me and some friends are going to comic con-san diego 2011, we’re wondering if anyone srkers are interested in going. i wanna make a seperate thread for this since people rarely visit this thread

Comiccon NYC anyone going?

Anyone know if u need a permit to bring consoles?

anyone hype?

Like a gaming console, like a PS3/360/Wii? If you want to. They might not going to let you hook it up or anything though but you can bring whatever you want, if your intent is to trade consoles with somebody or anything like that. Heck they sell consoles, Japanese games and modded consoles at the show itself so if anyone gives you crap just say you bought it there. NEVER put any bag down or leave anything unattended because people steal. There is a coat check and you can check in packages or anything else if you don’t want to carry around stuff 24/7.

I posted this in the trade outlet but someone mentioned posting it here.

http://shoryuken.com/f226/anyone-going-comic-con-new-york-weekend-big-favor-ask-253387/

I’m not trying to spam up srk. Just really want this fucking comic.

I’ll pick it up for you no worries!

Thanks. I posted them around the same time with my fingers crossed. lol

I appreciate it man.

Hey no problem, easy request. I’ll bring a bag and board so it doesn’t get messed up. They usually give you one but just in case.

Oh snap I asked Funimation on Facebook if they would have the Sengoku Basara Anime on Blu-Ray ready at the con since it officially comes out next week and they said yes! Getting that for certain! Also the Blu-Ray for Casshern Sins if I have enough money left over. Love buying anime at cons straight from the publishers. No sales tax. :lovin:

AND HERE WE GO!

DAY ONE, PART 1 - MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3

Since this is being posted on a fighting game forum I will go backwards and start with the MVC3 panel first, which was the very last thing I got to attend. Yes all of the new info is already on the home page and probably 1,000 other webstites by now but if by some MIRACLE you are reading this first well here goes.

Only two new characters were revealed, Bionic Commando AKA Nathan (RAD) Spencer and Arthur from Ghouls 'N Ghosts! What’s interesting about Spencer is that he looks like the version of the character from the 3D game and not the one from the Rearmed game. Regarding Arthur he does bust out a move where a blue energy dragon attacks which, unless I’m mistaken originates from the PSP game Ultimate G&G.

The story for the game was revealed. Doctor Doom from the Marvel world teams up with Wesker from the Capcom world to take over both worlds. But in their attemp they awaken a big threat, something that will decide the “Fate of Two Worlds.” DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN… :looney:

They revealed four costumes for Spider-Man. First was his regular suit and the other was his symbiote suit with the black and white. The third option was that Iron Man yellow / red armor suit, the one he wore during Civil War and MVP started using. A big surprise was that his fourth suit is the new outfit he is getting in Slott’s upcoming ASM arc, Big Time that starts in November! Granted, I think these are all swaps but maybe just maybe we will be able to hear clanging noises when we strike Spidey’s yellow and red suit? Seems reasonable but no confirmation on that.

I’m not sure if this is in current builds but I was able to spot Wolverine in his current X-Force outfit, complete with red eyes and everything! :clapdos: There was also a silver Iron Man who looked a lot like War Machine.

A funny moment at the panel was when someone asked for the Mega Man from the Battle Network series to be included in the game. EVERYONE BOO’D INCLUDING ME! :annoy: Seth said it doesn’t seem like it’s a popular choice. All Niitsuma said was that the Mega Man series will get some representation. Ack well hoping for classic since I’m old enough to have played Mega Man 1 when it was new… but the RUMORED LISTS all say Zero. Even though all rumored lists have not proven to be entirely true, but moving along…

I did get to play MVC3 at the show but not very much thanks to the insane crowd. I had two matches and at the time it wasn’t really arcade rules. If you won or lost you had to step off to let two other people play, something we all did so everyone could try it out. It was the TGS build so I didn’t get to play Spidey. I used two teams, one was Dante, Ryu and Chun-Li and the other was of Dante (DMC Fanboy HA HA), Trish and Wolverine. I lost both matches due to me not able to figure out how to tag partners until the very end, but I took some of the other guy’s characters out at least… Hey what do you want I’m the Comic Book Forum mod YEASH… :wonder: Ah well I’ll try again on Sunday when the crowd probably won’t be as bad. I turned my back to play other Capcom games for a quick second and the crowd waiting to play MVC3 was BONKERS… Ditto for the tournament you had to participate in to get the free Alvin Lee poster (which is really nice BTW). So yeah if they have any posters left on Sunday I’d definitely like to try. There’s just so many things I wanted to do at the con and I knew waiting around to play more MVC3 would eat up too much time.

