US DSi Launch Lineup:
? WarioWare?: Snapped! ? Using the built-in Nintendo DSi camera, this outrageous title puts players right at the center of fast-paced mini-games, challenging them to race the clock and get a peek at Wario’s photo album.
? Bird & Beans? ? Using an elastic tongue, players must scramble to collect falling beans. The harder a bean is to catch, the more points it’s worth.
? Brain Age? Express: Math ? In this math-focused edition of the popular Brain Age series, players can enjoy a mix of new and familiar training exercises. A new Themes mode also lets Nintendo DSi users experiment with images and voice recordings in fun, unusual ways.
? Master of Illusion? Express: Funny Face ? This game uses your Nintendo DSi as a prop in a card trick. Draw a face on the touch screen and astound your audience as the face tells them which playing card they picked.
? Art Style?: AQUIA? ? The newest addition to the eye-popping Art Style series, this mesmerizing underwater puzzle game challenges players to help a scuba diver reach the ocean floor by matching a series of colored blocks.
Kind of a weak starting lineup, hopefully we get some better stuff down the line.
Do the “advantages” of the DSi (namely, the camera) outweigh the fact that the standard DS/DS Lite models have backwards compatibility with GBA games? To me, the backwards compatibility would be a major selling point. I understand Nintendo is cutting costs and trying to make a more efficient machine, but does the addition of a camera, and subsequent camera games, win out over having access to hundreds of GBA games?
Its different for everyone. If you play more GBA games than DS games, than it would be seen as a big loss. For me, I rarely play my GBA games anymore (which I have a lot of), but even then, I still have my wife’s DS Lite to play them on, or my GBA SP which is somewhere in my house. I think to keep the cost down on this new hardware, it was a good decision. And as stated before, its not just the camera, the hardware is beefed up a little.
andrew, did you buy the best game on the DS? Game of the year 2007-2009?
R4
I’m not sure if it works with the DSi
EDIT: does not
anyway Chinatown wars is good. I don’t know how much hype it’s getting but it’s one of the best DS games I’ve played far. I really like how it uses the touch screen, without being annoying.
beat that when i was a kid… what else? i played of of the secret of mana games on ds and i thought it was too cheezy. i dont know if the other one is good. the last pokemon i played was for gamboy color. i wonder if its still rpg ish… ill try out the world ends and a gragon quest. never played one before i dont think
I hope that with the DSi, they allow full games to be saved on SDHC cards via DSi download service. One of the big reasons I enjoy the R4 is because I dont have to carry all my games with me when I travel. Don’t get me wrong here, I do buy DS games, but only the ones I really want to own, which is basically the Castlevania franchises and maybe some here and there.
Right now I’m on a phat DS and the old M3 GBA card (with the superkey or whatever in the DS slot). Need to decide whether a DSi is worth it, or just get a Lite instead.
