Oh man, that match had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Roddick is such an amazing player, to put up with those retarded questions. Even though he lost today, I feel that this tournament is a huge step forward in his career.
just watched espn first take and i am completely done watching this show forever.
skip and jamela(however the fuck you spell her name) both said they have no idea how pete, ivan, laver and mac all called fed the best ever. the main argument they presented was competition was better in the last 2 generations than this generation. i’ve had this argument before and i call complete bullshit on it. just because one player is dominating doesnt mean his competition sucks, it just means he is THAT much better than his competition. they also stated nadal is the best player in this generation because he has a winning record against fed, stating he has owned fed for the last 3 years easily. did they even see any of the matches? did they see fed beating nadal before the french on clay? did they also know fed is the only player who has beaten rafa more than 1x on clay? rafa has never “handed” roger his ass on any surface other than dirt, the aussie and wimbledon finals were all close and could have gone either way. i really dont think these guys watch tennis, they must watch highlights on sportscenter the night before to make their analysis. i can even make the argument that tiger woods is playing against less competition but hell no, he’s an american and must be glorified to make US look better. we need a global ESPN channel with some unbias perspectives on sports other than football, basketball and baseball.
theres a reason why people who KNOW tennis call him the best ever and a reason why sorry ass espn “analysts” who cover twitter messages harder than tennis matches.
they also dont know shit about any other sport either.
who still can’t admit the greatness that is roger is pretty much in denial. no one is taking away anything from the old stars but 15 grand slams should speak for itself.
Skip is just a general all around idiot. I saw one where he was arguing with Pat McEnroe about which feat was more difficult, beating Rafa on clay or beating Woods in sudden death. Obviously Skip believed beating Woods in sudden death was harder because Rafa lost in the 4th round at his 5th french open ever.
Also when you watch highlights they show like 3 points that don’t even summarize the match then they will say stuff like nice backhand passing shot when clearly the player just hit a volley winner.
Don’t worry about it Skip is wrong on about 80% of the things he says. He is probably the most hated sports analyst to ever live. There were fans who created a entire website that dedicated to how much he sucks and posted all the stupid shit he said. The list is quite long. :looney:
ive always hated american commentators when it came to tennis. shit gets real annoying real fast. tennis channel commentators arent bad but they only show up to a certain point. like up to semis or quarters, then it gets handed off to espn or one of the local networks.
skip is an idiot. the only reason hes still around is cause they think hes ‘entertaining’. and its not even that after youve seen him once.
Not sure if any of you cats are old enough to remember Michael Chang’s French Open win which happened 20 years ago. The guy was 17 years old and toppled the number 1 seed at the time Ivan Lendl. Chang physically was no match for Lendl, and it showed after Lendl took the first two sets. Chang switched gears and turned it into a psychological game, throwing off Lendl. Some of these tactics included moon lobs, an underhand serve, and standing at the T-Line on Lendl’s 2nd serve to break his concentration and cause him to double fault. Chang would go on to the finals and beat Steefan Edberg for the title.
I remember that was his only ever grand slam win, I think. This was a lil bit before my time before I started watching tennis. I got into watching tennis due to the rivalry between Sampras and Agassi, and Monica Seles and Graf.