Anywho the game is SOOOO much fun! Easy to pull off moves and was able to work with both Normal and Simple mode, but I think I’ll stick to Normal since I’m much more used to that. The tagging mechanic seems like it will take getting used to much like TVC. Still gotta say it’s a very addictive game and Spring 2011 is way too far away!

During the Marvel video game panel they will reveal the two Marvel characters. But they have already been leaked on the net anyway, check the internets. Ah well I’ll head to the panel anyway to confirm / deny.

That’s enough for one post. I’ll get everything else I did in the following post.

DAY ONE, PART 2 - EVERYTHING ELSE

Like always I was on an incredibly long line waiting to get into the show. A really cool moment was STAN THE MAN LEE was on one level above us and waved! The crowd naturally went nuts and started chanting his name! :lovin:

They were giving out free grab bags on line of random stuff but I wasn’t going crazy trying to grab one. It’s cool because someone left theirs on the floor and I was able to snatch it up when the crowd started moving. SCORE! Of course once I looked in the bag I realized why the left it on the floor. There’s some comics for wee little kids like those for Marvel Super Hero Squad and some Marvel Super Hero Squad toys! Oh well can’t complain. I GOT IT FOR FREE! :clapdos:

Went to the Capcom booth once I got into the show. Like I said before I played Marvel vs. Capcom 3 but I also got to try out Mega Man Universe. What was cool about the version they had was that you could pick different versions of Mega Man. I went with the classic version, the one that looks like the Mega Man the way Japan draws him, you know the one used in MVC1 and 2. They had the box art version, that other version who looks funny but they also had some customized versions! One had Mega Man’s head on, I think it was Metal Man’s body? The other one was Mega Man combined with some other robot, I think one of the Sniper Joes (the guys with the helmets and shield who jump and shoot at you). Those were versions Capcom made. Not only will you get to customize stages in the game but you can create your own characters! Since Ryu from Street Fighter is in the game and Arthur from GnG is in the game, you could say take Ryu’s arm, Arthur’s body and Mega Man’s head to make a new character! :cybot:

The stage I was on was a customized stage, and you could spot the “New York Comic Con” banner in the background! If you are familiar with Mega Man Powered Up it was the same deal since companies made their own stages early on and were able to include their own logos. It does seem like a spiritual successor to Powered Up through and through. Capcom said the game itself is Mega Man 2 that you can play through with a Mega Man, Ryu or Arthur. But you can customize some stages if you don’t like them and of course share your stages online with everybody!

Someone asked the Capcom rep if Arthur in the game will lose his armor and run around in his underwear (he does this in MVC3 BTW). They didn’t confirm or deny.

I played the demo for Ghost Trick on the Nintendo DS. The stylus wasn’t available but you could use your finger in the same way. The funny thing about the demo was at one point the girl you are supposed to save says something like “Don’t get too excited. This is just a demo and you won’t be able to do this when you start the real game.” And the main character goes “Wait this is just a demo?” Really quirky and strange game. Me like!

I jumped in the middle of someone’s Okamiden game and didn’t know what was going on. Really cute though! Played Bionic Commando Rearmed for a good while. The jumping mechanic changes nothing, it still seems as challenging as ever. Both Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes and Dead Rising 2 were really crowded so didn’t get to play them. Ah well it’s all good since I’m picking up SB later this week when it drops and I still haven’t gotten around to beating Dead Rising 1… I’ll try to play them during the weekend if I can!

