to say, I’m actually kinda looking forward to the PS3 version coming out, too. Would like to play it downstairs on my big screen.
According to the FFXIV website, your score corresponds to: “Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.”
heard the game’s a waste of time like 13…
for anyoen thats gona play the game. ima in server sephiroth. ima play this game just pretty seriously, so if any1 is gona play serious to just hit me up. remember server name is sephiroth

I didn’t think it was up yet? Thought it was 1900 Pacific.
It got delayed until 7:00 PM PDT (10:00 PM EST) today. It was supposed to start last night (Sept. 1 for JPN). There should be a new client for d/l, and the huge patch that follows, at 1900 PDT.
so umm guys can someone tell em wants wrong with my se account? cant login into the beta website. this is what it says
You could not log in because the service account in question is not registered.
If you would like to log in to the service, please log in to the Square Enix Account Management System and register the service account.

You have to get an Open Beta key (even if you were in a previous alpha/beta phase). To do that you have to go to FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Application Site and click the link at the bottom of the page.
EDIT: https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/login?cont=ffxiv_beta_ap&ret=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.square-enix.com%2Fenqt%2Fe%2FFF14OBTENTRYJP%2Fhtml&retl=ffxiv&retu=http%3A%2F%2Fentry.ffxiv.com%2F&lng=en&rgn=na <------if you use this link, then you can still get a Open Beta key.