The free stuff I got from Capcom’s booth was a mini Mega Man Universe Arthur spear, a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 button and an Okamiden mask. The producer of Okamiden also signed a poster for me! I met Capcom’s Miguel Corti at the show and thanked him for always being around on the live streams and translating things from Niitsuma, Keiji Inafune, etc. From Capcom-unity I spotted either JGONZO or SNOW (I swear I can never tell those two apart, I really got confused during the SDCC Live Streams… ACK…) but he was busy talking to someone so didn’t bug him that very second. I apologize for my really crappy memory when it comes to remembering real people… X_x

Went over to ‘Boom!’ and I was able to pick up that Armory Wars #5 issue Stuart asked me to get. I’m glad I brung an extra bag and board to keep it safe since all they gave me was… A GIANT SHOPPING BAG… Ah well things worked out since I was able to use that big bag like a second book bag throughout. Still I put the comic in the board, I have it home now and it’s perfectly safe without any folds or anything like that. Not hating on ‘Boom!’ since they do put out that amazing and hella great Darkwing Duck comic so it’s all good! In short THERE WAS TROUBLE BUT I RECALLED DW! Sorry it’s REEEEALLY LATE… :clown:

Went to Funimation and picked up season one of the Sengoku Basara anime on Blu-Ray, super early since it doesn’t come out until later this week! GETCHA GUNS ON! :nunchuck:

Spent some time looking through the backbins for some obscure comics I’m missing or just looking for (like Udon’s Taskmaster run for example) but didn’t have too much luck finding the things I wanted. I was able to nab the first TPB for JMS’ Thor run for 20% off to help fill some of the wholes in my JMS Thor collection! Not much but I guess it’s something!

One thing about these cons is that they sell really overpriced food and beverages. I’m usually able to avoid food, sometimes just by chewing gum all day. They always have me on the beverages though since I live off of caffiene, for reals. So I’m always there buying 4 dollar sodas and 3 dollar cups of coffee. :bluu: Well not this year! Five Hour Energy was in the hizouse giving out FREE BOTTLES! :clapdos: This long ass post is brought to you by Five Hour Energy otherwise I’d do my usual annual routine of falling asleep on the typewriter while posting all of this stuff… No worries, I will take it in moderation.

And off to the panels. The first one I attended was the X-Men panel. Gotta point out that there’s a REALLY FUNNY movie Marvel showed before the panel with, you know that African American guy in those Old Spice commercials who says “Look at me, now look at your man. Now look at me, look at your man. Back to me,” and so on? They got him to do an Avengers commercial where he’s playing Luke Cage! It’s HYSTERICAL! His big head is on top of what looks like a super deformed Luke Cage toy. He goes, “Look at me, now look at Modok (Modok toy appears). Look at me, now look at Sugar Man (Sugar Man toy appears).” And the horse he rides in the end turns out to be a toy of Beta Ray Bill, who says “I’M NOT A HORSE!”

The big reveal for X-Men was the next upcoming event called “Age of X.” They showed silohuettes of a bunch of characters in the teaser image but some you could make out like Wolverine, Emma, Cyke, etc. That starts up in January.

For X-23’s book they said that she will leave the X-Men and is going to pal around with Gambit for a while. Speaking of mentor / sidekick roles, if that’s what that is… There’s going to be a new series called Wolverine and Jubilee. Jubilee comes out of being a vampire or something like that but the change has had an effect on her that will alter the dynamic between Wolverine and Jubilee.

For adjectiveless X-Men, once they stop messing with vampires some of them are heading back to New York and will team up with Spider-Man for a few issues.

My favorite comic book writer, Peter David AKA PAD was on hand to talk about X-Factor. He said that someone is going to leave the X-Factor team, but it doesn’t mean they will leave the book. He also said there is a flashback coming where Jamie AKA Multiple Man talks to NY Mayor J. Jonah Jameson about allowing his team to operate in NY. JJJ approves the team but he says something like, “This may never happen, but their may come a day when I ask you for a favor.” And we go to present time when he asks X-Factor for that favor. THE PLOT THICKENS! :wonder:

A fan asked about Hope. Mainly he knew that they were not going to reveal if Hope was Jean Grey at the panel, or connected / related to her and maybe even the Phoenix Force. But he wondered why the X-Men are not wondering the same thing in the books. The answer he got was that the X-Men are thinking the same things the fans are thinking regarding Hope. They may not be saying it outloud because ‘Dark Phoenix’ is a very touchy subject with the X-Men. And of course to not spoil things for upcoming stores. Obviously we didn’t get any real confirmation on who Hope is exactly at the panel.

Next I attended a Disney Publishing panel, killing time until the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 panel started. They revealed graphic novels that they are putting out, from either Marvel or other publishers. One will take place in between the movies Tron 1 and 2. Another will take place in between Pirates of the Carribean 3 and 4 that is coming out next year (some of that graphic novel will involve prequel stories as too). The big surprise was that they are going to put out comics for the upcoming Epic Mickey video game! :clapdos: The pages they showed looked gorgeous! One comic will take place before the video game. And hey if any of you are interested in Epic Mickey but don’t have a Wii well they will put out a comic book adaptation of the entire game! Both the prequel comic and the adaptation will be available digitally first through iPhone apps, X-Box Live, PSN, etc. and later they will be printed as comics for retail.

Another pretty cool surprise is due to the amazing work Fantagraphics has done reprinting the old Peanuts strips, Disney has teamed up with them to put out some Carl Barks books (Donald Duck comics, created Uncle Scrooge and the Duck Tales cartoon was based on his comic) and some material from Floyd Gotfredson (best known for Mickey Mouse comic strips. He created the Phantom Blot who is the main villain behind Epic Mickey BTW). As soon as they started the Q&A session I asked about the Carl Barks books. I said that a lot of his older material costs way too much money and I was wondering if they were going to be priced fairly. The Disney rep asked me how much is too much and I said a hundred dollars. The entire crowd laughed - - but seriously, I am not joking about that. Like I told the crowd, hell his Omnibus set is a hundred dollars a pop for 10 volumes! Some of the Gladstone books go for $200 and up! I love Carl Barks and always look for reprints and trades when they are affordable, but damn trying to read all of his work will BREAK YOU. :wasted: The Disney rep said that they are going to try to make the prices reasonable, with a range of fifty dollars or lower. THAT’S WHAT I’M TYPIN’ 'BOUT! Then he said he actually hasn’t confirmed the pricing with the people who do that stuff so if the book does come out costing a hundred dollars he apologizes. :crybaby: Ohs well, guess we’ll see… :looney:

Oh hey I tried to be slick and hang out in the room the MVC3 panel was going to go down in by attending the panel right before it. This trick has worked a bunch of times since once you are in a room for any specific panel you can stay there as long as you want and they usually don’t kick you out. It was a panel about Toys that I really didn’t read up on so I was surprised when I saw Todd McFarlane there! Not that it mattered. I was told that if I was waiting for the MVC3 panel I had to get out of the room and get on the line outside to get in. So I didn’t stick around to hear anything Todd said. FOILED AGAIN!

That just about wraps up Day One. Off to bed. If I don’t recap tomorrow due to being really tired I’ll wrap up everything on Sunday. I got to see a few SRK peeps (well, some of them who I met before but don’t really post here anymore LOL) but not everybody. There’s so much going on this year and it’s really difficult to touch base with everybody. I hope I’ll have better luck in the next few days and if I miss anyone really sorry about that. Well hey I’m fairly sure everyone is having as much fun as I am or more.

I dunno man, I know about what they’ve done in their respective worlds, but I don’t think those 2 are the only major villains ;3

I personally liked the Ironman Spidey outfit, so I’m glad to see it in the game. Didn’t know Spidey’s getting a new outfit, but this is prob. the first game where a comic book characters gets an outfit like that. Good job Capcom

The Silver Ironman I know about, but the X-Forceverine is sweet:rock:

Aww, I’m not much of a fan of the .EXE or Star Force series but wouldn’t mind seeing some rep from them =)

So what? I play the NES Rockman games from time, don’t be :bashful: be

So why bring it up? BTW Zero is an X series character, so he wouldn’t count as a Megaman character ;3 I’m hoping for Sigma tho, we need more villains and its time for Sigma to shine! …his bald head. Plus since Sigma had different armor throughout the X series he can have those as color palletes :lovin:

When IS that panel BTW?

Hope you don’t mind me making 2 posts to reply with ^_^; Oh yeah if possible ask if they will show a new CGI vid that will show MORE characters =3

Awesome!

OOH! GIMME THE COMICS AND THE TOYS, GIMME, GIMME, GIMME!

Sigh, Inafune really needs to get over Rockman 2 already =_=

Woah they must’ve been worried someone would steal the stylus…or maybe someone already did!

Sigh wish SB3 had JP voices, but the Eng voices are OK (though some of their lines sound a lot better in Japanese, in English they seemed…more corny ^_^; Still props to the voice actors for their performance.

You fail Engrish forever-

lol, know where to watch that trailer online?

You mean Jubilee and Wolverine’s dynamic wasn’t changed from the 90s? O_o

I bet he wants PICTURES OF SPIDERMAN!

HYPE*1000! Wish they’d bring that game over to PS3 now that it has it’s own Wiimote.

For classics like these, I’ll pay just about anything, including your pancreas, Sano <3

LOL Engrish Fission Mailed!

They confirmed X won’t be in MVC3 but there will be a character that will make X fans happy. Zero was always meant to be the main character of the X series too. They only created X for familiarity reasons and not to freak people out. Zero even got the title Rockman or MM in his own franchise. Remember in Japan they are both simply called X and Zero, in the games anyway. I think Zero is in but not sure which version.

Also Niitsuma said before that for TVC he didn’t use MM Classic before because Capcom now depicts him as a guy who just jumps and shoots (as opposed to the MVC variant that was MM2 through 7 plus Soccer and Power Fighters 1/2). That’s why he went with Volnutt. Nothing has changed since then, even in Universe he just jumps and shoots. Well yes he can gain powers from other robots but no charge, slide, merging with Rush, etc.

I bring up the rumored list because so far the Eventhubs one has been right about every single Capcom character, right down to Bionic Commando and Arthur. It has been wrong about some of the Marvel characters though.

Obviously this is all speculation and there’s always misdirection to consider so who knows, and hey things change. I would love for Classic to be in the game but I just don’t see it in the cards. That might leave Volnutt or another MM, dunno. I’m fine with Tron for now and I guess we’ll see about the rest. At least I still have MM Universe to play. Pity the God Hand fans.

The Marvel video game panel is at 10:45 AM but yeah the 2 Marvel characters have already been leaked. Mike Carey is writing the next Activision X-Men game so really hyped to learn more about that.

Remind me to look for the Old Spice / Luke Cage clip later if I forget. It should be online somewhere. At the end of the clip they tossed up a web address but I didn’t jot it down or anything. I’m betting they’ll repeat it at the con.

3 hours to go then :yay:
…and I saw the reveal/announcement trailer for the game. All that talk about destiny was stupid IMO.

WHY I NO GO BECUZ I R IN CANADUUUUURRRR…

Instead I get fucking FanExpo which Capcom is like “LOLZ WE R TU GUD FOR TEH CANADIUUNNSS”.

Super exhausted so going to talk in more detail tomorrow. Quickly gotta say that my favorite surprise announcement today was that Konami’s arcade X-Men game, you know the one based on the ‘Pride of the X-Men’ pilot is coming to PSN and Xbox Live, untouched and as is! It will support online and allow up to six players online! Cyke, Storm, Wolvie, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Dazzler man HELL YEAH! :clapdos:

I put so many quarters into this machine back in the day. “NOTHIN’ MOVES THE BLOB!” :lovin:

DAY TWO

Went to the Marvel video game panel. For MVC3 they showed off the new Marvel characters, Magneto and M.O.D.O.K.! Hard to place the voices but I think for Magneto they used the same voice he had on Wolverine and the X-Men. M.O.D.O.K. sounds like he has the same voice from Marvel Super Hero Squad. I know M.O.D.O.K. was on Iron Man Armored Adventures before but I don’t recall what he sounds like in that cartoon. Magneto seems fairly close his older self from the older games. M.O.D.O.K. looks REALLY FUNNY in action. Nice!

Not much else revealed but just like SDCC, Frank Tieri repeated that for the endings he is able to use every single Marvel and Capcom character so he put in a lot of Marvel characters not in the game. He dropped Man Thing’s name just like he did last time but he also mentioned Mojo and Blade. Well LOL I don’t think anyone was expecting Mojo but that’s too bad about Blade, if this does in fact mean he’s not in the real game. Mainly because Devil May Cry 1 was partially based on the first Blade movie (well that and the anime Cobra, among other things) so it would be great to have the two square off against each other. Don’t get too upset though, I have some good news about Blade if you keep reading.

Niitsuma was asked which character did he enjoy working on the most and he said Deadpool. Because coming up with all of his moves and breaking the wall stuff like attacking you with his life bar was a lot of fun! He also said they spent more time on Deadpool than any other character.

There was lots of talk about two Marvel Super Hero Squad games. The first one will be a sequel to the Wii game but will also be playable on the PS3 and 360. The story is about Thanos going after the Infinity Gauntlet and trying to use the Infinity Sword featured in the first season of the cartoon. There’s some surprises for the voice actors. Jane Lynch (Party Down, Glee) will voice Nebula! :lovin: If you pre-order the game you can get Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, the Joker in Batman The Animated Series) as Red Skull! George Takei (Sulu on Star Trek) will reprise the role he had on the cartoon as the voice of Galactus! :woot:

The second Marel Super Hero Squad will be an online game and they are trying to get as many characters in as possible. I saw images for the Scarlet Spider, Bullseye, Deadpool and the new Spider-Girl. They are listening to fans for character requests so if they is someone you want in the game hit them up on the MSHS forums.

For Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions they will have all of the Cosmic Spider-Man costumes available for DLC. So if you didn’t get them from the Gamestop pre-order you will be able to pick them up soon.

We didn’t see much about the new Thor game. The same trailer from before (if you have a PS3 you can view it off the Network for free).

We learned a lot about the Captain American game. It started out as being based on the movie but it seems more like a hybrid of the comics and the movie. It’s taking place during World War II and featuring a younger Captain America, but his costume looks the same as we are used to seeing. It’s being written by Marvel’s Christos Gage. The game will feature Red Skull, Baron Zemo and some old school Marvel characters like the Invaders and the Howling Commandos but we didn’t get specific names for which ones. There will be a Madame Hydra, but it will be a different Madame Hydra since the game is taking place during WW2 so not Viper. The footage of the game was looking pretty good. Christos couldn’t reveal who the final boss of the game was. Someone in the crowd asked “Hitler?” Christos said no. He said the final boss was someone that was not entirely good or entirely evil. So then someone asked “Hitler?” Oooh my apologies, couldn’t help but laugh though.

After that followed Activision’s new X-Men game written by Mike Carey! :clapdos: There was a brief trailer with some silohuettes shown. Of course Wolverine and Cyclops were there. I think I could make out Psylocke but I definitely saw my homie Nightcrawler! The Golden Gate Bridge was featured in the trailer so it will take place fairly close to what’s going on in the comics right now with the X-Men living in San Francisco and everything like Carey stated. The game will be about you, as yourself being born in the X-Men world as a Mutant. Nothing was revealed on how this is going to work, like if you will be able to customize the character and pick out specific powers for them. Anyway color me interested for now!

The surprise reveal at the end of the panel was for Konami’s arcade X-Men game based on Pryde of the X-Men available for DL on Xbox Live and PSN! :woot: It will be online and allow up to six players! The trailer looked exactly the same as the older game, just maybe a little brighter (but this is hard to judge from a trailer). The music that played during the trailer was a remix of one of the songs from the game, but the Marvel rep confirmed that music for the game will be the same bad music you remember. Man I don’t know what he’s talking about. “EH EH EH EH X-MEN! EH EH EH EH EH X!” Man they don’t write lyrics like that anymore. The Marvel rep said this came about because demand for this game to return was incredibly high. We couldn’t get a release date other than soon. Calling dibs on Nightcrawler when I get my six player online game on! :lovin:

I watched the first two episodes of the new Avengers cartoon! It will be on the air on Disney XD on October 20th. It was pretty cool. Seemed like a mix of 616, Ultimate-verse, stuff from the movies and things from Bendis’ Avengers comic. For example the story spins out of a super villain jail break just like Bendis started his New Avengers run. There were LOTS of characters and Graviton does MAJOR DAMAGE… :wow: On the downside I think they were cramming way too much and too many characters in the first two episodes. Still I thought the same thing about Justice League Unlimited and that turned out to be one of the greatest Super Hero cartoons EVER. Ah well so long as it’s better than that '90s Avengers cartoon it’s all good.

Attended a panel that had Stan Lee with rapper / RB artist Ne-Yo! Essentially Ne-Yo had an idea for a super hero movie and when he approached his record company about making it into a film he was rejected because it would cost over forty million dollars… :wow: So they came up with a solution. His next album will be a concept album with songs that illustrate the story of the movie. There will also be videos that tell the story of the movie. We saw four of them and it’s pretty much like a Michael Jackson video meets a comic book. Trippy! :looney:

So here’s where Stan Lee fits into the picture. There will also be a comic book that tells the story of the album and videos too. We all got a FREE copy of one of the comics (which I haven’t gotten around to read just yet). Gotta say Stan Lee was REALLY FUNNY during the panel. Ne-Yo talked about how he liked toying around with the idea of a fictional super hero and Stan said “Hang on for a second. You mean to tell me that you think these stories about comic book characters aren’t real?” When Ne-Yo was asked if he would consider making a rap album with Stan Lee he said he would love to have an album called ‘Ne-Yo and Stan Lee.’ Stan Lee said “Wait a minute, you mean to tell me your name goes first?” Then much later in the panel Stan said something like, "You know what I’ve reconsidered. On our Album I’m going to let you put your name first. It’s going to read ‘ne-yo’ in really small type and in giant bubble letters it will read “STAN LEE!”   He left the panel early and said “Excuse me I have to leave. I have some IMPORTANT panels to go to.”     Of course he said he was kidding around and has tremendous respect for Ne-Yo and really enjoyed working with him. Leaving us with a big “EXCELSIOR!” STAN’S THE MAN! :clapdos:

Saw Crispin Freeman on a panel for the anime ‘Durarara!!’ Crispin has a ton of voice rolls in animation and video games so I would really take a long time listing all of his roles. Some of the bigger ones are Togusa in Ghost in the Shell, Itachi in Naruto and the one that resonates with me the most being the Spidey fan that I am is Electro on The Spectacular Spider-Man! His sister is Cassidy Freeman who plays Tess Mercer on Smallville BTW.

We didn’t watch a full episode of ‘Durarara!!’ but just English dubbed clips and a blooper reel. LOTS of cursing in the blooper reel. The character Crispin Freeman plays is called Shizuo who picks up huge vending machines or rips street signs out of the ground and throws them. :looney: Crispin was asked if he has tried this in real life… :wonder: He said no since he lives in LA and there are no vending machines anywhere because everyone drives. They have drive-thrus there and he tried picking one of those up but they are too heavy. Even though he was not in the anime Gurren Lagann a fan asked him to yell out the famous quote from that series. Without ever having seen the show he was able to yell out “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?” and it sounded really close to the English version, but CREEPIER! Man he got skills! :clapdos:

The next panel I went to was for Marvel Anime! Blair Butler from G4 TV hosted the event. The reason why she was hosting was because all of the Marvel anime shows are going to air on G4 TV starting next Summer! G4 has been wanting to get back to showing anime on their channel for a while so this was a great fit for them.

We got to see the first episode of the Iron Man in Japanese subtitled man and it’s REEEEEEEEALLY GOOD! Studio Mad House is bringing their A game. Tony Stark is in Japan in this show and the characters and Iron Man machines look really realistic! ME LIKE! :cybot:

We also saw a never before seen extended trailer for the Wolverine anime! :nunchuck: For those who saw the older trailer that had Wolverine with that stupid white streak in his hair well that’s gone! I could make out Yukio, Mariko, Ogun and a younger Wolverine. Looks like the original Wolverine Limited series, only in anime style. They confirmed that there’s going to be lots of blood and they are not shying away from that aspect of anime. G4 is only going to air the episodes late at night as all like Cartoon Network does with Adult Swim. HOORAY VIOLENCE!

:chainsaw:

Speaking about the anime shows in general all of them will run for 16 episodes and there are four different shows that will be made. The first two as you already know are Iron Man and Wolverine and they announced the next two. Those will be X-Men and BLADE! :woot: See told you I had some good Blade news! The four shows will also be in continuity with each other, so don’t be surprised if you see anime Iron Man show up in the Blade anime or things like that.

The last panel I attended on Saturday was for Epic Mickey. We saw the seven minute opening movie for the game which was cool because the studio treated it as if they were doing an old school Mickey Mouse cartoon. They went into details about the comic adaptation, and on hand at the panel the writer for the comic was once again my FAVORITE comic book writer Peter David! :clapdos:

Peter David AKA PAD said the comic will be 64 pages long. It obviously won’t cover everything in the game because the game will take you about 26 hours to finish. Even so he went through every detail with the creative staff in order to get all of the important beats of the game in the comic.

Warren Spector went into a lot of details about how the game came about. Oswald the Rabbit was Walt Disney’s first cartoon that Walt eventually lost the rights to, so he created Mickey Mouse. The Disney company of today has reaequirred the rights to Oswald the Rabbit and wants to reintroduce him to the world. And given the times we live in Disney felt a great way to reintroduce Oswald was through a video game.

Oswald has never had a voice before since he was a silent cartoon star, but he will be played by FRANK WELKER! :wow: Warren had a big part in helping Frank sound like the Oswald he had in his head. The game doesn’t have any dialog, it’s mostly grunts and noises like that, you know like the Legend of Zelda games. The reason for that is because since Oswald originated from a silent cartoon they figured they wouldn’t have too much dialog. Even so Disney has more plans for Oswald if Epic Mickey does well and he will most likely be played by Frank Welker again. Warren was really happy about playing such a big role in finding Oswald’s voice for future projects.

During this panel I told everyone that Peter David is my favorite writer and PAD said “Thanks I’ll be sure to tell that to Peter David.” So I had to rephrase and tell PAD that he was my favorite writer. Then I asked Warren about Phantom Blot being in the game. I said that the Phantom Blot has been in cartoons like one episode of Duck Tales and a few episodes of House of Mouse but he originates from the comics. I wanted to know what made him decide to give the Phantom Blot such a big part in this game. Warren thought it was cool that I knew so much about the Phantom Blot heh heh! He said that it is a nod to his creator, Floyd Gottfredson who came up with the character in 1939. Warren loved the character but he thought that him being just a guy wearing a sheet was lame like he was in the old strip. So he wanted to revamp him as a giant ink stain. He’s hoping that his version of the Phantom Blot will eventually replace the one in the comics. Sounds good to me!

Speaking of Duck Tales, someone asked about the possibility of Warren working on a Duck Tales game or a Darkwing Duck game! Warren said he liked Duck Tales, but likes the original comics from Carl Barks more. As for Darkwing Duck he admitted that he has never watched the show! Everyone in the crowd yelled “BOOOOO!!!” Then at the end he added “Yet…” with a big smile go people laughed and clapped ha ha! Super nice guy who really knows a lot about Disney! Can’t wait to play Epic Mickey for the Wii when it drops on November 30! :clapdos:

And that wraps up Day 2. Day 3 coming right up!
